LITTLETON, Colo. — In one Colorado neighborhood, life is quiet, which makes what happened last Sunday hard to understand for many residents.A man named Scott Smith was arrested after claiming that his wife, Kanokwan Smith, tried to kill him with a butcher knife in their Littleton home. In an affidavit detailing the incident, he said he had no choice but to shoot and kill her. As of Sunday evening, Scott had not been charged in connection to the case and he is not in custody.For neighbor Dominique Naylor, who has known Kanokwan for more than a decade, the pain is unbearable. She said she was a hard worker and juggled three jobs."She’ll never be able to wrap her arms around her little girl again and he shouldn’t have that right," Naylor said. "He shouldn’t be out and he shouldn’t be free."She said there's not a question in her mind that Scott killed her, and other neighbors and friends agree, adding that Scott "wasn't the kind of person you ever wanted to see (Kanokwan) with."She said anybody who knew her friend knows she wouldn't hurt a fly."It just seems so unfair to live in a world that doesn’t have her in it because she’s just so kind and worked so hard and how could anyone hurt her?" LAS VEGAS — Neighbors in the southwest part of Las Vegas are fed up over the wild scenes playing out in their area which have included flame throwers, rocket launchers, strippers and buses full of people as the Strip's night and day clubs remain closed.For weeks, Las Vegas police have been dealing with a sharp rise in complaints regarding "party houses," some of which have been the scenes for shootings and murders.Neighbors near one home on Sunset Road and Jones Boulevard say they are living next to a nightmare."It's a party going madhouse out here," Tony Grant said.Grant and his wife Nanette, who is battling breast cancer, say the for past six months, people have been arriving to their neighborhood by bus, car and rideshares.Videos shows dozens, if not hundreds, of people at the home, which at times includes laser light shows, loud music and nearly-naked women.Online, the venue is billed as a day and nightclub available for gatherings and parties for ,500 a day."There's fire-based entertainment, including flamethrowers, and rocket launchers that are being set off within obviously 10- to 15-feet of 50-foot pine trees and homes," Hadas Grant said.Online records show Las Vegas police have taken more than a half dozen reports for "disturbing the peace" in the 5800 block of Patrick Lane since April 2020.Records obtained by Clark County show authorities have placed administrative actions on the home, and fines have totaled 0.The Grants say the gatherings have continued."On the day the citation was placed on the door, that Tuesday night was one of the largest gatherings or events that they've ever had, they're laughing in the face of code enforcement," Tony Grant said.Interview requests to the group promoting the gatherings were not returned. Since the school year has started back up, many now have to juggle work while overseeing at-home learning.Michelle Martel, a professor and the director of clinical training for the University of Kentucky’s psychology department, says it’s OK for parents to feel overwhelmed and admit they need help at times.“If you have family or close friends in the area that could provide support, that’s a great place to start,” said Martel.Beyond that, if you haven’t already, Martel suggests reaching out to your employer to see how your job can be adjusted to fit into a new work-life balance.“Maybe it involves little different hours. Maybe it involves a little bit more flexibility,” she said. “I think presenting your boss with that idea, you know just, ‘Hey, I was thinking this might make things a little bit easier. Then I can get done what I need to get done, but also manage my kids and it might take the stress off everyone.’ I think most bosses really right now would welcome that.”Martel also says self-care is not selfish and that it’s important for parents to take moments for themselves during this challenging time.“Doing those things and not feeling bad about it, like ‘Oh, there’s a million things you could be doing right now,’ but maybe you just need to go take a hot bath or you need to just go out and take a walk or do something for you. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two men were arrested Monday after the San Diego Sheriff’s Department says they reportedly beat a man with a metal pipe in Lemon Grove. Deputies say they received a call about a man bleeding in the street around 10:43 a.m. Monday at the 7200 block of Pacific Avenue. After arriving, police found the 43-year-old mad lying on the sidewalk with a head wound. Witnesses told deputies four men in a light-blue vehicle chased the victim to the location and beat him with a “long stick, and a metal pipe.”After contacting a group of men associated with the vehicle, a 25-year-old man identified as Terrell Millard admitted to the assault. Deputies say he was booked into jail. A 15-year-old also admitted to the assault. Deputies say he was charged and released. 795

(KGTV) – After being closed by the city in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the La Mesa attraction known as the “secret stairs” was reopened to the public.The city announced Wednesday that the popular destination near Windsor Drive is open with specific social distancing guidelines in place.The stairs, widely used as a community trail or exercise route, was shut down on March 24 due to visitors not following social distancing rules.Despite the closure, some residents told the city that warning signs noting guidelines were being ignored.With the reopening, city officials are asking visitors to know the following before going to the stairs:WEAR A MASK: Everyone should wear a mask covering their face at all times while in this public space.MAINTAIN DISTANCE: Keep physical distance of 6 feet between individuals from different households and prevent crowding.PLAN AHEAD: Visit at times or days that are less crowded.KNOW WHEN TO STAY HOME: Those with underlying medical conditions should avoid public spaces when others are present.
