EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - An upset burglary victim says she didn't get emotional when she saw the surveillance video, until she heard what the intruders did.Just off Applewood Drive around 4 p.m. Sunday, Michele returned home from grocery shopping with her 7-year-old daughter."I saw the bedroom was in complete disarray, grabbed my daughter and said, 'Let's get out of the house right now,'" said Michele.Ring doorbell video shows what happened: three men cased the home, then approached and hopped over her fence. Moments later, the three bag-toting men ripped off the screen of a back window and climbed in.The sound of Michele's dog, a 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer named Trixie, is heard barking and then there is another noise: a pained whimpering lasting more than five seconds."Something was done to her to cause her pain. It brought me to more tears than knowing we'd been violated," said Michele.About half an hour later, two of the men are seen leaving through the window, swatting at and toppling a camera on the way out. They would make off with electronics, a handgun and dozens of pieces of jewelry, including some priceless family heirlooms. Also gone was Michele's diamond and platinum wedding ring set."There was sentimental value for sure," said Michele. But Michele says she's thankful Trixie wasn't hurt badly. She also says missing the burglars by minutes was a literal blessing because she had stopped at church for a few minutes before coming home. "Really blessed to have God's protection," said Michele.Michele posted the videos on the Neighbors by Ring app, in hopes of tracking down a trio of brazen burglars."They clearly knew what they were doing. Now we know there is a weapon in their possession," said Michele. If you have any information on the case, call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or El Cajon Police at 619-579-3311. 1884
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - As 10News explores Life in El Cajon, we’re examining the rich history of a city that started with “gold in them thar hills.” The name means “the box” or drawer in Spanish, referring to the way the valley is boxed in by the mountains in East County. A structure that survived El Cajon’s long history is the Knox Hotel, which opened in 1876 to house people drawn to Julian during the Gold Rush. “The people who came here were not poor, they came and they could build lovely houses and buildings like this,” said Eldonna Lay, curator of the Knox House Museum. Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonThe location was halfway between Old Town and Julian, a bend in the road that came to be known as “Knox’s Corners.” It would later grow into El Cajon. In 1889, the railroad arrived and the town began to thrive. El Cajon was incorporated in 1912, bringing advancements like street lights and cement sidewalks. El Cajon’s main attractions were citrus and chicken farming and a warm climate for people suffering from tuberculosis. Gillespie Field played a big role in World War II. It was then known as “Camp Gillespie.” “All of the planes were being made in San Diego but they were out in what became our airfield,” said Lay. In 1947, the Mother Goose Parade was a gift to children from local businesses. In 1961, Interstate 8 opened and businesses started booming. Lay believes growth means the sky is the limit for the city. “They're going to have to go higher, because we've run out of land,” said Lay. 1529

Renz suffered minor injuries.Deputy District Attorney Laura Evans said Renz and the victims drank throughout the afternoon of Jan. 25 before the defendant got behind the wheel and drove somewhere between 85 to 96 mph down Buckman Springs Road, then crashed the Jetta into an oak tree. The passenger's side of the sedan -- where both Meyer and Wiltfong were sitting -- took the brunt of the crash, according to the prosecutor.Evans said the high speed of the Jetta caught the attention of Border Patrol officers stationed near the scene, some of whom pursued the sedan, but were unable to stop it before the crash. Officers arrived to a "very violent scene," in which the Jetta was found overturned and on fire, Evans said.Mechanical issues were ruled out as a potential cause of the crash by California Highway Patrol investigators, according to the prosecutor. 1677
