BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has called on Chinese women to make more contributions to the country.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark on Saturday when he met with the newly elected leaders of the All-China Women's Federation and some delegates to the 10th National Women's Congress.     Hu said Chinese women have made extraordinary contributions to the progress of the nation's civilization and economic growth, from the revolutionary wartime to the current socialist construction and reform.     The President said Chinese women deserved the title of "half of the sky", which means women could play an equal part as men in society.     Hu Jintao called on the Chinese women to make more contributions to the country's economic, social and cultural constructions and pursue scientific methods of education to cultivate their children.     Women should also strive to create a harmonious family environment to make contributions to the stability and harmony of the whole society, he said.     The President also urged female leaders and women's organizations at all levels to pay more attention to women's interests, and make all-out effort to serve them.     The Party organs at all levels should be fully aware of the great importance of women's roles and thoroughly carry out the country's policy of gender equality by creating more opportunities for women.

BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government will inject more funds for investment and improve investment structures to better cope with adverse global economic conditions, the State Council (Cabinet) decided at an executive meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday.     To achieve "steady and relative fast" economic growth and prevent "economic ups and downs" amid global and domestic economic challenges was on top of the country's agenda, said Wen.     The government on Sunday announced it would launch a stimulus package estimated at 4 trillion yuan (570 billion U.S. dollars) to be spent over the next two years to finance programs in 10 major areas, such as low-income housing, rural infrastructure, water, electricity, transport, the environment and technological innovation.     "The country should strengthen management of large-scale investment projects, conduct feasibility studies in an earnest manner and increase investment efficiencies and profits," said a statement from the meeting, in which provincial leaders and Cabinet ministers participated.     Wen said the stimulus package was crucial to tiding over the difficulties and maintaining long-term economic growth momentum.     He urged local governments to be "quick" and "effective" in carrying out these measures with "large-scale" investment programs launched to boost domestic demand.     The meeting participants called for more efforts to increase incomes and consumption capabilities, raising low-income earnings, promoting the "stable and healthy" development of the property sector and maintaining steady export growth.     The country should endeavor to enhance competitiveness, improve financial macro-management and facilitate the steady and healthy development of the stock market.     China announced on Sunday that it would adopt "active" fiscal and "moderately active" monetary policies to expand domestic demand and speed up construction of public facilities.     The meeting also decided to push forward a series of key reforms, including restructuring the value-added tax regime, which could cut the tax burden on enterprises by 120 billion yuan next year.

ANKARA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China attaches importance to its friendship and cooperation with Turkey, said China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin here Thursday.     China will enhance exchanges and mutual trust, consultations and coordination in international and regional affairs, and cooperation in economy, trade, culture, education and tourism with Turkey, said Jia at a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the Chinese side is satisfied with the development of bilateral relations and confident in their future friendship and cooperation. BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang urged more efficient and transparent use of government funds as the country faces rising fiscal expenditures while tackling the global financial crisis.     China should strengthen management and scrutiny of the fiscal budget and should reduce administrative expenses as the country faces relatively high fiscal pressure, Li said at a national fiscal conference on Tuesday.     The government must "firmly oppose extravagance and waste", he said.     China will have "a difficult fiscal year" in 2009 because of lower tax revenues and surging expenditures, Finance Minister Xie Xuren said on Monday.     China's 2008 fiscal revenue is expected to rise 19 percent to exceed 6 trillion yuan (about 857 billion U.S. dollars), said Xie.     That growth was slower than the 32.4-percent annual gain made in 2007.     The country's fiscal revenue increase started to slow down in the second half of 2008, said Xie. He attributed that change to economic deceleration, corporate profit decline and tax cuts made to boost growth.     China decided to carry out an "active fiscal policy" and "a moderately easy monetary policy" in 2009. It has unveiled a four trillion-yuan fiscal package to stimulate domestic demand.
