The president signed a trade agreement with China on Wednesday that is expected to boost exports from U.S. farmers and manufacturers and ease trade tensions between the two countries going into November’s presidential election. President Donald Trump is describing an initial trade agreement with China as “righting the wrongs of the past and delivering a future of economic justice and security for American workers, farmers and families." Trump promoted the signing as a way of delivering economic justice for American workers. However, the "Phase 1" agreement will do little to force China to make major economic changes, such as reducing unfair subsidies for its own companies that the Trump administration sought when it started the trade war by imposing tariffs on Chinese imports in July 2018, 812

Thursday marks the third occasion Democratic presidential hopefuls take the stage for a debate, but this instance will be unlike the past two events. Unlike the first two debates, the lineup of debating candidates has been cut in half from 20 to 10. That means that the top 10 candidates based on polling will be on a single stage for one night. Thursday's debate will air live at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Univision. Viewers can also watch Thursday's debate at ABC.com. Thursday's debate will be held in Houston. The debate is slated to last three hours. The candidatesFormer Vice President Joe BidenNew Jersey Sen. Cory BookerSouth Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete ButtigiegFormer Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián CastroCalifornia Sen. Kamala HarrisMinnesota Sen. Amy KlobucharFormer Texas Rep. Beto O'RourkeVermont Sen. Bernie SandersMassachusetts Sen. Elizabeth WarrenEntrepreneur Andrew YangThe candidates on stage qualified by having 130,000 unique donors by Aug. 28, and earning 2 percent in four polls that sample voters nationally or in the states of New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada, or South Carolina. A large field of candidates did not qualify for Thursday's debate. Candidates who appeared in previous debates such as Rep. Tim Ryan, Mayor Bill DeBlasio, Gov. Steve Bullock, author Marianne Williamson, Sen. Michael Bennet, Rep. John Delaney and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard failed to qualify. The aforementioned candidates have until Oct. 1 to qualify for the next debate in October. Activist Tom Steyer, who has not yet appeared in a debate, has recently qualified for the October debate, meaning the next debate could revert back to a two-night format. ModeratorsABC News' David Muir and Linsey Davis will join Univision anchor Jorge Ramos as moderators. Ramos and Muir, at separate events, moderated Democratic Party debates leading up to the 2016 election. Muir also moderated a Republican Party debate in 2016. FormatThe debate will mark the longest one so far in this debate season going a full three hours. Each candidate will be given one minute and 15 seconds for direct responses to questions, and 45 seconds for responses and rebuttals. Candidates will have the opportunity to deliver opening statements, but there will be no closing statements, ABC said. The top 10 on one stageThursday is arguably the night many voters have waited for with the entire top 10 slate of candidates on one stage. For instance, this is the first time that Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden will share a stage. Will Warren take a shot at Biden now that she has the opportunity? We'll find out on Thursday. AirtimeIn the first two debates, in general, the candidates with higher polling figures got more airtime. Through the first two debates, Biden has led total airtime with almost 39 minutes of talk time. The candidate who appeared in both debates who had the least amount of talk time was Yang with just 11.7 minutes of airtime. Despite little air time in the previous debates, Yang has seen his polling numbers slowly rise. An ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday showed Yang has moved into sixth place, passing others such as Booker and O'Rourke.PollingAn ABC/Washington Post poll released Sunday shows Biden leading with 29 percent, followed by Sanders at 19 percent, Warren at 18 percent, Harris at 7 percent, Buttigieg at 4 percent and Yang at 3 percent.According to Real Clear Politics, there haven't been any major shifts in support since early July. Following the first debate, Harris saw a sizable bump in her polling, briefly jumping into the No. 2 slot. She has since fallen to fourth, well behind Biden, Sanders and Warren. Warren and Sanders remain locked into a battle for second. Gun control could be a major issueAlthough gun control has been discussed at the two previous debates, there have been several mass shootings since the Detroit debate in July. Two of those mass shootings took place in Texas -- the same state hosting Thursday's debate. Like how health care was a central issue at the last debate, it would make sense that gun control will be a key discussion point on Thursday.Foreign policyOne issue that has also gained more attention since the last debate is the United States' discussion on leaving Afghanistan. President Donald Trump reportedly called off peace negotiations with Taliban rebels in Afghanistan amid a rise in violence in the country the U.S. has occupied since 2001. Yes, this has been an issue for now the fifth election cycle, but still an important one.Biden's plan versus Warren's planWe have yet to hear Biden and Warren debate their respective healthcare plans. This will certainly be an interesting juxtaposition of policies if debated. On one hand, Biden has advocated for fortifying Obamacare, which was built around the private insurance model. Whereas Warren has suggested in previous debates to abolish private insurance to go with a strictly government-run system. 4940

The suspected driver in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes will be held without bail, a Texas judge ruled Monday.Eric Black Jr., 20, did not speak during the five-minute probable cause hearing in Harris County court. Wearing a yellow jail jumpsuit, his hands and feet shackled, he sat in the jurors' box during the proceeding with at least a half-dozen deputies in tactical vests standing before him.The Harris County Sheriff's Office said Saturday it filed capital murder charges against the 20-year-old, but it was not clear if he has been formally charged by the court. Black was not required to enter a plea Monday. His attorney, Alvin Nunnery, entered a motion saying Black invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and should no longer be interviewed by investigators. The motion was granted.Prosecutors said Black has confessed to driving the car from which Jazmine was shot December 30 in Houston, and a gun found at his home was consistent with eight shell casings found at the scene. Black and the suspected shooter mistook the car carrying Jazmine for a car belonging to someone with whom the pair had had an earlier altercation at a club, prosecutors said.Black's mother wept and clutched a family member's hand during the hearing. Black mouthed "I love you" to family members as he left the courtroom.Police: Traffic stop led to confessionBlack was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal Saturday night and was arrested for marijuana possession, Texas authorities said. Thanks to an earlier anonymous tip, police learned Black might have been involved in the drive-by shooting of Jazmine, who was shot in the head while riding in a car with her three sisters and their mother. The anonymous tipster said Black and another person, identified as "L.W.," shot at the vehicle after mistaking it for another one.During questioning, Black acknowledged he drove the vehicle used in the shooting while a man in the passenger seat opened fire, according to an affidavit.Black also said the gun used in the shooting was at his home, the affidavit said. He gave officers permission to search his home, where they found a 9 mm pistol consistent with shell casings recovered from the scene. The fate of "L.W." is not clear.Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he believes two suspects were involved in the shooting. The sheriff declined to name the second person, citing the investigation. Prosecutors identified Larry Woodruffe as the second suspect in a court hearing Saturday, the 2505

Three of Jeopardy's most decorated champions will battle on Thursday and Friday for this year's Tournament of Champions, and they are asking fans of the show to help raise money for pancreatic cancer research. Not only has Jeopardy host Alex Trebek been fighting pancreatic cancer, Larry Martin, the 2018 Teachers' Tournament champion died from pancreatic cancer in January. Martin would have qualified for this year's Tournament of Champions had it not been for his death. In addition to raising money, the champions have also worn purple ribbons to honor Martin.Steven Grade, a Tournament of Champions semifinalist lost to James Holzhauer on Tuesday. Grade is encouraging viewers to play along on Thursday and Friday and donate every time they get an answer correct. Grade's tweet has been shared by other Jeopardy champions."Play one night, play both nights, donate an amount that is right for you, or help spread the word to Jeopardy! watchers and non-watchers alike – every little bit helps, and every little bit helps to honor Alex, Larry, and all those who are fighting and have fought pancreatic cancer," Grade wrote. The charity is the Lustgarten Foudnation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. As of Thursday afternoon, more than ,000 has been raised. The foundation said that every dollar raised will go directly to cancer research. This tournament has been an emotional one so far. During Monday's semifinal round, in Final Jeopardy, Dhruv Gaur, who was in a distant third place entering Final Jeopardy, responded "What is We <3 you Alex!"Gaur's response clearly choked up Trebek during Final Jeopardy. "That is very kind of you," Trebek said to Gaur's answer. To donate, click 1703
