(KGTV) - Families who are caught illegally entering the U.S. will likely be broken up under a new border security policy that is now in effect, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.The newspaper, citing a Department of Homeland Security official, reported a new Trump administration policy would separate parents and children in the event a family is detained for crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.In a news conference Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the separation is due to the legal process, adding that citizens in the U.S. are also separated from their families when they're arrested.According to the report, families that are detained for illegal crossings have typically been kept together in the past. (KGTV) -- A Marine with a Camp Pendleton-based unit died and a search is underway for eight others from that group following a training accident off the coast of San Clemente Island, U.S. Marine officials said.Officials said the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. Thursday during a routine training exercise involving the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, according to officials.An amphibious assault vehicle with 15 Marines and one sailor inside reported taking water during the exercise, officials said.Seven members of the group were rescued and taken to the hospital, but officials confirmed another -- a Marine -- died at Scripps La Jolla Hospital. Two individuals, both Marines, were in critical and stable conditions, respectively.The five other members have returned to their assigned ship.The eight members — seven Marines and one sailor — remained missing as of Friday afternoon and were being searched for by the Navy's USS John Finn, three Navy helicopters, several smaller Navy vessels and a U.S. Coast Guard ship and helicopter, Marine officials said.Officials say that all families of the Marines and the sailor involved have been notified."We have not moved into a recovery operation," Gen. Gavin Newsom said the state was not planning to issue such guidance soon, despite reports last week that rules that would allow the shuttered locations to reopen would be issued soon.Disney Chairman Bob Iger recently left the state's economic recovery task force, an early indication that business leaders for the industry could be at odds with the state over reopening. According to the Associated Press, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a proposed draft they reviewed this month."There’s disagreements in terms of opening a major theme park. We’re going to let science and data make that determination," Newsom said, adding that he wasn't "surprised at all" that Iger left.Newsom said the state is continuing to work with the industry and would approach theme parks with a "health-first" framework, but was not in a hurry to release rules."We are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it," Newsom said. "That’s our commitment — that’s our resolve. We feel there’s no hurry putting out guidelines."He added that working to put out appropriate rules would depend on local data."It’s very complex. (KGTV) -- A suspect in the freeway shooting death of a San Diego man was arrested following a standoff at a San Diego hotel, California Highway Patrol officials announced Monday.Vincent Dulay Deguzman Jr. faces charges in connection with the June 7 death of 47-year-old San Diego resident Jessie Garcia Sr., CHP officials said.According to the CHP, on June 7, Deguzman and Garcia were in a Kia Altima on southbound Interstate 5 in Irvine when Deguzman, who was behind the wheel, allegedly shot Garcia and then abandoned the rental car south of Culver Drive, where it was found on the shoulder with the body next to the vehicle at around 7:33 a.m.On June 11, CHP investigators identified Deguzman as the suspect in the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest.Investigators collaborated with the San Diego Fugitive Task Force and tracked Deguzman to a Hilton Garden Inn in San Diego.CHP officials said, “Deguzman barricaded himself inside a hotel room and a stand-of ensued.”Deguzman eventually surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.Deguzman was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder and being held without bail.CHP officials did not release any information on a possible motive in the case. 1234

(KGTV) -- A Central Valley man has been arrested for reportedly attempting to join ISIS, according to KGO.The man, identified as Bernard Raymond Augustine, 20, from Keyes, California was arrested on charges of providing material support to terrorists.Augustine was taken into custody while trying to enter Libya to join the Islamic State terrorist group.Augustine is expected to make his first appearance in federal court in Brooklyn Tuesday, according to authorities.Records show that Augustine told U.S. Customs he was going to Tunisia, where he was later arrested, for a vacation.After searching through his computer, authorities discovered a song that praised ISIS and messages sent by Augustine that seemed to do the same. 740
