(KGTV) - Bedbugs, the bane of many homeowners, were discovered lurking inside several San Diego County buildings last week.10News was tipped off to a bedbug infestation at a county building: the Agricultural Weights and Measures building in San Marcos.The county confirmed to 10News, bedbugs were found there and another building from the same department in Kearny Mesa.  As for how it happened, a county spokesperson revealed only that an employee is the cause and public areas were not affected.Workers from the Agricultural Weights and Measures Department, which provides pest control for the county, have laid traps, monitored for bed bugs, and moved employees to a separate area.Garrett Thrasher is Vice President of Thrasher Pest Control.  He says the typical plan of attack could also involve K9 alerting, vacuuming, steam cleaning and sometimes chemical treatments."From there, it's weekly checks to make sure there is no new activity or complaint," said Thrasher.Thrasher says bedbug calls have been increasing over the last few months and are slightly up from the same time last year. 1161

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating Monday night's shoot out at the border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Christopher Barajas said he was pulling up to the line to head into the U.S, but turned back. "Everyone started screaming before I even get to the line," said Barajas. It happened around 7:30 p.m. when police and Customs and Border Protection officers say the driver of a white pick up truck refused to stop at a secondary inspection area. Instead, the twenty-three-year-old allegedly accelerated and tried to drive straight through the port into the United States before being blocked by a vehicle. Police say the driver started firing shots from inside his truck and then got out and continued shooting at officers. Seven C-B-P officers returned fire, hitting the man at least once. Officers and San Diego Fire Rescue crews performed life saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene."If they didn't find any individuals in there, smuggling, he was probably hiding something in there," said Barajas.White plastic garbage bags could be seen sitting on the truck's tailgate, but police haven't released any information about what, if anything, was found. Tuesday, only the Sentri and Ready lanes remained open on the northbound side. Traffic heading into Mexico was not affected. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) – Authorities have identified the victim and suspect after a man and a woman were found dead in a San Marcos home Monday. The Medical Examiner identified the victim as Michelle Johnson, 43, as the victim and Tiko Leal, 49, as the suspect. Deputies were called to the home on the 1000 block of Lanza Court early Monday morning after receiving reports of unknown trouble. Neighbors told deputies that two children, ages 10 and 11, were inside the home and afraid to come out. After entering the home, Johnson and Leal were found unresponsive with trauma to their bodies, according to the department. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Department of Justice has filed complaints against 11 people believed to be in the caravan currently at the U.S.-Mexico border, accusing them of illegally entering the United States.Two Salvadorans, six Hondurans and three Guatemalans face the charges, CNN reports.10 of those charged face a misdemeanor chare for allegedly entering the U.S. illegally while another individual allegedly entered the country after being deported.A probable cause statement alleges many of those charged were seen in an area known as Goat Canyon on the U.S. side of the border.
