Prosecutors have charged a West Seneca, New York, man with criminally negligent homicide after a dispute over wearing a face covering left an 80-year-old man dead.Donald Lewinski, 65 of West Seneca, was taken into custody Monday following an incident September 26 at Pamp's Red Zone Bar and Grill.According to Erie County District Attorney John Flynn, Lewinski got into a verbal confrontation with Rocco Sapienza - another regular at the bar - after Sapienza noticed Lewinski was not wearing a mask while bringing buckets of beer to a band playing outside.At one point, Flynn said Sapienza got up and confronted Lewinski. That's when Lewinski stood up and pushed Sapienza "hard" with both hands, the D.A. said. Sapienza fell back and hit his head on the ground. Sapienza was taken to Erie County Medical Center in nearby Buffalo, where he was unresponsive for four days. He died on September 30.The cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head, authorities said.The owner of Pamp's Red Zone released this statement:"We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Rocco. He was a part of our Red Zone family and loved by all. BILOXI, Miss. – In the lobby of one Mississippi hotel, people aren’t the only ones checking in and out – so are the dogs. “They see that cage. They're like, ‘What is it?’” said the hotel’s director of sales, Teresa Johnston. The gazebo-like kennel is the temporary home for Basil, a 6-month-old terrier mix up for adoption from a local shelter and ready for checkout in the hotel’s lobby. “The guest just gives us their room number and the sweet little puppy goes up,” Johnston said. If the guest wants to adopt them, the dog goes home with them upon checkout. It’s part of a partnership between this Home2 Suites hotel near Biloxi, and the Humane Society of South Mississippi. The idea is Johnston’s brainchild. “It's that simple,” she said. “And they've given us the ability to adopt right from the property.” The hotel hosts one shelter dog at a time; all are already spayed and neutered. It’s an out-of-the box effort to try to bring down overcrowding at the local animal shelter. “We have to go out into our community and get a little bit more involved in ways that people wouldn't really associate an animal shelter with,” said Bianca Janik, with the Humane Society of South Mississippi. “And so that's a big part of why this program is so successful, is because they don't expect to see a shelter dog.” Since the program began late last year, more than 30 dogs have been adopted at the hotel by people who fell for those puppy dog eyes. Prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old from Illinois in the fatal shooting of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the wounding of a third. Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley filed the charges against Kyle Rittenhouse Thursday afternoon. The charges include one count of first-degree intentional homicide; one count of first-degree reckless homicide; one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide; two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment. All those charges are felonies. He could face a mandatory life sentence if convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, the most serious crime in Wisconsin. She says the calling to create came to her in a dream."Something woke me up and it was like September 3rd, on your way home, out of your name into your color," she described. So Karen says she wrote down the dream in her phone. "One one of the things I thought about is how can I help others with my art ," said Freidt.After battling pneumonia and being confined to her home during COVID-19 she whipped up a few the tasty treats and posted the edible art on Facebook."The first two pies I posted on Facbeook went viral within a couple days," she said. Within a few days her creative crusts grabbed the attention of Anna Sui, one of New York City's most recognized fashion designers."First thing I said, was how can I confirm this is really you," she stated. "I found out she wanted to use the pies in New York Spring Fashion Week."It took Freidt more than 15 hours to make the pie fashions now garnering national attention."She used the pies prominently in her media, I was shocked," she said. But Freidt hasn't forgotten those here at home.
