The FBI has taken custody of multiple suspicious packages sent to military locations in the Washington, DC area, a law enforcement official said Monday. The official said two of the packages were sent to Fort Belvoir and Fort McNair. At least one package, sent to the National Defense University at Fort McNair in Washington, DC, contained explosive material and was ultimately rendered safe. That package arrived at 8:30 a.m. ET and the building was evacuated immediately, according to Army spokesman Michael L. Howard."At 12:10 p.m., 52nd Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal from Fort Belvoir, VA, confirmed the package tested positive for black powder and residue," Howard said in a statement. "The X-ray conducted indicates suspected GPS and an expedient fuse were attached. The package was rendered safe. No injuries are reported."Scanning machines at the facilities detected the suspicious materials upon receipt and the packages are being examined at the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, the law enforcement official said. The National Defense University at Fort McNair was cleared for re-entry after K-9 sweep and personnel returned to the building by 1:15 pm ET.Another Army spokesman confirmed a suspicious package incident at Fort Belvoir and said that package has been rendered safe. 1296

The Collective Brewing project has teamed up with Lone Star Taps and Caps in Fort Worth, Texas to turn Easter's most polarizing treat—Marshmallow Peeps—into a craft beer. They plan to tap the concoction Friday, March 30 at 6 p.m. at the Taproom in Fort Worth, and they're calling the collaboration "Peep this Collab."On the website, the taste is described as tart and lemon-y and the look is described as a glitter bomb with fabulous sparkle. However, Ryan Deyo, Collective Brewing's head brewer and co-founder said drinkers could expect a "lightly tart" and marshmallow-y" taste from the beer on guidelive.Regardless of the flavor, Deyo said they mashed 30 boxes of peeps into a beer brewed with sour ale, vanilla and butterfly pea flowers (yes, actual flowers). If that doesn't sound delicious already, the beer will have purple tint thanks to the pea flowers and they will have edible glitter to up the sparkle content. This whole idea is a part of Deyo's passion to make beer for more fun."I've been on a kick to assert beer should be a fun thing," Deyo told guidelive. "We make a beer with ramen noodles, so Peeps isn't really a stretch."If Ramen Noodle beer sound just as good as peep beer, you're in luck, but neither of those flavors top the wackiest ever made by craft brewers. Flavors like Rocky Mountain Oyster, Oyster, Coconut Curry and Pizza beer have turned heads in the past.  1439

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is warning holiday shoppers to be aware of increasingly aggressive and unorthodox scams designed to steal money and personal information.Online shopping scamsIf a deal looks too good to be true, officials say it probably is.FBI Pittsburgh said Monday that consumers should steer clear of unfamiliar websites that offer unrealistic discounts on brand name merchandise. Scammers frequently prey on holiday bargain hunters by advertising “one-day only” promotions from recognized brands.“Without a skeptical eye, consumers may end up paying for an item, giving away personal information, and receive nothing in return except a compromised identity,” the FBI wrote in a press release.Payment red flagsThe FBI says to be cautious of sellers and websites that demand payment solely through gift cards.“Scammers sometimes encourage shoppers to conduct wire transfers, allowing criminals to quickly receive illicit funds,” the bureau wrote. It’s best to use credit cards, because they provide several layers of security against fraud and are typically the safest way to conduct online shopping.Charity scamsWhile others are focused on giving during the holiday season, others are ready to take advantage of that generosity.“Charity-related frauds increase during the holidays as individuals seek to donate money to those less fortunate,” said the FBI.Criminals have been known to use phone calls, email campaigns, and fake websites to solicit on behalf of fraudulent charities. These scammers target people who want to donate to charity, then hoard their well-intentioned donations while those most in need never see a dime.FBI tips to avoid holiday fraud schemes:Before shopping online, secure all financial accounts with strong passwords or passphrases. Additionally, the FBI recommends using different passwords for each financial account.Check bank and credit card statements routinely, including after making online purchases and in the weeks following the holiday season.Never give personal information— such as your date of birth, Social Security number, or billing addresses— to anyone you do not know.Be wary of promotions and giveaways that request your personal information.Prior to donating to any charity, verify that they have a valid Taxpayer Identification number by visiting their website or calling the charity directly. 2373

The death toll from the ongoing Camp Fire near Paradise, California continues to grow as authorities found another eight bodies, increasing the number of confirmed dead to 58. The Camp Fire is the largest single wildfire in California history, now doubling the death toll of second-deadliest fire in California history. The number of confirmed destroyed structures also has increased to more than 10,000. The death toll could continue to rise as the Butte County Sheriff's Office said that nearly 100 people remain missing. Most of the missing are elderly residents of Paradise.  One bit of good news is that officials are starting to get the fire under containment. The Camp Fire scorched 138,000 acres and is now 35 percent contained. Meanwhile, authorities continue to battle a massive blaze in Southern California. The cougar spotted traveling through Brookfield, Wisconsin last week was caught on video on someone's front porch.Surveillance video shared with Scripps station TMJ4 in Milwaukee by Dan and Bridget Guerndt shows the cougar coming out from trees. The cougar goes up the residents' driveway and puts its paws on the front window. The footage was captured at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 18.On Saturday, a Brookfield resident called the Department of Natural Resources when they saw a cougar lying in their backyard, under a pine tree.Though they confirmed the animal was a cougar, officers were unable to neutralize it because of the surrounding homes and thick brush.DNR agents went back to the scene on Sunday morning, but the cougar was gone. The fifty pounds and approximately 1-year-old cougar was tracked, but the trail was lost.Experts believe this cougar was the same one that was spotted in Washington County two weeks ago. 967
