TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Cal Fire firefighters based in San Diego were injured after the engine they were riding in flipped over, ABC30 reports. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. near Avenue 56 and Road 250 in rural Tulare County, the station reports. The driver of the engine reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to flip over and injuring four firefighters. Three firefighters were injured and taken to the hospital following the rollover. Cal Fire says two of the firefighters have since been released while the third will remain in the hospital overnight for observation. The crew is based in San Diego and were heading home from battling the Creek Fire when the crash took place. 719

TULSA, Okla. — Several Tulsans are outraged after Spanish-speaking families were turned away during a holiday toy registration at Loaves and Fishes ministry."My children are Hispanic. We speak predominantly Spanish at home, so for someone to be turned away for their language it really offended me," said Megan Aviles, who witnessed the incident. It was Tuesday when Aviles stood in line with her two daughters waiting to register for the ministry's annual toy giveaway. She noticed several Hispanic women in front were being denied access to the registration because they didn't speak English."I went forward to try and assist and was like 'look, I can translate for these women. I'm bilingual,' " said Aviles.However, the pastor and executive director of the organization admitted he didn't allow her or anyone else to translate for the families."The reason I didn't use one of our guests or a family member or even a child is my experience with interpreters is they don't necessarily interpret what I say," said pastor Al Poncel.He said he would feel more comfortable having interpreters he knows, so nothing is lost in translation. Poncel said this is the first time that he has ran into a language issue at the ministry after years of being with the organization, but still he felt he made a mistake by turning away the families just because he didn't have the staff to help with the high demand."I didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings. I didn't want to offend anybody. I want to help as many people as I can," said Poncel.He said he is looking at ways to improve and be more inclusive of the needs of the community, so he is already looking at partnering with other local ministries and organizations to help interpret in the future."The 18 and 19 is going to be big days of our Christmas outreach. I'm going to make sure I have an interpreter here to be able to properly interpret, have the proper forms because I'm required by the food bank of USDA to fill out specific form," said Poncel.Loaves and Fishes' mission is to "alleviate suffering of impoverished families by offering charitable assistance."They have served about 20,000 families since January, according to Poncel. 2230

TUCSON, Ariz. — A trip to Little Anthony’s Diner is a trip back in time. This family-owned restaurant has been serving up tasty treats, with a side of nostalgia, for the past 43 years.“I grew up loving it. My family grew up loving it. It’s a Tucson staple,” said Heather Stricker, a manager at the restaurant and its attached theater, The Gaslight Theater.However, COVID-19 threatened to put this neighborhood treasure out of business. “Right from the start, it impacted us so huge that it was almost devastating,” said Stricker. “Every day you wake up and you see the news: another restaurant or three restaurants closing in our area. It's scary.”A lot of business was lost after months of restrictions, so Stricker knew she’d have to get creative to save the place special to her and so many others.“I think that if we hadn't pivoted, we would have been in real trouble and very quickly,” said Stricker.So, they took a page from history, hoping it would protect the legacy they’ve built, especially through the winter months ahead. Little Anthony’s revived the carhop in hopes of revving up their business.“You pull up into our parking lot, and we have a server who is masked and gloved come out, take your order and deliver your food right to the car,” said Stricker.It’s a safe way to keep customers coming in without stepping into the restaurant.“It’s really nice that we can actually do this without so much worry about what might happen while we're out,” said customer Jen DeCicco. “We're right beside our own car, but yet we have our own space we can be together and enjoy this concert we’ve been dying to see.”The concerts are just one more way the restaurant is hoping to keep their drive-in full while keeping people safely distanced.When it gets colder and sitting outside is no longer an option, the live music plays through your car.“There's always going to be an option no matter how cold it gets,” said Stricker. “And we've had some cold nights, and we made it through, and everybody had a great time. So, we're excited. We're excited to keep going."The customers are excited for a brief escape from a year of loneliness."Having all these people around us, it feels a little bit like a touch of normalcy,” said Jen DeCicco.“I have never done anything like this before. I think it's really cool,” said Jude DeCicco.For regular diners and car enthusiasts Sue and Robert Ellison, this new experience brings their favorite era back to life.“I would come to places like this with my parents. I remember me and my sister sitting in the back seat and ordering,” said Robert Ellison. “It's a nice flashback to a fun time.”“For me, it's fun to experience something I never lived through before,” said Sue Ellison.Because in this time, where the future is so uncertain, looking back could just be the way to move forward.“We’ve decided we're not going to quit. We're not going to give up,” said Stricker. “No matter how long this takes, we are in it for the long haul. Two Kansas girls whose disappearance from a Kansas home triggered a multi-state Amber Alert on Saturday were found safe in Oklahoma.The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Saturday night that it has recovered the girls and taken their father, 40-year-old Donny Jackson of Leavenworth, Kansas, into custody.Earlier on Saturday, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that Jackson may have been involved in the homicides of two other children, who were found dead at the home from where the girls had been abducted.The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at a home around 1 p.m. local time Saturday, where deputies located two deceased juvenile males and discovered two young girls were missing.It's unknown exactly when the double homicide or the abduction occurred.
