 BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has issued a notice ordering all members of the PLA and the Chinese People's Armed Police Corps (PAPC) to study a recent instruction on value made byHu Jintao, chairman of the Central Military Commission.     Addressing a recent military conference, Hu urged servicemen to strengthen their spiritual pillar and foster the core value of "Beloyal to the Party, love the people, serve the nation, be devoted to the mission, and worship credit."     Hu's instruction has put forward a major strategic task for ideological and political building of the Army under the new historic conditions, said the notice. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vice-Premier Li Keqiang visited the 2008 China Beijing International Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Exhibition on Monday.     Li, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, spoke highly of the achievements made by the country and the national capital in terms of energy efficiency and pollution reduction.     LI said China has large potential in the resources and environmental sector and it should focus on energy efficiency and environmental protection. BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has called on Chinese women to make more contributions to the country.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark on Saturday when he met with the newly elected leaders of the All-China Women's Federation and some delegates to the 10th National Women's Congress.     Hu said Chinese women have made extraordinary contributions to the progress of the nation's civilization and economic growth, from the revolutionary wartime to the current socialist construction and reform.     The President said Chinese women deserved the title of "half of the sky", which means women could play an equal part as men in society.     Hu Jintao called on the Chinese women to make more contributions to the country's economic, social and cultural constructions and pursue scientific methods of education to cultivate their children.     Women should also strive to create a harmonious family environment to make contributions to the stability and harmony of the whole society, he said.     The President also urged female leaders and women's organizations at all levels to pay more attention to women's interests, and make all-out effort to serve them.     The Party organs at all levels should be fully aware of the great importance of women's roles and thoroughly carry out the country's policy of gender equality by creating more opportunities for women.

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday outlined a series of proposals for local governments to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).     Touring SMEs in the southern province of Guangdong, Wen said SMEs would play a crucial role in promoting economic growth, increasing fiscal revenue, providing jobs and maintaining social stability. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (2nd L) inspects a medium-sized enterprise in Dongguan of south China's Guangdong Province, Nov. 14, 2008Wen visited SMEs in Shenzhen, Dongguan and Foshan cities, where he demanded local governments to readjust and improve policies to support the healthy and rapid growth of SMEs.     Measures should include easier access to credit extensions as well as preferential tax policies, and more loans to ensure SMEs grow faster in the fourth quarter.     Financing priority should be given to SMEs that met industrial and environmental protection standards and had technologies and markets, and should encourage firms to transform and restructure.     Wen said SMEs in Shenzhen performed better than those in other parts of the delta because they upgraded and innovated.     On Friday afternoon, while inspecting export-oriented, labor-intensive SMEs in Dongguan, he said the key to survival and growth was to develop new products, increase product ranges, improve quality and diversify markets.

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Diplomats of China and the United States on Friday met in Beijing to discuss issues concerning central and south Asia.     China's Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui and Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue respectively held consultations with U.S. Assistant Secretary for South Asian Affairs Richard Boucher, according to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.     The consultations went on under the framework of China-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which was initiated in 2005.     Both sides introduced their views and policy objectives on central and south Asia and pledged to continue consultations and coordination as a way of promoting peace, stability and development in those regions.
