SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The FBI said a bank robber who held up a US Bank in Rolando last week struck again Friday in La Mesa. Surveillance photos show a man entering the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 8011 University Ave. in La Mesa just before noon. The man pretended to talk on his phone before demanding money from the teller, agents said. He also threatened “to shoot” if he didn’t receive money, according to the FBI. After approaching the first counter, the man approached several tellers in an effort to get more cash, said investigators. The man spoke to tellers Aug. 15 during the US Bank robbery inside the Vons at 6155 El Cajon Blvd. “Grab a bag. Start with your 100s. Put all the money in the bag and give it to me or I'm gonna [sic] shoot,” the man said, according to agents. A helicopter searched the area near the Wells Fargo Friday afternoon but could not find the man. La Mesa Police said the man is 5’8”, in his mid-20s to early 30s, and has a tattoo of a cross on his forearm. Anyone with information about the robberies was asked to call the FBI. 1088

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city is running behind on a project to restore an iconic bridge that borders Hillcrest and North Park.Now, people in the area are growing frustrated at the construction on the Georgia St. bridge that's causing traffic delays and drivers to use surrounding neighborhoods as shortcuts."Traffic is very very bad because of te bridge, and I have to go around to buy stuff for my shop, and it's taking me longer to get where I want to go," said Milan Misic, who lives in the area and owns the Balboa Perk coffee and antique shop. The city is restoring the 103-year-old bridge so it can withstand an earthquake. The city broke ground on the million project in July 2016, saying it would take a year. But now it won't be finished until next spring.A city spokesman says the delays are because of weather, and unanticipated cobbles and deposits crews discovered in the bridge walls, making drilling more difficult.He added that there is no threat to public safety and it will not raise the cost.You can track the project on the city's website.   1092

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego could be closing as part of an effort to integrate women into the Marines.MCRD has been in San Diego for about 100 years, but it currently does not have facilities specifically for female Marines.According to a Military.com report, Marine Corps officials are looking at other options in order to meet the integration mandate from Congress.One proposal would create a single boot camp that would include the necessary facilities, rather than the current process of dividing recruits between MCRD in San Diego and the boot camp in Parris Island, South Carolina.In response to a possible closure, the San Diego Military Advisory Council said losing the area boot camp would cost the city.SDMAC Executive Director Mark Balmert said, “So 400 recruits a week come through our location here, about 16,000-17,000 a year. Our studies have shown more than 60,000 of their family members make the trip to San Diego to be a part of their recruit graduation.”Marine officials have already told the Pentagon it cannot add women to boot camps without building new facilities. 1139

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video caught on team of thieves targeting a home in Point Loma. The home sits on a street just off Catalina boulevard. Last Thursday, just before 8 p.m., an SUV is seen driving up and then driving away. 12 minutes later, it's back. This time, it parks. As the camera switches to night vision, three figures emerge. On the side of the home, they are seen hunting for a way in. The dual-pane sliding door in the kitchen is later found shattered. The next time they are seen, the three burglars wearing hoodies are scrambling out of the home, two of them carrying safes. Once they reach the SUV, they toss the safes into the back and take off. Inside the safes: a partial coin collection and dozens of pieces of jewelry, many of them family heirlooms. "I'm angry amd there is a feeling of being empty," said David, who asked 10news not to identify him. One of the stolen pieces is an opal-and-diamond necklace belonging to David's 90-year-old mother, who is living with dementia. She helped design the piece to celebrate her journey from file clerk to business owner at the same business. "Something missing you can't replace ... My mother became a success in a man's world. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The FBI’s Violent Task Crimes Force asked for the public’s help Monday to find a man known as the “Burgundy Bandit” and wanted for nine robberies in San Diego, La Mesa, and El Cajon.In each robbery, the man entered the business and approached an employee, flashing a gun hidden in his waistband, the FBI said in a news release.The man demanded money and walked away.
