(KGTV) — President Trump stood by his demands for border wall funding, following a meeting with Democratic leadership Friday, ensuring more debate into the weekend over .6 billion for his border wall to end the government shutdown.In a press conference, the president discussed his meeting, calling it productive and saying he believed progress with Democrats had been made. However, House Speaker told reporters outside the White House that, "We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the president."Here are six takeaways from President Trump's press conference:On the government shutdown...During his meeting with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, President Trump confirmed he said the government shutdown could last for months or even a year or longer."I don't think it will, but I am prepared," Trump told reporters. "I hope it doesn't go on even a few more days. It really could open very quickly."He added later that the government wouldn't reopen until the issue of border security and wall is solved. Trump added his demand for funding remained at .6 billion for the border wall.To federal workers affected by the shutdown...When asked of his response to federal workers that are not a part of the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump said the shutdown was necessary to "do what's right" and not address border security in pieces."We want to do what's right and we want to do it all at one time. We don't want to take it in pieces," Trump told reporters.The president went on to say he believed many of those workers affected would agree with closing the government over border funding."I really believe that these people ... agree with what we're doing," Trump said. "I think a lot of the people ... are wanting that to happen too. I really believe a lot of them want to see border security and they're willing to give it up."San Diego's border...President Trump said in "San Diego, and other areas of California, we just finished brand new walls ... and they wanted them badly." Trump added that California's leadership, specifically the governor position, "complains" and but wall construction was held anyway.He went on to say that the "brand new wall in San Diego" is "working really well."Continuing claims Mexico will pay for the wall...President Trump continued his claims that Mexico would pay for a border wall, saying the money saved in a renegotiated trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada would net more money than the border wall would cost."We will be making billions and billions of dollars a year ... and that is paying for the wall many, many times over," Trump said. "What we save on [the USMCA] just with Mexico will pay for the wall many times over just in the period of a year, two years, three years. I view that as absolutely Mexico is paying for the wall."Bypassing Congress for the wall...When asked about granting himself emergency powers to construct the wall, President Trump said he had already considered it, but want to negotiate with lawmakers first."Yes, I have. And I can do it if I want," Trump told a reporter. "We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it."On the border wall...President Trump said a team of people would work through the weekend to address border security, "the look" of the wall, and ports of entry. "I think they're going to be really successful. I found the Democrats really want to do something," Trump told reporters.Trump went on to deny previous assertions that the wall be made of concrete and touted possible steel construction, saying, "If I build a wall and the wall is made out of steel instead of concrete, I think people will like that." 2020 has proven to be a year to remember and museums want to make sure future generations will be able to see what we're living through right now.If you think about what you've seen and read about history, it's stories, often told through artifacts. At the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, research is always happening. In fact, Aaron Bryant, the museum's curator, says he's like the historical version of a news reporter.“We’re very much committed to, at our museum, committed to being a conduit for voices and we just provide a platform for people to share their stories,” said Bryant.And these days, there are so many stories to tell, as we watch history unfold before our eyes.“Our museum isn’t just about the past, it’s about the present moment and looking towards the future,” he said. “How does history help to inform where we are and where we hope to be for generations to come?”Bryant describes the museum as amazing. He and this team take pride in their ability to tell the American story through an African American lens.Right now, a lot of their artifact collection is happening in real time. That means they're having discussions with demonstrators, building relationships so they can collect and store memories and items.“A conversation with someone or a group of people and at the moment they decide to give something to you because they want it to be remembered and want their stories told,” said Bryant.They want people to be able to relate and connect to what they're collecting. And that means thinking about the ways in which people communicate.“How do we collect cell phone photographs as well as videos of people who are participating in demonstrations or are a part of some transformative event, how do we do that digitally?”That means they need to think about the technological format. What they feature in their museum and in their collections must last through the next 100 to 200 years.“Think about a document maybe 10 to 20 years ago. Would you be able to access that document today, floppy disks for example, so if we collect digitally what’s the best way to archive what would be an artifact and how would people access it in the future,” said Bryant.On their website, the museum states it is interested in gathering things related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the quarantine, the social protest movement for police reform and social justice. That could be something like a face mask that says, "I can't breathe," protest signs, and art.Bryant says, “I think some of the boards covering businesses and have murals painted by artists are really interesting because that speaks both to COVID. Businesses are closed because of COVID and then the artists come in and paint messages as well as other folks coming in and posting signs.”And he says, he wants an actual picture of the physical item for context.“Were people surrounding this artifact? Was it a place that folks congregated? Was it like the North Star of some of the demonstrations that attracted people to that site?”In the museum's collection, for example, there are placards carried at Black Lives Matter protests in Washington D.C. in 2014, the demonstrations for Michael Brown Junior, Eric Garner and Tamir Rice. There are also shoes, worn to a protest in Ferguson, Missouri.“One of the reasons we collect these objects is to preserve the memory and the human experience behind the artifact, why is the artifact important, what it represents, the humanity and human story behind the object.”If you have a story to tell, museums everywhere want to hear from you. (KGTV) -- Proposition 22 was approved by California voters on Tuesday, allowing app-based and delivery drivers to be classified as independent contractors.Under Prop. 22, workers would be guaranteed an hourly wage and sick leave.The proposition also states that drivers who work more than 15 hours per week would qualify for a monthly health insurance stipend, new medical and disability benefits if injured on the job, and new rules pertaining to rest periods, sexual harassment, and criminal background checks.Supporters say Prop. 22 protects app-based drivers’ choice to be independent contractors. The proposition is also endorsed by a majority of drivers, community members, and small business groups.Those opposed to Prop. 22 say a “no” vote stops companies from writing their own exemption to California law. Opponents also say the proposition denies drivers rights and safety protections.Proposition 22 was launched and partially funded by Lyft and Uber. Looking at delay times, commute, and amenities, the website considered San Diego the best thanks to its, "healthy dose of amenities, superior record of on-time flights and incredibly convenient location."San Diego Airport's 30-plus dining options, including favorites like Stone Brewing, Pannikin Coffee & Tea, and Phil's BBQ, boosted the location past last year's winner, Phoenix Sky Harbor, which was hit with a runway closing between January and February last year.RELATED: UC San Diego ranks among the best universities in the U.S., worldAccording to the FAA's latest data from 2017, San Diego International's average gate arrival delay was 3.7 minutes over an average of 807 flights in and out of the airport daily.
