BEIJING, Aug 5(Xinhunet) -- China's machinery industry has rebounded during the first half of this year, but the momentum is likely to slow as the country's economy cools.The machinery industry has grown by 37 percent during the first six months of 2010, with a total output value of 6.59 trillion yuan, according to the China Machinery Industry Federation, a quasi-governmental institution that oversees growth of China's machinery sector.The machinery industry, which has benefited from the government's 4 trillion yuan investment spending spree, enjoyed expansion in large-scale construction projects over the last year. The construction machinery sector reported 54 percent growth during the first half of this year, according to the federation.The strong growth of the industry is based on preliminary statements by several listed machinery companies submitted to the stock exchange.Shanghai-listed Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology Development Co, which is also planning to launch a listing in Hong Kong, predicted its profit would grow by 50 percent to 100 percent over the first half this year.Sany Heavy Industry Co is also expected to record 85 percent growth this year, according to Ping An Securities. The maker has already reported a growth rate of 170 percent in profit during the first quarter of this year.However, not all machinery industry sectors are reporting the same momentum as domestic demand has decreased this year. New orders in power generation equipment, transmission and substation equipment as well as heavy machinery, have rolled back this year."It is unlikely to see significant growth in the output of power equipment this year and it will probably stand around 117 million kW since the base figure is already huge," according to Cai Weici, vice-president of the federation, adding that China's output of power equipment already makes up half of the world's total."There is also less demand for heavy machinery used in steel production because the industry is eliminating outdated productivity, thus reducing market demand," Cai said.Fixed-assets investment in the machinery industry which has maintained a growth rate of over 40 percent since 2004 slowed down by 27 percent to 79.8 billion yuan, signaling less reserved strength for further growth.In term of exports, the machinery industry will be exposed to several uncertain factors including a more flexible yuan exchange rate as well as rising labor and raw material costs.The federation forecasts the industry's growth rate will be 20 percent in 2010.

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- China and Bolivia here on Friday celebrated the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) hosted a reception in Beijing to mark the event.About 120 guests from China and Bolivia, including Jiang Shusheng, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress attended the reception.Addressing the reception, CPAFFC Vice President Li Xiaolin said the years after China and Bolivia forged diplomatic ties have witnessed smooth development of bilateral relations, with strengthening political and economic relations and deepening exchanges and cooperation in the cultural, military, scientific and technological fields.The two nations, which understand and support each other in the international arena, have similar positions on many issues, Li said.Non-governmental exchanges are expanding between China and Bolivia while official relations are undergoing healthy and in-depth development, Li added.Bolivian Ambassador to China Fernando Rodriguez Urena spoke highly of Bolivia-China relations, saying their friendship and cooperation have entered a new phase.He added that the two nations complement each other in many areas, and there is great potential for cooperation.China and Bolivia forged diplomatic ties in July, 1985.

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The gross domestic product (GDP) in China's western regions grew by 13.5 percent year on year in 2009, much higher than the country's revised national GDP growth of 9.1 percent, according to a report issued here on Saturday.It is the eighth year in a row for these regions to score a double-digit GDP growth after the Chinese government launched a "West Development" campaign ten years ago, read the report on the economic development of China's western regions issued by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.It attributed the GDP growth mainly to China's policies to stimulate domestic demand and the increase in investment, despite the global financial crisis.Five provinces, regions or municipalities saw an increase of more then ten percent in the disposable income of urban citizens in 2009, as the income gap between China's western and eastern regions had begun to narrow, the report said.The average yearly per capita disposable income of urban citizens in the western regions was 12,971 yuan (about 1,918 U.S. dollars) in 2008.Noting that economic development in the western regions still heavily relied on natural resources, the report said efforts should be made to increase the regions' capacity to ensure sustainable development, while establishing a low-carbon industrial system.

GUANLING, Guizhou, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a rain-triggered landslide in southwest China's Guizhou Province had risen to 13 after rescuers recovered another two bodies Thursday night, rescue headquarters said.Some 2,000 people continued the rescue operation, but the chance of survival for the other 86 villagers was slim after being buried under mud for three days, rescuers said.More bodies are expected to be found as rescuers comb the ruins."It is almost impossible for any of the trapped to be alive now. We are doing our utmost to retrieve the bodies. He rushed home after hearing the tragedy.Despite the grief, he is helping children to resume classes as a "temporary teacher"."I major in education, and I think I can help," he said.More than 80 students resumed their classes in make-shift tents Thursday."In the first two days we were looking for survivors with life detectors and sniffer dogs. Today the priority has shifted to retrieving bodies," said rescuer Fan Wenjian.The landslide lasted for two minutes, and there was no warning.It would have been very difficult for the villagers to escape, said an official with the Guizhou Provincial Work Safety Bureau."The sound was much like thunder. When I looked back, the whole village had disappeared," said survivor Zhang Jin.The landslide consisted of about 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters of mud, and it was unstable and likely to trigger additional landslides, said Yin Yueping, a researcher with the Ministry of Land and Resources.At least 1,000 villagers living in the area have been evacuated.Torrential rains have been ravaging south China over the past two months. A once-in-three-century rainstorm was seen in Lingyun County of Guizhou's neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from Sunday to Tuesday, and residents have to go outdoors by boat."It will take more than 10 days for the flood to wane because of the geological structure here," said Zhou Lixin, secretary of Lingyun's Luolou Town Committee of the Communist Party of China.Heavy rainstorms also hit east China's Shandong Province and northwest China's Qinghai Province. HANOI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made five proposals to the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) here on Friday to enhance regional security.Firstly, Yang said countries should bear in mind the overall situation and interests when dealing with sensitive regional issues, and always safeguard the regional peace and stability.Secondly, Yang said countries should adopt a new security concept by seeking cooperation instead confrontation, and respecting and taking care of each other's core interest and security.Thirdly, countries should respect each other, strengthen political mutual trust, improve and develop long-term, healthy and stable relations.Fourthly, countries should exercise restraint when disputes arise and settle disputes through peaceful means.Fifthly, countries should make use of multilateral mechanism like Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN Regional Forum and Six-Party Talks to promote common interest and common security.Yang said on one hand, the situation in Asia-Pacific region is generally stable. On the other hand, the unstable and uncertain factors are increasing.Yang said ARF could serve as a security dialogue platform to push for mutual trust among members. Yang also urged ARF members to strengthen cooperation on non-traditional security issues including anti-terrorism, disaster relief, non-proliferation and maritime security.ARF comprises 27 members including the ten ASEAN member states namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the 10 ASEAN dialogue partners namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States, and seven other countries in the Asia and Pacific region namely Bangladesh, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Papua New Guinea.
