SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fifty-three undocumented immigrants were arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement over the last week in San Diego County.Arrests took place in Santee, Vista, Encinitas, Chula Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, Imperial Beach, and San Diego, according to ICE officials.The five-day operation targeted individuals with final orders of removal, who have re-entered illegally after being removed, who have violated federal law, or whose detainers were not honored and were located after release from jail.RELATED: ICE arrests 115 immigrants in Southern CaliforniaOfficials said of the 44 arrested, criminal histories included vandalism, hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and other drug offenses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For months San Diego bee removal companies have been swarmed with calls to remove hives, but where is best to relocate them?One Encinitas company has a solution, hooking up property owners who want bees with beekeepers."When your house gets invaded by bees, instead of spraying them with poison we take them out alive and chemical-free and find good homes for them," said James Mcdonald, founder of the Encinitas Bee Company.Mcdonald will relocate hives to homes or businesses interested in hosting a hive; then a local beekeeper will tend to them."Hundreds of potential beekeepers living in apartments would love to keep bees, but they have no land," said Mcdonald. The Host a Hive program is free for property owners, and they get to keep any honey produced. Mcdonald said he shared a post on Nextdoor about the program and was flooded with messages from people wanting to host a hive. He currently has several bee hives at home that he'd like to relocate. "I'm bursting at the seam and really need people and beekeepers that are willing to help me," said Mcdonald. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Harbor Police are investigating after a boat caught fire early Sunday morning in the San Diego Bay.The department tweeted around 5 a.m. about the fire at Marina Cortez.According to police, a good Samaritan helped put out the fire before units arrived on scene. The person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown. 393

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hate crimes throughout San Diego County and across the state are rising at an alarming rate, according to new reports.Hate crimes between 2015 and 2017 rose 27 percent in San Diego County alone, a new report published in Law Enforcement Quarterly states.Statewide, hate crimes rose 44 percent between 2014 and 2017.A report from California’s Attorney General shows that San Diego County saw 95 hate crime incidents in 2017. That compared with 84 hate crimes countywide in 2016 and 72 in 2015.According to documents, anti-Semitic hate crime rose nearly 27 percent from 2016 to 2017 statewide. Hate crimes involving racial bias increased 16 percent within the same amount of time.The statistics come amid recent tragedies around the country, including a shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday that left 11 people dead. RELATED: Sign outside UCSD Jewish student center defacedThe rise in hate crimes also coincide with recent events in San Diego.
