SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are alerting San Diego State students and neighbors after a man reportedly tried to steal a someone's phone before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.SDSU Police say the man approached the victim at about 9 p.m. in the 5500 block of Hardy Avenue on Wednesday. The man wrapped his arms around the victim and tried to take a cell phone from their hands, police say.The victim crouched down, grabbed their cell phone, and began screaming. A passerby saw what was happening and intervened, pulling the man off the victim.The man then jumped in to rear of a white sedan with tinted windows being driven by a second suspect.Police described the first suspect as a black male who appeared about 30 years old, 6-feet tall, with average build, short curly black hair and short facial hair. He was last seen shirtless, wearing dark-colored pants and basketball-style sneakers.The suspect in the waiting vehicle was described as a 20- to 30-year-old black female, wearing a gray or white shirt and her hair styled in a bun.Anyone with information is asked to call SDSU Police at 619-594-1991. 1109

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of the San Diego Zoo's oldest residents was euthanized due to age-related illnesses Wednesday.The zoo's male African lion, M'bari, had been suffering from a degenerative kidney, large kidney cyst, and spinal arthritis and under veterinary care before the decision was made to put him down, according to park spokesperson Andrew Jones.At 15-years-old, M'bari had exceeded expectations of a lion's average lifespan, which is about 10 years in the wild and can exceed 25 years in captivity, according to the zoo."In recent days, his condition had steadily worsened, despite attempts by animal care staff to modify his habitat to make him more comfortable," a statement from the zoo read. "This morning, because of his worsening quality of life, animal care staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him."M'bari was introduced to locals at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 2004 with the opening of Lion Camp when he was about two years old. He eventually moved to the San Diego Zoo in 2009, and has most recently lived with his mate, Etosha, in the Harry and Grace Steele Elephant Odyssey habitat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a homeless man a Mission Valley father says tried dragging his daughter into bushes before she was able to escape.Chris Gilbert says his 11-year-old daughter went to check the mail Saturday around 2 p.m. on the 5900 block of Caminito Deporte when the incident happened.After walking across the street to check the mail, Gilbert says his daughter felt hands on her shoulders.RELATED: San Diego Homelessness Czar to go on leave to open Mormon temple"She thought it was me, sneaking up playing a game,” Gilbert said.Then, Gilbert says, the man grabbed the 11-year-old by the neck and started dragging her toward some bushes.“She told me he put his hands on her shoulders from behind and was holding her, turned around and kicked him in the shin, got loose and ran into the house and found me upstairs.”That’s when Gilbert ran downstairs to confront the homeless man, hitting him in the shoulder as a warning.RELATED: Oceanside residents demand solution to homelessness issue“I said, ‘you need to get out of here,’ then he started hitting me.”Gilbert’s daughter describes the man as six foot, two inches tall, between the ages of 40 to 45 with thick glasses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police released a sketch Thursday depicting the suspect of a sexual assault at Black's Beach near La Jolla Shores this week.San Diego Police say the female victim was jogging on the beach Wednesday when she was sexually assaulted. The suspect slapped the woman's buttocks twice and grabbed her in the genital area before she broke free and called for help.Officers responded by did not find the man. The suspect is described as a Black man between 30 and 40 years old, with short to no hair and an earring in one ear.
