After former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s stay in the hospital, Christie told the New York Times on Thursday he was “wrong” not to wear a mask inside the White House before becoming infected with the coronavirus.Christie, President Donald Trump, and a number of others who had contact with Trump and his staff, tested positive for the coronavirus several weeks ago. Christie spent nearly a week in the hospital, and he told the New York Times he was in the intensive care unit.Christie, who has since been released from the hospital and is recovering, expressed regret for his actions inside of the White House. Christie was among a group of GOP advisers helping Trump with preparing for the Sept. 30 debate.“I believed when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that I and many others underwent every day,” Christie said in the statement to the New York Times. “I was wrong. I was wrong not to wear a mask at the Amy Coney Barrett announcement and I was wrong not to wear a mask at my multiple debate prep sessions with the president and the rest of the team."Christie said that the public should take the virus seriously.“I hope that my experience shows my fellow citizens that you should follow CDC guidelines in public no matter where you are and wear a mask to protect yourself and others,” he told the Times.Kellyanne Conway, who also was on Trump’s debate prep team, tested positive for the coronavirus.A contingent of others who attended Barrett’s nomination ceremony tested positive for the virus, including three US senators, Notre Dame President John Jenkins, and an unnamed White House journalist. The virus also reached others in the presidential family, with both first lady Melania Trump and son Barron Trump testing positive. Other aides, including Kayleigh McEnany, Hope Hicks, and Stephen Miller, also confirmed they tested positive for the virus. While Christie came to terms with the seriousness of his infection, Trump has largely brushed off his ailment. Trump was rushed to the hospital by Marine One on October 2, and he stayed there for nearly 72 hours. Presidential physician Dr. Sean Conley released multiple statements downplaying Trump’s prognosis, only for Conley to later reveal more serious details of Trump’s diagnosis. It was learned in the days following Trump’s positive coronavirus test that he ran a significantly high fever and needed supplemental oxygen.Following his 10-day isolation period, Trump immediately held a public event at the White House, inviting hundreds of people who sat shoulder to shoulder, many of whom without masks. He then has been holding rallies on a daily basis since Monday.Dr. Anthony Fauci said that holding such events is risky."I think the — the data speaks for themselves," Fauci to CBS News about wearing masks. "We had a super-spreader event in the White House and it was in a situation where people were crowded together and were not wearing masks. So the data speak for themselves." 3014

After fighting off insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mike Cutone returned back to the streets of Springfield, Massachusetts, only to discover that the situation wasn’t much better at home.During the late 2000s, it wasn’t out of the normal to see gang members openly riding up and down the community’s streets, openly brandishing assault rifles. The crime problem had gotten so bad that heroin was being sold in broad daylight, just blocks away from the state police barracks, where Cutone was stationed as an officer.“The citizens didn’t feel safe, people felt like prisoners in their own homes,” Cutone recalled of those years.Having recently returned from a counter insurgency tour overseas, Cutone could see that the way the crime ridden neighborhoods were being policed wasn’t working. So, he came up with a plan, drawn directly from his experience as a Green Beret. The idea was called Counter Criminal Continuum Policing or C3. Cutone partnered with Springfield police to create the new concept that focused on gaining the trust of the community instead of just arresting criminals. For the past 12 years, community leaders, city police, state police, residents and business owners have met once a week as part of the C3 program. From getting to know local business owners, to knocking on doors, the program’s foundation is rooted in winning over the trust of the community in an effort to address crime. And it’s working.“You aren’t going to arrest your way out of crime. We weren’t looking at crime through the lens of the people that live there. It starts with law enforcement understanding what these communities are going through,” Cutone said.As the nation currently struggles with police reform, Cutone sees this as a model other city could emulate.“Because of the trust factor, we built legitimacy with the community and meeting with them on a weekly basis, we want to hear what they have to say and solve these problems in their communities. Right now, we’re not hearing about partnership we’re hearing about division, division never wins there has to be a partnership,” he added.Although parts of the city are still dealing with crime, the areas infiltrated by the C3 program are almost unrecognizable. On streets where gang members once dealt drugs in broad daylight, neighbors’ biggest complaints are now typically about illegal dumping. And community leaders can see the long-term impacts the program is having.“We can see businesses are coming back and young people can get a job. Now we look at the city as being one neighborhood because we’re all working together for the same cause,” said Neil Boyd, a local Bishop in the area. 2657

Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley was active on social media on Thursday looking for help locating her and husband's niece Alaina Housley who was presumably at the California bar where a gunman killed 12 before taking his own life. Late Thursday morning, the couple confirmed to NBC News that Alaina Housley was among the 12 killed. "Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks," the couple said in a joint statement to NBC. "Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time."Mowry-Housley's social media thread hours after the late-night shooting shows the frantic nature of trying to gather information of loved ones after mass shootings. The shooting took place before midnight late Wednesday night, and Mowry-Housley's Instagram post came more than nine hours later. Mowry-Housley's sister Tia Mowry was also active on social media trying to gather information. "Alaina Housely we are praying," Tia Mowry wrote in Instagram Thursday morning. "We love u! If you know anything or any information please let us know. We love you! #borderline"Earlier on Thursday morning, Alaina Housley's roommate had posted a plea on Twitter trying to find information on her roommate. Mowry-Housley responded to her niece's roommate and went to Twitter looking for any information she could gather on her niece. Mowry-Housley's husband Adam Housley then went to a California hospital in search of their niece. The Los Angeles Times reported that he was turned away by guards at the hospital. “My gut is saying she’s inside the bar, dead. I’m hoping I’m wrong,” he told the LA Times. He added that his niece's Apple Watch and iPhone locators were tracked to the bar's dance floor. The Los Angeles Times reported that Alaina Housley was 18 years old and a freshman at Pepperdine University. Pepperdine confirmed that 16 of its students were at the bar at the time of the shooting, and there was one unaccounted for as of late Wednesday morning.  2335
