Doctors and researchers have noticed that the coronavirus affects children differently. Now, there are questions about how accurate COVID-19 tests are in kids.One recent study done by several laboratories and hospitals in Massachusetts looked at the BinaxNOW rapid test.The test had a high accuracy rate in adults, but when it came to symptomatic patients 18 and under, the accuracy rate was just under 78%. The rate decreased in asymptomatic children.Another paper, published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection, found the Panbio rapid test had a lower accuracy rate in children. It was only able to identify 62% of COVID-19 cases in patients under 16 years old.Doctors have differing opinions on why accuracy rates may be different in children.One doctor tells Yahoo News that children's immune systems are just better at zeroing in on diseases and making them harder to detect.A pediatric doctor we spoke with says she hasn't seen a difference in accuracy rates. If anything, symptoms may be different.“Sometimes the way that the disease processes or goes about in these children can change. It can change with obesity rates and things like that, but we have had it be successful with infants age as well as on up,” said Laura-Anne Cleveland with the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.There may also be some variation in the way the test is performed. The cotton swab is the same size for both adults and children, which means it could be more uncomfortable for kids.“Kids move around. If you have a little kid that you're trying to hold down, they're going to move around, and sometimes, we don't want to cause pain or cause tears, but you do have to get in that nose, do a couple turns, and be able to get a good sample,” said Cleveland.When children are tested, doctors say it may actually be a bad sign if they are comfortable during the test, because it may not produce an accurate result. DICKSON, Tenn. — Animal rescue officials said dogs found with signs of abuse and neglect belonged to the family of missing 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels.Two dogs were found left on a stranger’s property on Garners Creek Road last Sunday night, three days before Joe Clyde was reported missing by his parents.The Dickson County Humane Society and TCB Kennels Boarding & Rescue have been working to give the dogs proper care. “It was pretty sad,” said DCHS General Manager Vivienne Akhdary. “They were very skinny. They were covered in fleas and ticks and were very scared. The dogs were not well taken care of, and behavior shows definite signs of abuse.”“They just pulled over and dropped them off,” said TCB Kennels Boarding & Rescue Founder Trisha Davis.Davis has been taking care of the dogs because the animal shelter is full. The homeowner who found them first contacted her.“They’re actually still searching for the property where the dogs were dropped off,” added Davis.They said it was confirmed the dogs belonged to the Daniels family by relatives and neighbors.The homeowner lived nine miles away from the Daniels. More than a week later, the dogs, now named Joey and Clyde to honor the 5-year-old boy, have been doing better and hope to find a more permanent home soon. Davis said no one has claimed the dogs back. The body of Joe Clyde has not been found, but the search continued one week later.His father, Joseph Daniels, was charged with one count of criminal homicide after he confessed to allegedly beating his son to death and disposing of his body in a rural and remote location.His mother, Krystal Daniels, was later arrested for child neglect or endangerment after she admitted to being at the house when her son died and failed to report the abuse or alleged homicide despite multiple opportunities, according to court documents. Belle Daniels, Joe’s grandmother, told Scripps station WTVF in Nashville she does not know why her son would commit the alleged crime.Akhdary said she cannot help but feel uneasy of what could have gone on behind closed doors.“The parents did not take care of their kids. I don’t think they spent a lot of time taking good care of the dogs.”To help the shelter and donate to the dogs’ cause, visit the Humane Society of Dickson County online.WTVF stopped at the family's house this week, but they declined to do an interview. 2442

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — The City of El Cajon has become a home away from home for many Chaldeans.They are a Catholic- Christian community who migrated to the U.S. from northern Iraq. El Cajon has the second largest number of Chaldean residents in the country."We as Chaldeans believe in the hope, and the resurrection, and the hope of what Jesus gives us," says Father Daniel Shaba.The church is the center of the Chaldean community in El Cajon. Hundreds of people gather at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral for services each day.Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonMany Chaldean families left their home country of Iraq searching for a better life, after decades of war and violence against Christians and the church."We all share the same story of leaving and fleeing this persecution in Iraq," says Shaba. He says his family stayed in Greece before being cleared to come to the U.S. in 1994.According to the church, the first known Chaldean migrant came to San Diego in 1951. Within 30 years, the population grew to approximately 2,500. Today, nearly 40,000 Chaldean families have made El Cajon their home."The best part of El Cajon is the community," says doctor John Kasawa.Kasawa sees 15 to 20 patients a day, many of whom are Chaldean. Kasawa says he's one of few Chaldean doctors born in the U.S. He practices holistic and western medicine. Kasawa says his culture sparked his interest in becoming a doctor."They planted the seeds of how natural foods and drinking can have a very beneficial effect on longevity and really quality of life," Kasawa said.Detective Louie Michael, with the El Cajon Police Department, says he's grateful for his parents' bravery."At age 5, my dad was in the military, under that regime, and then we escaped from Iraq to turkey in a refugee camp and then came here at the end of '93," says Michael.He has been with El Cajon Police Department for more than ten years."I looked at the benefit of having a community that has nobody that they can speak to," says Michael. "For ten years, I was the only cop in the department that spoke Arabic and Aramaic."With Michael's help, the department now has five Chaldean officers on the force.
