Police say a man in Australia fought off a deadly snake that was in his vehicle while he drove on a highway.In a press release, police in Queensland, Australia said a 27-year-old Gladstone man identified as "Jimmy" was driving down Dawson Highway back in June at 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour when he noticed a highly venomous eastern brown snake, which is one of the world's deadliest snakes, near his legs.The incident happened near the town of Calliope.“I’m driving along at 100, and I just started to brake,” Jimmy said in the news release. “…And the more I moved my legs… it just started to wrap around me. Its head just started striking at the (driver’s seat) chair, between my legs.”Jimmy said in the news release that he fought the snake off with his seatbelt and a knife while attempting to stop his car.Police were able to capture the moment on body cameras, which they posted to their Facebook page. 923

(KGTV) — Two people escape unscathed after making an emergency landing at Brown Field Tuesday.The aircraft was forced to the ground around 4:30 p.m., landing in a grassy area at the airfield. PALM CITY, Fla. -- A new dog training facility is almost complete in Florida. Its goal is to rescue pups and turn them into service dogs for veterans who need them now even more than ever during a pandemic.Veteran Suhir Shrestha was born in Nepal and moved to the U.S. He was so thankful for his life here that he decided to enlist in the military as a way to give back, at 39 years old."I deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 and there, obviously, it was a war zone," he said.Shrestha said when he returned, he suffered from PTSD, depression and anxiety."I had a lot of suicidal thoughts and a lot of negative thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, what have you," he said. "It was very difficult to lead a life."It's a life that has recently take on new meaning with Indie by his side."It has been a tremendous life-changer for me," he said. "Before, I used to be not able to go outside, be nervous of a crowd and just have negative thoughts in me."Indie was adopted from the shelter-to-service dog program through Furry Friends Adoption Clinic and Ranch."Gives me extra confidence to go outside because I have him," Shrestha said."These dogs are coming from high-kill shelters in many cases," said Pat Deshong, the president of Furry Friends Adoption Clinic and Ranch. "We don't necessarily take them to be service dogs, but we take them because they are high energy."The group is building a new training center in Palm City and is weeks away from completion. It's all in an effort to bring veterans from across the country to Florida to adopt."These veterans are so deserving of these dogs," Deshong said. "We don't automatically pick which dog is right for the veteran. PHOENIX, Ariz. -- A 17-year-old is in custody after reportedly firing a rifle at Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers Thursday morning in Phoenix, and authorities are searching for a second suspect in connection with the incident.According to DPS Captain Jesse Galvez, on Thursday morning, two uniformed troopers were in their vehicle near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street when suspects in a vehicle passed and stopped nearby.The driver honked the horn as the teen got out and started firing an assault rifle, according to DPS.The troopers were able to exit their vehicle and return fire. At that point, the driver reportedly sped off, leaving the teen behind. He was then taken into custody. 706

"He not only found it. He also called 911 and made sure we got our jewelry back."Joe and his wife Elif Fitzgerald attended an annual Denim and Diamonds charity event for Hands Across the Bay Saturday night. That's why Elif Fitzgerald had expensive pieces of jewelry with her.The Fitzgeralds were one of the sponsors for the event, and they had a lot to pack up at the end of the night. Joe Fitzgerald says he put most of the luggage in the back of his trunk, including his wife's luggage, with the jewelry in it."On my way home the back hatch opened and the bag fell out near West Bay Dr. and Indian Rocks Rd." he said.The Fitzgeralds had no idea the bag was gone, "until I looked at my phone."Elif Fitzgerald said she had dozens of missed calls and text messages telling her someone found their bag and the jewelry in it."I was completely shocked that they returned it," she said. "I have valuable jewelry.
