Part of that deal landed him back in jail this week for driving without a license and being too close to a school."Just listen to the judge and do what you have to do to stay out of prison," Pollack said. "Stay away from schools."Pollack said his main concern right now is making schools safer, and having Zachary Cruz close to schools makes people understandably nervous."Look at the damage that’s been done in the community," he said.Prosecutors dropped the school proximity portion of Cruz's probation violation during a hearing Thursday because he was driving past a Lake Worth high school, not actually on the school's campus.Cruz's lawyer said Broward County Sheriff's Office deputies came into Palm Beach County to follow Cruz after his caretaker reported to them he was driving without a license. They saw him driving near Park Vista Community High School, went back to Broward County to get arrest affidavits and then contacted Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to arrest Cruz. 2804

While there are still questions about whether trick-or-treating will happen in 2020 and how neighborhoods will make it possible, there is no question Americans like their Halloween candy.Sales of Halloween candy and chocolate at grocery stores are up 17 percent over 2019 so far this season, according to the National Confectioners Association. Total sales, including online purchases, is up 13 percent year-over-year.The National Confectioners Association, NCA, represents manufacturers and suppliers of sweet treats, gum, mints and chocolates.Their research showed chocolate is driving the increase. Halloween chocolate sales are up 25 percent over 2019 so far. The NCA released data over the summer showing chocolate was the treat of choice of Americans during the pandemic, with sales increasing five percent March through August over the same time period in 2019. Sales of premium chocolate during that time was up 12 percent year-over-year. Ferrara Candy, which makes Sweetarts, Nerds, Brach’s Candy Corn, Gobstoppers and more, said Halloween sales bring in about .5 billion in sales. In an interview with Axios, CEO Todd Siwak said their company learned a lot from the drop in sales for Easter. This was also the time many stores were closing because of lockdowns to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Even as shopping has picked up a little, they have made some changes.“As the frequency in-store is reduced by the shopper, so fewer trips but bigger baskets, we wanted to make sure we were there presenting the opportunity to consumers,” Siwak said. He added Ferrara Candy created more individually-wrapped confections and got product to stores earlier to extend the selling season.There are still about three weeks until Halloween, and the industry expects sales to increase. Siwak says about 60 percent of the sales for Halloween candy happen in the last few weeks before the holiday.The NCA data also suggested Americans are getting more excited for Halloween in 2020. WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A man who was in jail awaiting trial for charges of sexually assaulting a child was released after his parents won the lottery and he posted a 0,000 bond.Jason Carlile is the 47-year-old suspect's name, and he is out from behind bars with an ankle bracelet for monitoring by authorities as well as a curfew. Carlile is the same man who was convicted in 2007 of buying a 15-year-old girl from the girl's mother. He served a three-year sentence.The girl's mother was also given a prison sentence in the incident, KFDX reports.Carlile's mother and stepdad won million in the Oct. 31 Lotto Texas drawing. It was purchased at a Fill and Chill store.The Times Record News reports Carlile has a history of sex crimes involving children.In 1994, there was an arrest warrant for him for exposing the genitals of another adult to a child and recording it.  914

It's a spinoff from his Band In A Bus program.“We believe it’s like giving away a box of joy,” said Rose.With more and more questions about what classes and extracurriculars will look like as the coronavirus pandemic continues, Band In A Bus is changing its approach to hand out recorders and drum sticks to as many kids as possible.“The least we can do in these trying times is help kids feel some type of happiness and excitement every day,” Rose said. "That’s kind of why we’re trying to pilot this program.”Band In A Bus says budget cuts due to the coronavirus are forcing some schools to cut back music programs even more, which makes these free boxes even more important for kids.“The worst thing that we can do to a kid is strip them of this creative outlet,” Rose said. “As a growing young person, the most valuable thing is learning who you are and your tone of voice.”The Band in a Box program has enough money to help about 500 kids, but it is raising more money to try to impact as many families as possible.“That’s the experience that every kid can kind of relate to – that excitement, that fun,” Rose said. “You could see their smiles as they were drumming.
