SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man was walking downtown to his apartment with a pizza Thanksgiving Day, about to spend the evening alone, when he met a gentleman who asked for a slice.The two sat down, shared the pizza and a conversation. The man who bought the pizza, Broc Costa, said the conversation with the homeless man was enlightening. He learned the man was a veteran trying to get mental health services in California, splitting his time between San Diego and Arizona where his wife and kids live.He said it was too expensive to live or buy a hotel room here so he was on the street. "To be blunt, we're all about one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation," Costa said.So next year he bought 5 pizzas to hand out, the next 20 and the year after that, 20 more.This tradition started 7 years ago.Now Costa's raising money and sending volunteers across the county to deliver pizzas to homeless where they reside."It would be really cool for him to see what he started, because he's just as important in this as I was," Costa said he wishes him the best.This year they're at Petco Park's tailgate parking lot near the pedestrian bridge, in Escondido and Pacific Beach delivering more than 50 pizzas and serving 500 to 1,000, according to Costa. 1304

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- America’s Finest City ranked high on a new list of best cities for jobs in 2019, according to WalletHub. San Diego ranked 28th out of 182 cities overall. Chula Vista also made the list, coming in 123rd place. According to the report, the national unemployment rate has fallen to an 18-year low of just 3.7 percent, while hiring also is up. College graduates are also beginning to see the benefits of the strong job market. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers plan to hire 16.6 percent more members from the class of 2019 compared to the previous year. Though San Diego secured a strong spot on the list, many cities ranked higher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shark was seen off the San Clemente Pier Monday morning, prompting lifeguards to close a two-mile stretch of beach.Several witnesses saw the shark about 9 a.m.  It was estimated at nine feet long, lifeguards said. They did not know what type of shark it was.Few people were in the water because of cold temperatures and minimal surf, said officials. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vandal targeted at least a dozen vehicles at a popular shopping center in University City on Friday, flattening tires across one of the parking lots."It's very upsetting," said Camille Bsaibes.Bsaibes showed 10news a Toyota RAV4 with a flat tire. The vehicle belongs to his son. Bsaibes, who owns Amardeen restaurant, located in the Renaissance Towne Centre, experienced his own flat tire Friday while driving his van. Bsaibes didn't notice it until he was one the road."When I was driving, I was shaking ... wondering why it was shaking," said Bsaibes.Bsaibes pulled over and found three of his tires flat. His total bill to replace tires? Nearly 0. That day, three of his employees also felt their tires go flat as they were driving home from work. They were all parked in the same back lot. It was a similar story for four employees of the L-Transformation beauty boutique. In all, at least 12 vehicles from 4 of the businesses were hit in one day. It happened in broad daylight at the busy shopping center, sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m."The tire shop said somebody used a long, sharp object and punctured the side of the wheel," said Bsaibes.The flat tires weren't immediately obvious and didn't become a problem until the vehicle were on the road. Many working at the shopping center wonder if that was on purpose. Was the vandal hoping to cause havoc on the roads? "I'm glad everyone is safe. It could have been worse. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico has died in a San Diego hospital, according to his family.Chad Carrico was on a cruise October 10 when he chose to leave the ship for a day trip in Ensenada.Carrico and friends rented ATV’s, according to his mother Theresa. While using the vehicles, Carrico hit something and lost control.“He flew over the handles and the ATV rolled on top of him and crushed him,” said Carrico.RELATED: San Diego woman celebrating birthday in Mexico?injured in parasailing crashCarrico suffered severe liver damage, a punctured lung, and internal bleeding. He had surgery at Velmar Hospital in Mexico and was placed on life support, his family said.The need to return Carrico to the United States became more pressing when his family learned he contracted a dangerous fungus on his nose that could spread to his brain.Carrico was brought back to the U.S. Tuesday night but died at a Scripps Mercy hospital hours later, his family told 10News.The family had started a GoFundMe account to raise money for Carrico's medical bills.
