SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s newest ride is shut down for maintenance, according to Cal/OSHA.According to the agency, Tidal Twister was shut down June 1, roughly two weeks after its opening on May 24. The ride was shut down to address mechanical issues. Cal/OSHA says SeaWorld is working with the manufacturer to repair the ride. RELATED: SeaWorld unveils Tidal Twister thrill ride at San Diego parkOnce the ride is ready to reopen, an inspection will have to be done by Cal/OSHA to ensure it can be operated safely. The ride recently opened as SeaWorld works to complete more rides in the San Diego park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Arts Park @ Chollas Creek has been helping young people for almost 20 years now."The reason this place was started was there was a lot of vandalism in the community. I was part of the problem then, I consider myself part of the solution," said Jose Venegas, a co-founder, and Program Coordinator at Writerz Blok. During his teenage years, Venegas turned to graffiti. "It was that or gang bang really, to be honest, I grew up in a neighborhood where there was a lot of gang activity, a lot of drugs."A twist of fate led his friends to tag a vacant property in Southeast San Diego owned by the Jacobs Center. Rather than make the teens someone else's problem, the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation embraced them, donating the space and funding materials. "We encounter a lot of youth who show artistic expression but have never had a mentor or seen professional artists doing murals, graffiti," said Bennett Peji, Vice President of Impact and Partnership for the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. Their mission is to foster a thriving community envisioned and realized by its residents.“The identify of a place should really reflect the the community that lives there but that’s not often the case," said Peji. Jacobs Center donated the property and funded materials to make the Arts Park a reality. Writerz Blok artists have able to help hundreds of teens and they now do workshops in high schools as well as the East Mesa Juvenile Detention Center."It's a very soothing feeling, it's like therapy," said Venegas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council unanimously approved several measures Tuesday they hope will make it easier for businesses to stay open amid the coronavirus pandemic.The first measure cements Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s executive order allowing some businesses to operate outdoors.The measure allows gyms, barber shops, churches and nail salons to expand business to private parking lots, sidewalks, and on-street parking.“Employees can return to work and families can again participate in programs and support our businesses, if they so desire,” said City Councilmember Chris Cate.Businesses will need to apply for a permit to operate outside, the city says.The second measure reallocates 0,000 from the city’s Small Business Relief Fund toward helping businesses in underserved communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting Monday, CVS Pharmacy will begin giving COVID-19 vaccines to staff and residents at California's long term care facilities. On Dec. 18, the first shot was given by a CVS employee at a nursing home in Connecticut."We'll be putting 9,000 vaccinators on the road to give those vaccines across the country," Jonathan Roberts, Vice President of CVS Health, said then.Ten days later, CVS pharmacy will begin its 12-week vaccination program at California's skilled nursing facilities and assisted living centers. The company expects to give the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to around 700,000 people at 15,000 facilities across the state."Retail pharmacies are the foundation of the approach here, both because we are convenient and we're everywhere," Dr. Troy Brennan, Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health, said.Earlier this month, the federal government awarded Walgreens and CVS contracts to roll out the vaccines because of already existing infrastructure and staff. CVS vaccinators will visit each facility at least three times for boosters and check-ups within the 12-week rotation.After this initial phase, CVS executives say they will move onto the next tier of priority recipients, which includes essential workers, older Americans, and those with chronic illnesses."We have the best chance of being able to reach the public, and the public likes that approach," Dr. Brennan said.Both pharmacies already use their websites and apps, where people can make COVID testing appointments.
