SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting Sunday night and going until May 30, construction crews will close either northbound or southbound lanes of I-5 overnight to begin construction of the Mid-Coast Trolley.Drivers will see heavy equipment and machinery on the freeway, and residents can expect to hear loud construction noise during the closures.The project will start with a large support column for the trolley bridge in the freeway center divider.The trolley is being built to extend the Blue Line eleven miles north from the Old Town Transit Center to University City, running through Mission Bay Park, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego and Westfield University Town Center Mall.The Mid-Coast Trolley is expected to start running in fall 2021. 748

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University students were outraged with the football home opener tailgate at SDCCU Stadium Saturday.This comes after an email was sent last October by the university declaring new rules for tailgates. It reads "students and recognized student organizations with more than 25 people in attendance are required to register for tailgating.""People are bummed but I haven’t heard that many people upset about it," SDSU Freshman Caitlin said.The new form requires organizations to acknowledge kegs, glassware, and underage drinking is prohibited. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's shifting real-estate market could mean new opportunities for entry-level home buyers.A new study from realestate.com says the rate of appreciation for homes at the lower third of the price range are appreciating at 2.2 percent annually. That's a large drop off from the 10.4 percent price growth those homes saw from 2017 to 2018. “Those homes, priced in the bottom third of the market, have been appreciating the fastest and have seen the least inventory in recent years and price cuts are becoming more common as the balance between buyers and sellers is trending toward evening out," said Skylar Olsen, director of economic research for Zillow Group, which owns realestate.com "That’s not a huge surprise, as annual home-value appreciation has been well above historic norms for some time, and was due to slow back toward normal.”The typical entry level home in San Diego County is now worth 4,500. That's still a hefty price for San Diego renters who are paying an average of about ,000 a month and struggling to save for a down payment. Still, down payment assistance programs are available through the County and San Diego Housing Commission. Additionally, potential buyers can qualify for an F.H.A. loan with as little as 3.5 percent down. And Veterans can buy homes with nothing down through a V.A. loan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Zoo visitors are getting their first look at two endangered Amur leopard cubs born at the zoo in April.The unnamed cubs, born April 26, will have their first veterinary exam this week which will reveal the sex of the cubs."The cubs are climbing up on the rocks, they are getting into the trees, sometimes listening to mom and sometimes not," said Kelly Murphy, senior wildlife care specialist, San Diego Zoo. "Their personalities are still developing, and I’m looking forward to see what they become."The cubs' mother, Satka, has ventured out with the newborns daily and is already showing her kids how to stalk and climb, the zoo says. The animals are being raised in the park's Africa Rocks leopard habitat.Amur leopards are the rarest of the big cat species on Earth. There are fewer than 100 Amur leopards believed to exist in the habitats of Russia and China. The species has been decimated in the wild due to loss of habitat and poaching for their thick coats. 1003
