COPENHAGEN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Thursday that the Copenhagen climate talks have reached the decisive moment and all parties should focus on consensus in a future-oriented manner and seek common grounds while shelving differences so as to bring hope to the world people.     Wen made the remarks when he met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on the sidelines of the UN-led talks being held here.     Wen said many developed countries have tabled quantified emission reduction targets while some developing countries have also set up voluntary goals in curbing emissions, which represents new progress in international cooperation in tackling climate change. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- An Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) could make the Chinese mainland and Taiwan complement each other and achieve the best win-win results, Yao Jian, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), said here Monday.     "The ECFA could enhance the well-being of the people across the Taiwan Straits," Yao said in a statement on the ministry's website.     He added that with increasingly strengthened cross-Straits economic cooperation, the signing of the ECFA should be in line with the development of the cross-Straits relationship and the characteristics of the mainland-Taiwan economic and trade cooperation.     The ECFA would help reduce trade barriers gradually and bring positive effects to the economies, trade and most industries across the Straits, according to a latest research report completed by the academy of international trade and economic cooperation under the MOC.     Official figures revealed that the combined cross-Straits trade volume stood at 129.22 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the upcoming China-EU summit will promote strategic mutual trust, said Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun on Tuesday.     Zhang said, the summit to be held on Nov. 30 in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing is the highest level of dialogue mechanism between the two sides, and it has a unique and leading role in the development of China-EU relations.     At the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jos Manuel Barroso, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, and EU High Representative Javier Solana will attend the summit. Both sides will exchange views on bilateral relations, global financial crisis and climate change.     Zhang said China hopes the summit will actively enhance strategic mutual trust and both sides will be more determined to support each other's choice of path of development.     China also hopes the two sides will make a general blueprint for the dialogue and cooperation in various fields and show the world their cooperation on global issues including trade protectionism and climate change, Zhang added.     China and EU have common or similar views on major international issues such as upholding multilateralism and promoting world peace and stability. They enjoy a sound basis of cooperation on promoting reform of international financial system and coping with climate change, Zhang said.     According to the Foreign Ministry, Chinese and EU leaders will attend the signing ceremonies of a series of agreements on science and technology, economic and trade, environment protection and industry, and hold a press conference after the summit.     The upcoming 12th China-EU summit is the second of its kind in 2009 as the first one was held in May, and it is also the third time for the leaders to meet in 2009 since Wen visited Europe at the beginning of this year.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 2009 UCLG World Council Meeting & Guangzhou International Sister Cities Conference, which gathered more than 1,000 representatives from about 210 cities and local organizations of more than 60 nations.     Founded in May 2004, the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is the largest local government organization in the world. The mayor of Guangzhou is the current co-president of UCLG. Xi said the UCLG has become an important platform for multilateral exchanges and cooperation as well as a bridge of friendship for global cities. He said although the world economy had showed some positive changes, the full recovery would still have a long way to go.     China would do its best to stabilize its own economic development, while playing an active role in international cooperation in order to promote the recovery of world economy, he noted.     He reiterated that China would continue to support the developing countries with a responsible attitude and fulfill its commitments of providing foreign assistance so as to push forward the realization of UN Millennium Development Goals.     Beijing Municipal government and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) jointly held the World Council Meeting of UCLG in June, 2005.
