BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- China values its traditional friendship with Zimbabwe and hopes to push forward relations between the two countries as well as the two armed forces, said Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie here on Sunday.Liang made the remarks in a meeting with Zimbabwean Commander of Defence Forces Constantine Guveya Chiwenga.Liang hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries. He spoke of Zimbabwe's defence forces as a "good friend and partner" of People's Liberation Army (PLA).Since the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic ties 30 years ago, cooperation between the two nations had continuously deepened in the areas of politics, economics and trade, culture, education and health, Liang said.China expressed appreciation for Zimbabwe's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's peaceful reunification, said Liang. He also thanked Zimbabwe for support on issues concerning China's core and major interests.Chiwenga expressed appreciation for China's long-standing support to Zimbabwe in various areas. He reaffirmed that his country would continue to stick to the one-China policy and was willing to further enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces.He also said Zimbabwe attached great importance to cooperation with China, and hoped to strengthen friendly cooperation with China within the framework of China-Africa Cooperation Forum.Earlier Sunday, Chiwenga also met with Chief of the General Staff of the PLA Chen Bingde.

Ltd. The 42-year-old company is one of China's top five truck producers.Wen inspected an assembly line that produces a heavy truck every six minutes. He also talked with workers and fitted wheels to a tractor truck under the workers' direction."We must maintain the continuity and stability of macro-economic policies to ensure favorable external conditions for enterprises. But a company's growth ultimately relies on its inner drive. Companies should improve quality, develop new products and expand their market," he said.Wen also visited Shaanxi Huasheng (Group) Corp. Fruit Co. Ltd., a high-tech agriculture company in the apple industry. The company has production bases in more than 20 counties."The global economy is recovering, but at a slow pace. There are many uncertainties. We should expand domestic demand while stabilizing overseas demand," he said."Only through sound and relatively fast economic growth can we ensure employment and facilitate the restructuring of the economic development mode," he said.Wen also visited the Sixth Research Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and the Northwest Institute for Non-ferrous Metals Research."The world is experiencing a technological revolution and one of its key fields is materials technology. BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China official Monday said China is ready to enhance cooperation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea, which was led by Kim Chang Ryong, the DPRK's Minister of Land and Environment Protection, in Beijing.Hailing the constant growth of China-DPRK relations, Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the successful visit by the DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il in May.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kim Jong Il reached important consensus on promoting bilateral pragmatic cooperation during that visit.China would work with the DPRK to fulfill the consensus and expand bilateral cooperation to push forward China-DPRK relations, Li said.Kim Chang Ryong said the DPRK held the unswerving policy of cementing and promoting friendship with China. The DPRK would work with China to enhance ties in accordance with the willingness of top leaders from both sides.The DPRK delegation is in China on a visit from June 12 to 22 at the invitation of the CPC. BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese government official has called for more efforts to promote increased awareness about energy-savings among the public and increase investments into research for energy-saving technologies.Vice Premier Li Keqiang made the remark in his letter to sponsors of China's 20th national energy-saving publicity week (June 12 to June 18) that ended on Friday.Various campaigns and promotional activities were held during the week to increase awareness about conserving energy among all communities and also promote energy-saving practices, Li said in the letter.Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said government should put more investment into research for energy-saving technologies.Additionally, long-term mechanisms for energy-savings should be established so that the 11th Five-Year Plan energy-saving goals could be realized, Li said.China seeks to reduce energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) by 20 percent in 2010 compared to 2005 levels, according to the country's 11th five-year plan (2006-2010).The 20th national energy-saving publicity week was sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission and 13 other government agencies.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 19 (Xinhua)-- More than 1,700 mudslide evacuees presently residing at schools in Zhouqu county of northwest China's Gansu Province are to be relocated as students will start the new semester soon, local authorities said Thursday.More than 400 households, altogether over 1,700 people, will be moved to Shachuan Village, in western of the mudslides-leveled county, said Yang Jianguo, head of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture which administers Zhouqu.The people are now living in dormitories and classrooms of three local schools, namely No.1 High School, No.1 Junior High and No. 3 Junior High. With students coming back from their summer vacation, the schools could no longer be used as settlement areas.More than one thousand tents will be erected at the new settlement zone covering an area of 67 mu (4.5 hectares), with three tents for each family, said Yang."They probably will have to spend the winter there so winter tents will be used," said Yang.The devastating mudslides which hit on Aug. 8 have claimed 1,364 lives with 401 people still missing as of 4 p.m. Thursday.Work crews will level the ground, ensure water and electricity supply and build lavatories from Aug. 21 to 23. They will start setting up tents on Aug. 24, said Yang.The new semester for junior school students and pupils will begin on Aug. 25 and senior high students will be transferred to other cities in the province, and start the new semester in early September.
