(CNN) -- The Bay Area has many murals, with images of everyone from Robin Williams to Nipsey Hussle gracing its buildings.Now, there's a new name to add to that list: Greta Thunberg.A mural of the Swedish teenage climate activist, whose movement has caught the attention of the world, is set to be completed next Tuesday.Located in downtown San Francisco near Union Square (420 Mason St., for all you locals), the mural features Thunberg from the chest up — gazing straight into our souls, lips pursed.It's enough to make anyone stop and consider their environmental impact.And that's kind of the point, said Paul Scott, executive director of OneAtmosphere.org — the nonprofit that's funding the project.The organization wanted to focus on art celebrating climate activists, Scott told CNN. When brainstorming people to feature, Thunberg was the first person that came to mind."If we can amplify her message and get more people involved and listening to what she's saying, then we're doing some good," he said.The overall feedback has been incredibly positive, he said. But the most critical reactions have been from those who haven't recognized her."They're struck by the image and want to learn more," he said. "If they take the time to learn more about what she's trying to share, that I think has an impact on most people. Makes them want to help."Andrés Petreselli is the artist behind the mural. He also did the city's Robin Williams one, which is how Scott found his work.Petreselli is donating his time to the cause and told CNN he feels connected to everything Thunberg is doing. She sets examples for the whole world, he said."We're pretty much at the beginning of our extinction, so if we don't do anything right now, it's going to be too late," he said.It's not the first mural to the young activistThunberg and her message have inspired murals around the world. One in Bristol, England, featuring the activist partly underwater went up earlier this year, along with another one in Canada.Not everyone has been eager to hear her message. The mural in Canada, painted on a "free wall" along a bike path, was defaced twice shortly after it was first created, according to CNN affiliate CBC.The adversity hasn't stopped Thunberg, though.She is best known for her climate strikes, which she began in 2018 outside the Swedish Parliament. Her protest inspired thousands of students around the world to walk out of class and demand action on the climate crisis.She hasn't slowed down. She's spoken to everyone from the United Nations to the US Congress -- and even former President Barack Obama -- about the climate crisis."As it is now, people in general don't seem to be very aware of the actual science and how serious this crisis is," she said in September during a congressional hearing. (KGTV) - A former Veterans of Foreign Wars official is in custody in Bakersfield on suspicion of sex crimes which alleged victims say started in San Diego. Timothy Machin, 51, was arrested on July 2 and is currently being held on ,000,000 bail. The VFW confirmed to Scripps affiliate KERO that Machin was the commander of VFW Post 97 in Bakersfield. According to the police report, one person estimated that Machin had sex with her "almost 1,700 times." There are also multiple victims, according to the report. Child Protetctive Services was called by one of the alleged victims on July 1. CPS contacted Bakersfield Police on the same day to report the allegations. One alleged victim told Bakersfield Police that Machin forced her to perform oral sex on him during some of the encounters. The same person someone walked into the room one time when Machin was having sex with her. The alleged victim said Machin and the other person argued, but nothing happened beyond the argument, according to the documents. The accusers told investigators that the abuse started when Machin lived in San Diego. Machin moved to Bakersfield from San Diego in 2009. One alleged victim told police she didn't come forward sooner because previous reports of abuse went unheeded and she thought reporting the "incident would be meaningless." Machin resigned the position of commander July 10, according to Wayne Wright, who has taken over command of the post. He added that Machin is still a member of the VFW Post. Wright declined to comment on the allegations because it is an active investigation. Wright said the commander position is the top-ranking official at a VFW Post. Machin was arraigned on Friday, July 5, and pleaded not guilty. He's been charged with two counts of incest and three counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. (KGTV and AP) -- California's governor says the three American flight crew members who died when their aerial water tanker crashed while battling wildfires in southeastern Australia were part of a crew on a California-based tanker. 10News also learned that the same plane that crashed was stationed in Ramona last August. Gov. Gavin Newsom, in a statement on Thursday, did not identify the crew members but called them heroes. The premier of Australia's New South Wales state confirmed the crash deaths in the Snowy Monaro region as Australia attempts to deal with an unprecedented fire season that has left a large swath of destruction. Canada-based Coulson Aviation says one of its Lockheed large air tankers was lost after it left Richmond in New South Wales with retardant for a firebombing mission. In a press release, Coulson Aviation identified the crew members as Capt. Ian H. McBeth, 44, of Great Falls, Mont.; First Officer Paul Clyde Hudson, 42, of Buckeye, Ariz.; and First Engineer Rick A. DeMorgan, Jr., 43, of Navarre, Fla.When CAL FIRE's Thomas Shoots heard about the fiery crash in Australia, he said he felt a gut punch. "Whether it's out in Australia or here in California, it really hits home," Shoots said. When Shoots found out it was the exact plane that was stationed in Ramona last August, he said it added to the devastation. "We brought them on with the plane and the crew, to get our pilots trained up so that we are ready to make a smooth transition to the Calfire C-130s starting next year," Shoots said. In mid-2021, CAL FIRE San Diego is slated to get its own C-130 aircraft added to their fire fighting arsenal. Its larger frame has a 4,000-gallon load, as opposed to current ones that can drop 1,200 gallons at a time. But before it gets here, CAL FIRE contracted with Coulson Aviation, to train its aviators. In the one month Coulson was in San Diego County, Shoots said they not only taught their personnel but also flew over and fought active fires. "They did an excellent job. The pilots with Coulson are bar none, and they were really a huge resource for us."Australian officials have not released the names of the fallen American firefighters. But they do say they are highly experienced, and they have a long-standing relationship with the company. "Our hearts are with all those that are suffering what is the loss of three remarkable, well-respected crew, that have invested so many decades of their life in fire fighting and fire management," NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons said. CAL FIRE San Diego does not know if the same crew that trained their firefighters were the ones who died in Australia. Either way, they said this is a heavy loss. 2719
