The City of San Diego had a system in place to warn-water meter readers of inaccurate or questionable reads on manually read meters.But somehow more than 300 residents in four neighborhoods - Rancho Bernardo, Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, and Carmel Valley - were still overcharged by an average 0 on recent bills. Their meters were all the manually read type.Meanwhile, residents from Webster to Normal Heights to La Jolla are still questioning the validity of mysteriously high bills. "At this point I don't trust the government. Who is overseeing these departments?" Carmel Valley resident Denise Hornby said in a recent interview over her ,800 water bill. The city has more than 250,000 water meters that need to be read manually. Workers use a handheld electronic device to enter the readings, and get a warning if the numbers don't fall inline with that meter's use from the last billing cycle, said Steven Broyles, a city meter reader of about 18 years. "Based on the pervious use 60 days ago, it was inline," Broyles said after measuring a home in Rancho Bernardo. "So it didn't throw me a failed audit."Workers, however, are able to override the warning and enter the reading.If that happens, the city says the meter's data gets kicked into the city's quality assurance process - a process that could have uncovered the pattern of errors in those four neighborhoods. The city terminated the employee who made the errors that lead to the 300 erroneous bills. A city spokesman, however, declined to comment on whether the system lead to the discovery. The city auditory, meanwhile, is continuing a top-down probe into the water billing department. Last year, consumers spent .4 billion.Adobe projected consumers to spend .7 billion this year on Cyber Monday in its early holiday spending forecast.On Cyber Monday, Adobe said the number of orders picked up curbside was up 30% from a year ago, as consumers shopped safely during the pandemic.Many people also used their smartphones to avoid crowds at brick and mortar during the pandemic. One of the concerns is that vaccines weaken a baby's immune system against other diseases, but new findings should ease that fear           For many little ones, routine vaccinations are a rite of passage.  And sometimes, there can be a lot of them."Some parents are concerned that kids get too many vaccines in too short of a time," says Dr. Jason Glanz with the Kaiser Permanente Colorado Institute for Health Research. "So by the age of two children receive up to 10 vaccines and 26 shots and so that is a lot of shots."That's why Dr. Glanz and his team set out to see if getting that many vaccines was harmful."Thankfully our study show that it wasn't harmful," Dr. Glanz says.Dr. Glanz says many parents are concerned vaccines could overload their child's immune system and increase their risk of getting an infection in the future.The NOW's Kumasi Aaron asked Dr. Glanz, "Is there such thing as overloading an infant with vaccines?" "We did not see a list of that," Dr. Glanz replied. "We saw no evidence that receiving all the vaccines and receiving them on time in anyway damaged the child's immune system."The study looked at infants two years after they got those vaccines, and found they weren't likely to be more susceptible to other infections not targeted by those vaccines.Dr. Glanz says, "I'm hoping he provides some reassurance that these vaccines are safe and the benefits greatly outweigh the risks and that if they have any concerns that they should talk about it with the doctors." 1658
