A comparison of 30 back-to-school supplies found a wide price range between popular stores like Target, Walmart, King Soopers, Office Max, Safeway and Staples.The comparison, completed by UGrocery founder Eva Fry, found the same items at King Soopers are more than cheaper than at Staples. See the comparison here.Fry said this is her third year doing the price comparison and for the third year in a row, King Soopers was the cheapest."King Soopers, Walmart and Target were within 5 percent, within just a couple dollars," Fry said. "You may have a greater selection at Target and Walmart, but the prices were surprisingly really affordable at King Soopers. They put out a good sale promotion this time of year to lure customers in."If you're looking to save money, Fry says shop early in the morning for the best selection, stick to your shopping list and leave the kids at home."I've found throughout the years, with my three kids, if I take kids to the store with me, they get emotional about their purchases. They see cute folders with puppies and they want those," Fry said.She said leave kids at home, stick to the list and you'll save a lot of money.She also recommends using coupons from the Sunday inserts and coupons you can find on King Soopers' Clicklist and Target's Cartwheel app.Fry said you should also look for generic or store brands."The Avery binders, the three-ring binders, those are always more expensive. Those were .99 for a 1-inch binder at Target. The Up and Up brand, same binder in my opinion, was a .89. Why would I want to pay more for a binder?" She also said to wait on new school clothes until September."I find clothing goes on sale in September," Fry said. A man allegedly cut through a fence to escape a coronavirus isolation facility Friday in New Zealand. Officials say the man, only described as being in his 50s, apparently went to a liquor store before returning on his own to the facility.The man is now in police custody and is expected to appear in court, according to a statement from New Zealand Air Commodore Darryn Webb, Head of Managed Isolation and Quarantine.He said investigators believe the man cut through fence ties to break out of the facility around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, then returned about 30 minutes later. Authorities are checking CCTV footage to confirm the man’s movements during that time. It happened in the town of Hamilton, on the North Island of New Zealand.It appears the man visited a liquor store. Police have talked to the store, and no one entered it this morning until health officials confirmed it was safe to do so.“Managed isolation is a critical part in our defence against COVID-19, and it is up to each and every person entering this country to play their part and abide by the law,” Webb said.The man who escaped arrived from Sydney on July 1, and their first coronavirus test came back negative, according to Webb. However, he still must remain in isolation. Webb believes the health risk from this incident is very low.“We take any breach of the COVID-19 rules very seriously. Wilfully leaving our facilities will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will be taken,” Webb said.This comes just two days after another man escaped from a separate isolation facility in Auckland. This man, age 32, has tested positive for coronavirus. He was reportedly outside smoking a cigarette when he left the facility and visited a supermarket before returning.After that incident, Webb said fencing at all isolation facilities will be replaced with 6-foot-high fences.Travelers are being asked to isolate for at least 14 days in New Zealand, some must go to isolation facilities. 1976

A controversial sanctuary city bill will become law in Tennessee without Governor Bill Haslam's signature. State lawmakers overwhelmingly passed HB2315, which prohibits cities and counties from adopting policies that would protect undocumented immigrants from federal agents. Haslam said Monday that the bill has created a lot of unnecessary fear in the state and doesn’t change the way the state deals with federal immigration agencies. When was asked why he wouldn’t veto the bill, Haslam said it’s because it would just prolong the discussion, adding there aren't currently have any sanctuary cities in Tennessee. The so-called sanctuary city bill requires law enforcement officials to comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement rules, including detainer requests.   837

A federal jury in Oregon on Friday acquitted an FBI agent accused of lying to authorities about whether he opened fire during the fatal shooting of LaVoy Finicum, one of the leaders of the occupation of federal property in 2016.Agent W. Joseph Astarita was acquitted of making false statements and obstruction of justice, according to a statement from the US Attorney's Office in Portland.An attorney for Astarita, David Angeli, told CNN on Friday night that the defense emphasized during the trial there were no eyewitnesses who saw Astarita fire his weapon, and there was no ballistic evidence linking shots to his weapon."We are grateful to the men and women of the jury who saw through a case that never should have been brought," a statement from Angeli and fellow defense attorney Rob Cary said.The US Attorney's Office thanked the jury for its service. "Our system of justice relies on the absolute integrity of law enforcement officials at all levels of government," US Attorney Billy J. Williams said in a statement. A Florida mother says her daughter was denied lunch on the first day of school because she didn't have money to pay a 15 cent debt.Kimberly Aiken told WKMG-TV in Orlando that her daughter, a sophomore at University High School in Orange City, Florida, was told that she owed 15 cents when she went through the lunch line on the first day of school this week. When she told the cashier that she didn't have any money on her, the cashier allegedly threw the food away.Aiken's daughter did not eat anything for the rest of the school day.According to CBS News, Aiken signed her daughter up for a free and reduced-cost lunch program at University High School. However, the program hadn't taken effect yet. Aiken suspects that the 15 cent deficit was carried over from last year.A spokesperson for the Volusia County Public Schools said the district has contacted the family directly about the issue.Aiken's daughter reportedly brought a quarter to school the next day to cover the deficit and was told the shortage had been taken care of.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W.
