SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego is taking extra precautions with cruise lines amid heightened awareness surrounding the coronavirus.About 38 ships are expected to dock in San Diego through May, some shops that rely on travelers are concerned business may slow down if cruises are canceled.Some say they've already noticed a change.The Port of San Diego says they installed these hand washing stations once the coronavirus concerns started rising. "This is a tourist community, very much so."But recently Smart says she's noticed business is slowing down and concerns over the coronavirus might be to blame."As you can see it's kind of empty right now," Smart said. "Being that people try these on, I always spray them I disinfect them and this is the solution."Smart usually sees a boost in business when cruise ships dock in San Diego. "That's almost 0 million in economic impact to the region."Valenzuela says before boarding, passengers are screened and once off the ship, precautions are in place."We've done things such as increasing sanitation areas within the port facilities, as well as setting aside some prescreening and quarantine areas in case the cruise lines would need it," Valenzuela said.For Smart, she's just hoping more questions about the coronavirus will be answered and things can finally get back to what they once were."I don't know how bad it's gonna get, how good it's going to get but hopefully it passes," Valenzuela said.The Port says so far none of the cruises have been canceled, but that could change at any moment. 2671

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Secretary of the Interior stated in no uncertain terms in a letter sent to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Thursday federal law supersedes state law. This was in reference to an ordinance the San Diego County Board of Supervisors passed in November banning recreational shooting, saying it was unconstitutional.Currently the law states you can shoot at targets on BLM land, "as long as it is done in a safe manner, without damaging natural resources or improvements on public lands." There is a section that states you may not fire any plastic pellets, exploding, tracer or steel core rounds. This is to prevent wildfires.RELATED: San Diego County Board of Supervisors approves recreational shooting ban near DulzuraCounty Supervisor Diane Jacob said the goal of the ordinance was also to prevent wildfires, coming after the Gate Fire in May of 2017, sparked near an area known for target practice."She immediately blamed the fire on the shooting and she had no evidence," Executive Director of San Diego Gun Owners PAC Michael Schwartz said. He also said the board never spoke to the federal government."When he [the Secretary of the Interior] found out the entire department said no this isn’t something we’re going to stand by at all," Schwartz said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The wife of ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II has filed for divorce, months after the former footballer was convicted of rape.Janelle Winslow filed documents for divorce on Aug. 30 in San Diego, according to records. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million.
