GARDEN GROVE (AP/CNS) - Mexican authorities say a United States couple missing for a week in Tijuana have been found buried on the property of one of their homes in Tijuana.Baja California state prosecutor Hirán Sánchez said Friday that the bodies of María Teresa López and Jesús Rubén López were discovered with the help of cadaver dogs. Authorities said they have arrested and charged the couple's son-in-law. Officials say the preliminary investigation suggests the motive was a monetary dispute over rent payments. The couple had crossed the border to collect rent payments for apartments they own in Tijuana."I don't have confirmation these are our victims,'' Garden Grove Police Department Lt. Carl Whitney said. HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii's governor says that starting Oct. 15, travelers arriving from out of state may bypass a 14-day quarantine requirement if they test negative for COVID-19.Travelers will have to take the test within 72 hours before their flight arrives in the islands.The governor, David Ige, says drug store operator CVS and healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente will conduct the tests as part of an agreement with the state.Travelers will need to be able to show proof of their negative test results from a CLIA certified laboratory. Those who can’t will be required to quarantine for two weeks or until they can provide proof of their test results.Ige said in a press release that the new pre-travel testing program “is an important step toward reviving our economy while continuing to protect public health.”Earlier this year, Hawaii had plans to start a pre-travel testing program on Aug. 1 but had to postpone them as COVID-19 cases spiked on the U.S. mainland and in Hawaii. HAWTHORNE (CNS) - A Hawthorne police officer was wounded and a person has been arrested in connection with an officer-involved shooting this morning.Officers were dispatched about 9:20 a.m. to the 14400 block of Aviation Boulevard, where the shooting occurred, according to a watch commander at the Hawthorne Police Department.The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was called about 9:30 a.m. to assist in the investigation, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau. Paramedics rushed the wounded officer to an area hospital, and a person has been detained in connection with the shooting, he said.It was unclear if the person being detained was the shooter, he said. A witness at the scene told reporters he saw the suspect pull his gun out and heard ``tons of gunfire.''Authorities urged the public to avoid the area of Rosecrans and Aviation. 863

A grandfather.“He was also a chef,” Yolanda Green-Samuel added recalling fond memories of her brother, Eugene Green, who was killed four years ago in a hit-and-run incident while he was on a bicycle. She still recalls a conversation she had with local police in Miami Gardens, Florida, one that is seared into her memory.“[Police said] ‘We have no leads and no answers.’ And at that point I said to him ‘that’s unacceptable.'"”I was engulfed in pain,” Green-Samuel added.But she took that pain and channeled it for good. She’s created an organization to help raise awareness and try to decrease the problem of hit-and-run drivers. She says few people know how much more severe the penalties are when you flee the scene. Prison time for suspects who are caught is becoming more and more common. Samuel-Green wants people to know that more often than not the crash is an accident.It highlights an issue that only seems to be getting worse, according to statistics. In 2016—the latest year for which complete data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration exists—there were more hit-and-run fatalities than there have been in the 40-plus years that NHTSA has been keeping track. There were 2,049 people killed as a result of a hit-and-run 2016. Significant in those numbers: 70% of those deaths were to pedestrians or bicyclists. Jacob Nelson is a researcher with AAA, which put out a study highlighting the new numbers. He says one of the reasons for the uptick in pedestrian and cyclist deaths could be the simple fact that there are more pedestrians and cyclists on city streets.“There’s been a huge push from the public health community to get more people outside walking and biking given all the health benefits to doing that,” Nelson said. But he cautions that cities also need to start looking at putting more barriers between non-motorists and vehicle traffic lanes.The other factor that could be playing a part: distracted driving.“That doesn’t matter whether you are a motorist, pedestrian, or a cyclist. You need to pay attention to what’s around you. A lot of these crashes could be prevented in the first place,” Nelson said.And he joins Green-Samuel in urging any motorist involved in a crash to stay put.“The element of people leaving the scene of a crash is not only illegal, but motorists need to realize that staying on the scene of a crash is the right thing to do,” Nelson said. “It can help prevent people from being killed and it can lessen the severity of the injuries people sustain if we make sure people get medical care in that first hour.”Green-Samuel also hopes that through her organization, Just an Accident: Stop Hit-and-Runs, she hopes more people will become aware of the immense power people hold in their hands when driving a vehicle.“I just don't think people realize the responsibly they take when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle," she said. 2984

Glen “Big Baby” Davis, former NBA player best known for his role on the 2008 championship Boston Celtics, was arrested at a Hampton Inn in Aberdeen, Maryland last month.According to court records, the hotel owner smelled marijuana coming from Davis' room on February 7th.When the owner knocked on room 208, someone inside the room told him to “F--- off!”Aberdeen police then responded to the hotel and Davis gave signed consent to search his room"They recovered 126 grams of marijuana,” said Aberdeen Police Lieutenant William Reiber, “In addition to that there was a brief case that contained ,164 of U.S. currency along with a ledger that contained language which is consistent with someone involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics."The ledger was of names of people of who owed money along with baggies for individual packaging of a quarter pound of marijuana.The strains were called "Sour D" and "Berry," all from a Los Angeles wholesaler court records show Davis told police he was in business with.It all resulted Davis’ arrest followed by an indictment weeks later on seven counts of drug possession and distribution.Aberdeen Police say it was during the booking process when it became apparent who Davis is in the sports world.He told officers he was in Harford County, Maryland visiting family."There was a statement that was made about the purpose of the trip but at the end of the day we don't know exactly,” Lt.
