Over 100 Palestinian demonstrators have been killed and some 12,000 wounded by the Israeli forces since the new round of anti-occupation protests in Gaza began on March 30, among which at least 60 Palestinians were killed in just one day of May 14 when the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem officially opened despite international criticism.
In his welcome remarks, Secretary-General of ASEAN Lim Jock Hoi thanked Premier Li for his visit to the ASEAN Secretariat and his attendance at the Launching Ceremony of the 15th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership.
The initiative "has renewed Europe's interest in China, and is seen as an opportunity to have more connectivity, more access to markets in one direction and another, more openness, and also to have a more balanced relationship," the diplomat said.
"I believe that all the efforts that we are making together will be highly beneficial to our cooperation, to all Member States of the United Nations, and to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals," she said.
It is the second major diplomatic event China is going to host in 2018, following the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference in April.
