Fox News host Sean Hannity allegedly received help from the US Department for Housing and Urban Development to carry out multimillion dollar real estate deals, according to a report by The Guardian.The Guardian reported Sunday that Hannity is linked to a web of shell companies that spent at least million buying more than 870 homes across seven states over the past 10 years. The newspaper said it reviewed thousands of pages of public records to piece together Hannity's alleged property portfolio.The Fox News host bought two apartment complexes in Georgia in 2014 for .7 million, according to The Guardian. It reported that HUD helped him get mortgages worth .9 million to fund the purchases by insuring the loans under a National Housing Act program.Hannity didn't mention this link to the department when he interviewed HUD Secretary Ben Carson on Fox News in June 2017.The Guardian reported that some of the properties Hannity acquired were purchased "after banks foreclosed on their previous owners for defaulting on mortgages." The purchases were spread across states including Alabama and New York, according to the report."Hannity is the hidden owner behind some of the shell companies and his attorney did not dispute that he owns all of them," the Guardian reported. The newspaper said those shell companies are limited liability companies, which are "popular among well-known figures such as Hannity who wish to keep their business arrangements private."In an email to The Guardian, Hannity real estate attorney Christopher Reeves said the transactions were highly confidential and said, "most people prefer to keep their legal and personal financial issues private. Mr Hannity is no different." Former NFL player Jonathon Martin has been taken into custody by Los Angeles police after appearing to post a threatening Instagram story that caused a school to go into lockdown."The individual we believe responsible for the social media post in question has been detained and our investigation is ongoing," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to ESPN.On Friday, an Instagram account appearing to belong to Martin posted a story that included a photo of a long gun and ammunition. The photo included the caption "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge." Former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who was previously fired by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, announced on Wednesday that he intends to run against Emanuel to be the city's mayor.The election will be held in February 2019. McCarthy was fired in December 2015 after it took the department 14 months to release video of the death of Laquan McDonald, who was an unarmed black 17-year-old shot and killed by Chicago Officer Jason Van Dyke. It was determined that Van Dyke had shot McDonald 16 times, leading to protests in Chicago. The case led the City of Chicago to offer a million settlement to the McDonald family, the Chicago Tribune reported. Van Dyke, who has since been charged with homicide, is still awaiting trial. McCarthy told the Tribune that he is running as a "conservative Democrat." “Between the taxes, our economy, the schools and the crime rate here, we’re a laughingstock in America,” McCarthy told the Tribune. “The prevailing thought about Chicago is we’re on our way down in all those areas, and they all infect each other, and nobody seems to get that. It’s almost like a ‘Wake up, Chicago’ moment.”McCarthy is going up against a relatively popular mayor. According to a poll by Anzalone Liszt Grove Research, Emanuel's approval rating as of January was 51 percent, compared to 40 percent who disapproved. Florida State University held a vigil Sunday night for the two women fatally shot at a Tallahassee yoga studio Friday as investigators try to establish why the alleged gunman opened fire.Scott Paul Beierle, 40, posed as a customer when he walked into Hot Yoga Tallahassee on Friday evening and fired a handgun without warning, police said.The yoga students fought back, police said, but two women were killed and five people were wounded. The gunman had fatally shot himself by the time officers arrived.Tallahassee yogis as well as the health care and college communities are mourning the victims: Maura Binkley, 21, and Nancy Van Vessem, 61.On Sunday evening, FSU students and faculty came together for a vigil honoring Van Vessem -- a faculty member -- and Binkley, a student.The crowd gathered on Langford Green on Sunday evening and held up battery-powered tea candles that flickered under an overcast sky as a small choir sang, "Hymn to the Garnet and Gold.""Our hearts are broken as we gather to mourn the loss of two members of our Florida State University family and offer prayers for those who were injured and affected by this horrific attack.
