BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) - China is still likely to meet its full-year inflation target this year despite the August inflation rate quickening to a 22-month high of 3.5 percent year on year, officials from the country' s top economic planer said Wednesday.In August, the consumer price index (CPI) rose mainly by increased prices of food products like pork and eggs, as the coming Mid-Autumn festival in China had boosted the consumption of food items, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).Further, the price rise of vegetables due to seasonal reasons contributed to the August CPI increase, said the NDRC authorities.The upcoming autumn harvest, which accounts for about 70 percent of China's annual grain output, is expected to stabilize food prices, which have a one-third weighting in the calculation of the CPI, said the NDRC.The NDRC also revealed that China would place central pork reserves on the market, which means pork prices cannot rise higher.Further, the industrial consumer prices are remaining stable with a slight decline, and this is not conducive to inflation, according to the NDRC.These elements are assisting in the drop of the CPI through the rest of the year, and is helpful for China to attain its full year inflation target, it added.China has targeted a 3 percent rise in consumer prices this year.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The value of yuan, China's currency Renminbi, hit new high against U.S. dollar Wednesday as the central parity rate of the yuan was set at 6.6693 per U.S. dollar, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.Wednesday's central parity rate beat the previous record of 6.6732 on Oct. 11.The yuan has picked up its strength against the U.S. dollars and seen increased volatility in the trading days since the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on June 19 this year to increase exchange rate flexibility.Based on Wednesday's central parity, the Chinese currency has strengthened against the U.S. dollar by about 2.32 percent from the rate of 6.8275 per U.S. dollar that was set a day before the PBOC's pledge to increase flexibility.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate during trading each day.The PBOC released the yuan's central parity rates against a basket of currencies -- the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen, the Hong Kong dollar, the British pound and the Malaysian Ringgit.The yuan's parity rate against the euro was set by the central bank at 9.294 Wednesday, lower from 9.2574 on Oct. 12, the previous trading day.The yuan's rate against 100 yen was 8.1477 Wednesday, compared with 8.124 on Tuesday.

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Xie Yun, a 24-year-old new graduate, felt excited when he opened the door of the 50-square-meter apartment he rented in Changzhou city of east China's Jiangsu Province.Starting work in a computer company in July, Xie is one of the lucky few who enjoyed lower rents offered as part of the local government's affordable housing program. He pays 4.5 yuan per square meter for one month, around 10 percent of his monthly income.Also, the apartment is equipped with an air conditioner, a TV set and automatic drying racks."I'm quite satisfied, and I prefer to rent such an apartment rather than buy one," said Xie.Xie's home is one of 133 small-sized public-rent apartments purchased by the Changzhou government and rented to low-income families and the newly employed. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a new national campaign to crack down on violations of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and on the production and distribution of fake and shoddy products.The decision was made at a regular meeting of the State Council Tuesday, which was presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The campaign will last for half a year, beginning from the end of October.The campaign will target pirated publications, software products, DVDs, designs and other products with IPRs, as well as violations of registered trademarks and patents, both at the production and distribution levels.The campaign will also enhance China's scrutiny over the import and export of fake goods and mete out stern punishment to businesses involved in the import and export of such goods.The campaign will target Internet piracy and the sale of pirated and fake goods via the Internet.Additionally, the State Council directed all government agencies to purchase only authorized software and their upgraded versions.At the Tuesday meeting, a draft regulation on gas use in urban areas was also passed in a bid to secure gas supplies and eliminate safety risks.
