Federal investigators are looking into whether a huge wildfire near Los Angeles was sparked by Southern California Edison utility equipment. Edison says it has turned over a section of an overhead conductor from the utility’s facility near a dam in the area where the Bobcat Fire started Sept. 6. The initial report of fire was near Cogswell Dam at 12:21 p.m. Sept. 6. The utility says five minutes earlier, at 12:16 p.m., a circuit at the substation experienced a possible disturbance or event. Edison says cameras captured smoke developing in the area around 12:10 p.m., prior to the activity on Edison’s circuit.As of Thursday, there are still 26 ongoing wildfires in California being fought by 18,200 firefighters. In the last six weeks, fires have consumed 6,700 buildings and have killed 26 people. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Graffiti referencing the New Zealand mass shooting that left 50 people dead was discovered at the scene of a possible arson at an Escondido mosque early Sunday morning. According to police, the fire started around 3:30 a.m. at the Islamic Center of Escondido located near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Escondido Boulevard. Police believe members of the mosque were able to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived. Seven people were inside when the fire was reportedly set. No one was injured and minimal damage was done to the building, according to police. "Our message to community is to make sure they keep a watchful eye out,'' Escondido Police Lt. Chris Lick said. "If they see something suspicious, especially around a house of worship, they should call police.''According to police, graffiti left behind by the suspect made reference to the mass shooting in New Zealand, though details on the graffiti weren't available. Police tell 10News they are investigating the incident as attempted arson and a possible hate crime. No suspects have been identified at this time. Following the fire, members of the mosque scheduled an interfaith prayer vigil. The event will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Islamic Center of Escondido. "Once again, we will stand together in love and prayer as we show our unified support for the members of this local Mosque and for the Muslim community at large. Federal agents arrested two Mexican nationals and a Cleveland man after more than 140 pounds of methamphetamine was seized in Boston Heights — believed to be the largest seizure of meth in Ohio's history.Tyrone Rogers, 36, of Cleveland, Hector Manuel Ramos-Nevarez, 26, and Gilbert Treviso-Garcia, 24, both of Mexico, have been charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.Investigators seized 82 pounds of crystal meth and 60 pounds of liquid meth from a warehouse near the in Boston Heights, a city with a population of 1,300, located in suburban Cleveland."It's incredibly dangerous," said U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman. "Narcotics themselves are dangerous, but also keep in mind, those narcotics were there to be processed.Rogers picked up Nevarez and Treviso at La Quinta Inn in Macedonia, Ohio last month, according to authorities.According to the Department of Justice, Rogers drove the two men several times between a house in Aurora and a nearby warehouse.The warehouse where the drugs were seized appeared to be used as a processing facility to produce, package and distribute the drugs, according to the authorities.Investigators listened to several phone conversations about who had "broken into" the location. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Hundreds of teachers showed up Thursday night at the Escondido Union School board meeting, demanding better pay and benefits.The teachers are in the middle of a prolonged contract negotiation with the district.According to the superintendent, Luis Rankins-Ibarra, the district has offered a 3.37% retroactive raise for last year, when the teachers were working without a contract. Teachers have agreed to that, but are not satisfied with the 2.41% raise offered for the coming school year.“The surrounding districts have much better salary and benefits packages than ours,” said Romero Maratea, a middle school teacher and the president of the teacher’s union.The union is seeking a 2.7% cost of living adjustment (COLA) for next year. They are also asking for clarification on the district’s proposed 0.5% increase to their benefits, saying they do not know the underlying number it applies to.One of the teacher negotiators addressed the board on this topic.“Count the variables. So half a percent of an unknown quantity added to another undefined amount is what you are offering.”Another frustrated teacher commented, “are you trying to hide something? it sure seems like it.”A spokesperson for the district declined access to interview district officials.In a prepared statement from Superintendent Rankins-Ibarra, he wrote, “we are confident that we are close to a fair agreement.”He continued, “the district’s latest contract proposal is one that we can afford while still maintaining the minimum reserve requirement and remain fiscally sound three years out.
