DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)-- After a nine-month hiatus, the controversial Crossroads of the West Gun Show is back at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend. Dozens of people returned to Jimmy Durante Road with their picket signs Saturday morning to protest the gun show. Many did not think they would be there again."We thought we already had this issue decided," Rose Ann Sharp said. The founder of the website "neveragainca.org" organized the protest after the gun show temporarily was reinstated. Last September, protesters convinced the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors to suspend the gun show, but a judge's ruling this past June allowed the event to return."I feel really good that the court found it in our favor," California Rifle and Pistol Association Executive Director, Rick Travis said. "What that does is it protects San Diegans' and Californians' first amendment rights."In response, State Legislators passed AB893. The bill bans the sale of guns and ammunition, specifically at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, starting in 2021. 10News met several teenagers who joined the protest. 16-year-old Daphne Porras said she came to the rally because she was scared. At Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley, she said lockdown drills are the new norm. "Unfortunately, it is a realistic possibility," Porras said. "I feel like our generation has almost gotten used to it."Her friend Robbie Glatts echoed her sentiments. "I don't like going to school scared anymore," Glatts said. "I don't like making plans on where I'm going to go. I have a plan for every single class. I have items like, 'oh there's textbooks over there that I could throw.'"They said that is why they are supporting AB893. "This isn't about first or second amendment rights," Sharp said. "This is about commerce, and the State has the authority to decide what business it will conduct on state-owned property."Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 13, 2019, to sign or veto the legislation. DENVER — Footage from a Ring Bell camera shows a runaway UPS truck careening backward down a street in a Denver neighborhood, and smashing into several parked vehicles.Erika Gaum said she was in her front yard with her young son cleaning out flowerbeds a few minutes before the crash happened on Dec. 2."I had just gone in to put him down for his nap," she said. "About 10 minutes later, I heard this massive explosion."Gaum said she peeked out the front door and saw a UPS truck pushed up against the neighbor's cars.Moments later, another neighbor came out and told her the UPS truck had sideswiped the Gaum's tow truck and trailer, too."After it hit the trailer, it kind of skidded along and then hit the fender and ripped the tire and bent the rim," she said.Gaum added that the impact knocked out rivets, busted a mirror, flattened two tires and knocked out a headlight.The UPS truck then slammed into three parked cars, one of them a Ford Taurus.Gabriela Agustin-Sanchez said her dad had put a lot of hard work and hard-earned cash into fixing up the Taurus."Cars are his passion. He's always working on cars, but that one was one of his most prized possessions, and he was very proud of it," she said.The back of that Taurus is now a crumpled heap of metal, rubber and plastic.According to the police report, the UPS driver, 21-year old Sagar Garung, said he was stopped to make a delivery and when he jumped back in and attempted to start the truck, it failed to start."Then it jumped out of gear and traveled southbound in reverse, at an unknown rate of speed, and collided with (Gaum's truck and the three cars,)" the report stated.Gaum said she and her husband own an auto shop."We're heading into the holidays and this is our work truck, so we kind of need some action," she said.Gaum added that she reached out to UPS several days in a row, to ask about the status of their damage claim, and each time was told "somebody will contact you by the end of the day.""That has yet to happen," she said.KMGH reached out to UPS to ask if there was an issue with the brakes, if the driver is still working for UPS, if there was another person on board the UPS truck, why the delay in reaching out to the victims and if UPS will be taking care of the damage.Matthew O'Connor, the senior manager of media relations, sent an email stating: "We’re thankful that everyone is safe. UPS’s highest priority is the safety of our employees and the communities we serve. Data shows the number of prison inmates testing positive for the coronavirus soared well past the 50,000 mark this week. The increase is a sign that recent outbreaks are threatening to undo control measures put in place earlier in the pandemic. At the end of June, the total number of coronavirus cases among prisoners had reached at least 52,649, an increase of 8% from the week before. That's according to data compiled by the Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization focusing on criminal justice, and The Associated Press. DENVER, Colo. -- President Trump recently approved changes to the Paycheck Protection Program to give small business owners more opportunities to qualify for loan forgiveness. Some owners say even with the changes, it’s still a long process to get their PPP loan forgiven.Gail Lindley is the 3rd generation in her family to run the Denver Bookbinding Company. “It’s more than a business, it’s truly our life blood,” Lindley said.The 91-year-old company received a Paycheck Protection Program loan that helped Lindley keep the lights on and employees working on the limited orders coming in.Now, Lindley is worried about the extensive requirements to make sure her loan is forgiven.“The bank told us, ‘You really need to document well,’” said Lindley.The PPP loan forgiveness application is 11 pages long and requires companies to document all spending on payroll, rent and utilities. Changes to the act were signed into law by President Trump on June 5. Companies must still prove they’ve retained workers and kept wages the same to earn full loan forgiveness.Consumer Bankers Association CEO, Richard Hunt, said documenting this is an unnecessary burden for small business owners.“Right now, small businesses across the country are spending about ,000 more more and 15 more hours submitting another application packet,” said Hunt. “We’re saying, just forgive all the loans under 0,000,” he said.Lindley believes automatic forgiveness would help people get back to work more quickly. “There’s only so many hours in a day, and I want to spend it working on my business not filling out forms,” she said.The Small Business Administration is requiring the most documentation for businesses who want full forgiveness. With the changes President Trump approved, businesses have 24 weeks instead of just eight weeks to use the funding—and only 60% of the loan needs to be used for payroll instead of the original 75%.“We can make that money last a little bit longer and be more thoughtful on how that’s doled out,” said Lindley.These changes are helping many, but Hunt said more needs to be done to lift time-consuming burdens off small businesses just getting back to work.“0,000 or less constitutes 85% of all loans, but only 20% of all the funding, so those larger businesses would still have to submit a forgiveness process, but not the mom and pop shops who are still in the red right now trying to make ends meet,” he said.For Lindley, she’s just hoping all the bookkeeping she’s done will be enough to keep her family’s story alive. 2548
