VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Michael Yager says he was outraged after learning his son, Jacob, bullied multiple classmates at New Smyrna Beach Middle School in Volusia County, Florida. "I figured I would teach him a lesson that would embarrass him and make him feel the way kids feel," he said.Wanting to teach his 13-year-old a lesson the frustrated father took an unorthodox approach. "I wrote the sign, I'm a bully. I had a good response from the neighborhood," Jacob's father said.But he acknowledged not everyone agrees with his parenting. "I had one woman come up and call me every name in the book. "How do you respond to parents who say putting your son out on the road is, in fact, bullying your own son?" he was asked."In my mind, I was doing the right thing, but I guess you cannot please everybody," Michael Yager said. A recent staggering statistic shows one out of every five students report being bullied. Jacob said he has learned a valuable lesson. "You never know what someone can be going through. (KGTV) -- The suspect deputies say broke into a Vista bike shop and stole more than ,400 worth of merchandise has been arrested.Ronald Gardner of Escondido was arrested on March 28 after deputies served a search warrant at his home.Gardner was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.Deputies also say three bicycles and some of the stolen sunglasses and bicycle parts were recovered and given back to the owner of the bike shop.RELATED: Vista bike shop targeted by thieves for the third time in six months?The owner of the “211 Bikes,” Jesse McCormack, found out that his shop had been burglarized after receiving a call from his security company.McCormack said this was the third time in six months the bike shop had been broken into. 874

WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she is receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer, but has no plans to retire from the Supreme Court. The 87-year-old Ginsburg said her treatment so far has succeeded in reducing lesions on her liver and that she will continue chemotherapy sessions every two weeks. She spent time in the hospital this week for a possible infection, but Ginsburg said it was unrelated to the cancer.Here is Friday's full statement as distributed by the court to several outlets, including CNN:"On May 19, I began a course of chemotherapy (gemcitabine) to treat a recurrence of cancer. A periodic scan in February followed by a biopsy revealed lesions on my liver. My recent hospitalizations to remove gall stones and treat an infection were unrelated to this recurrence.Immunotherapy first essayed proved unsuccessful. The chemotherapy course, however, is yielding positive results. Satisfied that my treatment course is now clear, I am providing this information.My most recent scan on July 7 indicated significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease. I am tolerating chemotherapy well and am encouraged by the success of my current treatment. I will continue bi-weekly chemotherapy to keep my cancer at bay, and am able to maintain an active daily routine. Throughout, I have kept up with opinion writing and all other Court work.I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. VISTA (CNS) - An ex-con who stole a car with a 6-month-old baby inside from an Escondido shopping center pleaded guilty to felony auto theft and was immediately sentenced to four years in state prison on Monday.Anthony Guerrero, 31, entered his change of plea during a hearing at the Vista courthouse. He also admitted that he was convicted of robbery in 2009 and 2015, said Deputy District Attorney Nicolette Estrada.Dispatchers received a call from the baby's mother at 10:06 p.m. on Dec. 4 saying that her Mercedes-Benz sedan was stolen from outside a 99 Cents Only store at the Civic Center Plaza Shopping Center on North Escondido Boulevard. She said her 6-month-old child was in the vehicle.A short time later, a police officer spotted the Mercedes in a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Escondido Boulevard, less than two miles from the shopping center where the car was taken, said Escondido police Sgt. Suzanne Baeder. As the officer approached, the suspect, later identified as Guerrero, got out of the car and ran.He was taken into custody after he crossed the street and the baby was found inside the car unharmed, Baeder said. 1153
