(KGTV) - A Coronado police officer and four teens were injured after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a parked car Friday.Coronado Police received a report of a possible drunk driver at about 9:30 p.m. An officer in the area located the vehicle on Third Street and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, however, made an abrupt turn onto E Ave. and crashed into a parked vehicle, police said.Following the crash, several juveniles ran from the vehicle. The responding officer chased after the teenagers and found two nearby. They were brought to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.Two more passengers were found hiding near 4th St. and Alameda Blvd. They were also taken to a nearby hospital for injuries received in the crash, police said.Coronado Police said an officer was also injured responding to the incident.Police said several containers of beer, hard alcohol, and spray paint were found inside the vehicle. 984

CVS hears the Amazon footsteps -- and the pharmacy giant is wasting no time trying to get ahead of any Jeff Bezos plan to disrupt the drug store business the way that he has the rest of retail.CVS said Monday that it plans to offer next day delivery of prescription drugs nationwide in 2018. In some urban markets, CVS will even deliver on the same day.A program to deliver both medications and a select offering of other CVS products from the front of the store will begin in Manhattan on December 4.CVS CEO Larry Merlo made the announcements during the company's earnings conference call with analysts.The news comes just a few weeks after reports surfaced that Amazon had received wholesale pharmacy licenses in a dozen states.That move would potentially allow Amazon to sell prescription medications online.The speculation caused the shares of CVS and rival Walgreens to fall, as did pharmacy benefits manager company Express Scripts, a competitor of the CVS-owned PBM Caremark.The stocks of drug distributors Cardinal Health, AmerisourceBergen and McKesson all fell too.This is because investors are worried that Amazon, which is already changing the dynamics of the grocery business thanks to its acquisition of Whole Foods, may look to do the same for drug stores.But Merlo said during the call with analysts Monday that he still sees Amazon as more of a potential ally than threat."You would never close the door on any type of partnership," Merlo said, when asked by an analyst about possibly working with Amazon.Still, CVS seems to recognize that the health care landscape is changing rapidly, and it needs to adjust. Now, 14 years later, she could have a shot at getting out of prison.  Brown was convicted of murder after she shot and killed 43-year old realtor Johnny Allen in 2004. Her lawyers said she was a victim of sex trafficking.Now 30, Brown has a clemency hearing at 10 a.m. local time Wednesday. A state parole board will listen to her case and make a recommendation about whether to grant her clemency. The story sparked national outrage last year after several celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and Rihanna, posted Brown's story on Twitter and Instagram. Her attorneys said Brown had been forced into prostitution and that had Allen paid her for sex. 784

CLEVELAND, Ohio — People taking care of elderly loved ones who receive Social Security benefits may not know to what they are entitled."This money belongs to us...the social security recipient,” said Don Wright, who is nothing if not passionate about his mission now to help others.“It’s our money!” he said.Reporters with E.W. Scripps television station WEWS in Cleveland, asked Wright: “Do you think many people know about this?”“No. No. That is sad,” he replied.Wright is from Akron, Ohio. He was married to a woman for 16 years. They divorced and later she passed away.In 2009, Wright said he filed for his Social Security benefits, talking with a staff member at the Akron office."He said this famous statement. ‘Well, who do you want to collect your benefits from?’” Wright said. The man offered him either his own benefits or his ex-wife's benefits."What he should have said was 'Well, you know you're entitled to collect your survivor widower's benefits first,’" Wright said.It wasn't until 2016 when some friends told Wright to look into the survivor benefits."Social security, I found out in my investigation, does not willfully just hand out a bunch of information for you to know," Wright said.He told us from that first meeting with the Akron office in 2009 until 2016, he was entitled to 7 to 8 years of the survivor benefits and more. However, after fighting for that money, he got a message from an attorney's office on his answering machine saying he might get six months to a year of benefits."The average person would think Social Security said, 'You're done! There's no way in the world you can get anything else.’ Well, that's not true,” Wright said.Reporters at WEWS found in the social security Code of Federal Regulations, there's an admission that agents "may have given you misinformation about your eligibility for such benefits ... Which caused you not to file an application at that time." It even gives examples that are similar to Wright’s claims."You don't always get that correct answer right off (the bat),” said Marcia Margolius, who is an attorney and a social security law expert. She works in Cleveland."We have to encourage people continuously to persevere, to follow up on their rights,” Margolius said.Marcia said she's experienced plenty of social security roadblocks."It's a weeding out sort-of a policy where social security may take the attitude of, if you're serious and if your claim is legitimate, you're going to keep going," she said."Is it a strategy by social security?” a WEWS reporter asked.“I wouldn't go that far…but I have seen it a lot,” Margolius said.Wright said another hurdle was when social security gave him a list of lawyers to help him through the process. He wrote letters to those attorneys only to have many returned to sender. Colleges across the country are finalizing plans to welcome students back. Some are bringing students fully back on campus, while others are going completely digital. Regardless of what colleges decide, many students are still planning to live on or near campus."We've come up, we think, with a plan that provides a lot of flexibility in options and recognizes the difficulties and strengths that our students, faculty and staff are faced with in light of COVID-19," said Lisa Lynch, the Provost at Brandeis University just outside of Boston.Brandeis, like Harvard, Princeton, Georgetown and all California State universities, will be offering online classes to students in the fall to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. There will still be in-person classes at a majority of universities offering online courses.Harvard is allowing minimal in-person classes, while Princeton is only allowing first- and third-year students on campus for the first semester and second- and fourth-year students for the second semester.Brandeis is offering some hybrid classes that are half online and half in person with small groups, but class sizes will be dramatically reduced."A mix of taking some lectures that perhaps have been pre-recorded or even listening in through Zoom on a live lecture, but then having opportunities to have small, in-person meetings with other students and professors and teaching assistants," said Lynch.All in-person classes will have a maximum of 28 students. Despite the online offerings and class restrictions, university officials say most students are still making the decision to live at school, not take classes online while living at home. This begs the question – will the online classes even make a difference amid the current COVID-19 pandemic?"I think the real hard thing is where you share a dorm room. Two people in the same room is hard to social distance in any real respect, in that case. But if a lot of people are online and you only have one person per room, then you have an ability to have a little more social distancing," said Dr. Kenny Banh, an emergency physician and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at UCSF-Fresno.Brandeis is only allowing one person per dorm room and even reserving extra housing for students who may test positive for COVID-19 and need to quarantine while at school. It's one of numerous brand-new health and safety procedures being implemented at the school, which also include twice weekly free coronavirus tests for all students and staff."The testing - asymptomatic testing - is mandatory. We'll also have everyone when they come to campus do a daily health gestation test. It's a very quick online tool that goes through and asks about fever, how they're feeling, if they're a student. And if they answer a question and it raises a flag, they’ll be immediately directed to our health center," said Lynch.With all the precautions universities are taking, it'll still be tough to prevent the social interactions that students want and need."There's no control with off-campus living, obviously, and students unfortunately tend to congregate together because it's a cheaper cost of living, right? I was a poor college student, so you often share a space because that’s what you could afford and you're trying to tend for the lowest cost possible. Unfortunately, we’ve showed our ability to socially distance and self-isolate in the younger generation is not as good," said Banh.While colleges won't be able to prevent off-campus social gatherings, many acknowledge that most healthy students aren't at the highest risk for COVID-19 complications and that any forced isolation at this critical age of their emotional and social development could do more harm than good."Recognizing in surveys, we saw with our students, in particular with our students in the spring, the process of being at home and trying to continue with studies contributed to a significant increase in stress, depression and sense of isolation," said Lynch."I think universities are doing the best they can do to be responsible. I think having an online option and having a significant part of people online will actually mitigate the risk for those there in person. So, if you take half the people and half of them are not there, then social distancing and all that stuff becomes much safer, especially for those people that are physically there," said Banh.Brandeis is also using advanced contact tracing technology so that if and when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they're able to immediately determine all classmates, residential halls and more, that are affected.
