SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly one week after Election Day and with state Assemblyman Todd Gloria holding a comfortable lead, City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry conceded in the race for San Diego mayor. As of Nov. 9 vote totals, Gloria was leading Bry 56% to 46%.During a virtual press conference on Monday, Bry said she called Gloria the day before and offered her congratulations. Regarding the campaign, Bry said she felt voters were misled by the media and political ads from the opposition.Bry said, "I want to congratulate Todd Gloria as the next mayor of San Diego. He and I spoke by phone yesterday, and I offered him my congratulations. But for the next few years, our city faces many challenges because of COVID-19, and Mr. Gloria will have a tough job. Thousands of San Diegans are unemployed through no fault of their own and city revenues are declining."She added, "I wish those issues could have been more central to the mayoral campaign. We certainly tried to make them the focus of our communications. Unfortunately, interest groups supporting my opponent took a different approach.Perhaps inspired by the ‘fake news’ rhetoric coming out of Washington, they spent over million on TV commercials and mailers cynically designed to fool voters into thinking they were sponsored by our campaign. In times past, dishonest advertising of that sort would have been called out by responsible journalists, and voters would have been made aware of these cynical tactics. But the media -- like many citizens -- has become so desensitized to such tactics that they no longer pique their interest. And, unfortunately, these dishonest attacks clearly impacted our campaign."When asked if she would run for mayor again, Bry said she may not seek public office again. She added she plans to take time off with her family before her next endeavor.Bry, 71, will remain on the San Diego City Council until Dec. 10. She has served as the District 1 council representative since 2016.Gloria issued the following statement in response to Bry's concession:“I want to thank Councilmember Bry for her service to our City and I wish her and her family well. It is time to put the campaign behind us and come together as San Diegans to resolve the many challenges we face. Voters have embraced my vision of creating a City that works for all of us. It’s now time to turn that vision into reality. I am honored to be the next Mayor of San Diego.”Gloria, who is scheduled to be sworn in on Dec. 10, is the first person of color and LGBT person to be elected as San Diego's mayor.Gloria, 42, served on the City Council from 2008-2016. During that time, he served as council president and was acting mayor from Aug. 2013 until March 2014. 2737

"CBP officers are well trained to search and find irregularities that might be used to elude detection." 1058

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are seeking the public's help identifying two armed robbery suspects they say hit a Carmel Valley gas station last month.A man entered the Shell gas station located at 3861 Valley Centre Drive just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 25, San Diego Police (SDPD) said in a release. The man asked the station clerk to use the bathroom and when he returned, he was armed with a machete and wearing a mask. The man demanded money from the cash register and the clerk complied, SDPD said. The man then fled westbound from the gas station.Police said the clerk noticed a woman driving a gold-colored pickup truck, believed to be a Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab, toward the man as he was running away. The clerk told police he had recognized the man and woman inside the store a few days prior to the robbery. The man described as white, in his late 20s to mid-30s, about 5-foot-7, and with medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white California bear on the front, blue jeans, a dark grey or blue baseball cap with "Ford" on it, and blue Keds shoes. He was also carrying a green backpack and has a wraparound band-style tattoo on his left arm.The woman was described as white, in her 40s, with long dark hair, and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.Anyone with information is asked to call SDPD's robbery unit at 619-531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1435

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New statistics from San Diego County show the zip codes closest to the border have the most cases of COVID-19.According to the County's Coronavirus Heat Map, the zip codes 92154, 91911, 91910, 92113, and 91950 are the five highest for positive tests. Those zip codes make up the area of the County stretching along the harbor from San Ysidro through Chula Vista and National City. Those five zip codes account for more than 21% of all the positive tests in the County. The zip code that makes up most of San Ysidro, 92173, has the highest number of cases per capita in the County. In that zip code, one out of every 14 people has tested positive."We don't want these numbers to continue going up," says Adriana Bearse, the Research Program Manager for San Ysidro Health."When cases rise, it's not only people's health that gets affected. It's also other aspects of their lives like their job situation and their family situation."Bearse says the Pandemic is taking a disproportionate toll on the South Bay's minority community, especially among Latinx and Hispanic populations."These people are working essential jobs, people who may live in multi-Generational households, and also people who may not necessarily have as much access to other resources as other people in the community," she says. That includes less access to quality health care, food assistance, and financial assistance. The lack of help leads to more cases and more deaths.County records show 50% of San Diego's COVID-19-related deaths are among Hispanic or Latinx people, even though they make up just 34% of the County's total population. It's starting to take a toll on the South Bay healthcare system. At Sharp Chula Vista, the ICU in their brand new tower is 85% full. Of those patients, 38% are either COVID-positive or under investigation for COVID-related illness.Emergency Doctor Karrar Ali says it's overwhelming to think about what could happen in the next few months if cases keep rising."If the prediction is that this is going to be another second or third or fourth wave, I don't know if anyone's going to be prepared," he says.Healthcare workers in the South Bay are finding some solutions.Dr. Ali says sometimes it's as simple as reminding everyone to wear a mask and social distance.Bearse says San Ysidro Health has several outreach, discount, and educational programs available. One, "Testing With Care," offers a free telehealth visit to anyone who gets a COVID-19 test."That way, we can help walk the person through all these follow up items that are needed," she says. "We also make sure they can get follow-up care if they get a positive test."Healthcare workers also remind people in the South Bay to get a flu shot so local clinics and hospitals don't get overwhelmed by a double pandemic this fall. 2817

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than half of the San Diego-based breweries that participated in a fundraiser to help Camp Fire victims say they've completed their donation on time, according to research by the 10News team.In December, Sierra Nevada brewing asked breweries across the nation to brew "Resilience IPA" as a way to make money for the Butte Strong Fund.Sierra Nevada offered to provide the recipe and work with suppliers to get the ingredients donated. All the local brewers had to do was brew and sell the beer, and donate 100% of the proceeds to the fund.According to Sierra Nevada's Resilience IPA website, more than 1,400 breweries across the country signed up. That includes 43 in San Diego County.Sierra Nevada asked the brewers to finish selling Resilience IPA by April 30 and complete their donation by May 14.In an email sent to brewers on May 21, Sierra Nevada said that nearly half of the breweries still hadn't completed their donation.10News reached out to all 43 breweries in San Diego that took part in the effort to see if they're living up to their end of the fundraiser. We also asked how much money they were able to donate.Of the 43 San Diego breweries we called or emailed, 29 told us they had finished their donation and sent in a check. Those breweries sent more than 7,000 combined. Three breweries told us they haven't been able to finalize their donation. Eleven breweries have yet to respond to our questions. For Societe Brewery CEO Doug Constantiner, helping Camp Fire victims was personal."One of my really good friends lost his house in the fire," Constantiner says. "When we saw the email come through, there was no question about it. We knew we were on board and signed up right away."Societe brewed 20 barrels and raised ,000."I think people really got the message what the Resilience IPA was brewed for and were willing to put their dollars behind it, knowing it was going to a good cause," says Constantiner.San Diego-based AleSmith Brewing made a smaller, two-keg batch, but still raised ,400. "I can honestly never think of another time that another brewery's tap handle was on here at AleSmith," says Quality Supervisor Peter Cronin. He hopes that the breweries that haven't been able to finalize their donation will send the money soon."I'm hoping they didn't just use a big brewery's name, a quality brewery's name to market it a little bit," says Cronin. " And I hope they would donate the money from that beer. It's another brewry's recipe, it wasn't their own."Here is the list of all the San Diego breweries that participated in the Resilience IPA campaign and what they told 10News about their contributions:AleSmith Brewing Company: Brewed 2 kegs to sell in tasting room and raised ,400.
