JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) — Hidden deep in the East County is a little-known winter wonderland. The centerpiece is a remarkable treehouse designed with a Christmas theme. It was built in 2013 in the yard of the Wellington family's Jamul yard for the Animal Planet television show "Treehouse Masters." The Wellington's daughter had heard of the show and suggested her parents apply. So she had to wait quite a few years to get her treehouse," Kathie Wellington told 10News.Originally, Kathie planned to use the home for her grandchildren and as a fun meeting spot for an organization dear to her heart: FORBS (Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santas). Each year, FORBS chooses around a dozen San Diego families who are down on their luck and provide Christmas presents, each delivered on Christmas day by a Santa. The Wellington's and their daughter, Vikki, came up with the idea of using the treehouse as a fundraiser. One weekend each December, they open up the treehouse for family pictures. The fee includes professional photographs, a real bearded Santa, cookies, hot cocoa, and craft activities. Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin on April 26 signed House Bill 528, which makes Kentucky the first state in the country to establish a blanket presumption "that joint custody and equally shared parenting time is in the best interest of the child" in every divorce case."This should lead to less fighting between parents because we're not pitting parents against parents anymore in a winner-take-all situation," National Parents Organization Kentucky chairman Matt Hale said. "We think that'll lead to less parenting conflict and better outcomes for children."The law includes provisions to disqualify unfit parents based on histories of domestic violence or significant mental health problems as well as physical distance that would make co-parenting impractical.In general, Hale said, the new law will ensure children don't automatically "lose" a parent to divorce and parents' relationships after divorce don't have to become hostile over custody issues."What kid wouldn't want both of their parents in their life?" divorced mother Alexandra Beckman said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A woman was shot and killed about 3:30 Saturday morning in Kansas City, Missouri. Police responded to an ambulance call and discovered a woman shot. Kindrea Brown, 24 was found shot to death in her own bed.Janet Brown says she heard gunfire late Friday night but went to bed shortly thereafter. She had no idea that her youngest daughter, who was asleep in her bed, had been shot."I heard gunshots. That's all I heard. We checked and laid back down." said Brown.Brown went to her daughter's room Saturday morning to wake her up for work. "I get her up every morning and mess with her before she goes to work. I went back to wake her up and she didn't wake up. I couldn't get her up. She didn't respond to me anymore." said Brown.No other information has been released. KILLEEN, Texas - Homicide detectives in Killeen say they have arrested a Fort Hood soldier in connection to the 2019 homicide of 32-year-old Chelsea Cheatham.According to a police news report, Grafton was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder.Back on June 3, 2019, the Killeen Police Department responded to the Days Inn Hotel in Killeen, where they located the victim, 32-year-old Cheatham. On September 2, 2020, the Texas Rangers informed KPD about the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Program and the possibility of utilizing advanced DNA testing to help solve this case.After reviewing the investigation, the Texas Rangers and KPD identified 20-year-old Cory Grafton, a soldier from Fort Hood, as a possible suspect.Investigators interviewed Grafton about Cheatham’s death and collected a sample of his DNA. One of Grafton’s co-workers provided a statement to police that Grafton confessed to him about killing Cheatham.Investigators expedited the DNA test on Grafton’s sample, and on Nov. 3, the test results confirmed Grafton’s DNA matched the DNA found at the crime scene.
