SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The holiday shopping season may be more than a month away. But for retailers, now is the time to hire new talent. Researchers estimate Americans will spend more than 0 billion in retail this year, which means they need to staff seasonal workers ahead of the shopping rush. Macy’s announced they are looking for 80,000 seasonal workers. The Gap Company will hire 65,000 people. Target plans to add 120,000 seasonal team members this year, up 20% from last year. In San Diego County alone, Target plans to add 1,200 people to their staff this season. “I’m going full time at SDSU, and I knew that I was definitely looking for some work,” Elizabeth Gonzalez said. 10News Gonzalez at the Mission Valley Target’s hiring fair Saturday morning. She is hoping to spend her winter break as a Target sales associate.“I just needed some extra cash just to pay the bills,” Gonzalez said. She said she needed the cash to continue paying for college, as she studies to become a Physician’s assistant. “I thought Target would be a great opportunity because I love shopping here,” Gonzalez said. Companies like Target are offering seasonal hiring incentives to those who already love their stores. Target’s include a 10% employee discount, 20% off healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, and an hour, which is above the state minimum wage. After a morning of paperwork and interviews, Gonzalez found out she got the job.With the popularity of online shopping warehouses and shipping centers are hiring seasonal workers as well. So are delivery and logistics companies. UPS will hire 100,000 full and part-time employees, while FedEx plans to hire 55,000 workers this season. 1732

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of shooting two people outside a Metallica concert in the Gaslamp, including an off-duty sheriff’s deputy was back in court Tuesday.In July Ray Pitoau had his first trial. He was found guilty of three firearm charges, including felon in possession of a gun.The jury deadlocked when charging him with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The District Attorney’s Office refiled for a retrial.RELATED: Gaslamp deputy shooting suspect escapes Spring Valley SWAT standoffA few months later that retrial is in session and Pitoau now faces potential life in prison for allegedly shooting sheriff’s deputy Jason Philpot three times, aiming the gun at his brother, Joshua Philpot and shooting and hitting a third person walking by.During his testimony Tuesday, Pitoau tells the jury he didn’t intent on actually firing the gun. "When I see the gun it was like okay you know what I mean, just show it to these guys. It be like okay split parts, I run this way they run that way. It be cool," Pitoau said.Pitoau was asked by the defense attorney and prosecutor to recollect the night of August 7, 2017. The night he got into an altercation with the Philpot brothers and it ended in shots fired.RELATED: Suspect in Gaslamp shooting that injured off-duty deputy arrested in MexicoWhen Pitoau grabbed the gun from his friend that night he tells the jurors he didn’t think Jason Philpot in law enforcement and would know how to remove a gun from a shooter.“I had it in my right hand his left hand cam over my hand and his right hand came under my hand,” Pitoau continued. “So he grabbed the whole thing like he close don it so he started twisting my wrist." Pitoau went over the entire night and even included details of fleeing the country after he saw the shooting on the news the next morning. “I took off to Mexico, well I cut my hair, shaved my beard and then I walked to the trolley station and went to Mexico."After a month in Tijuana he was brought back to the United States and immediately handed over to U.S. Marshals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city updated the Sherman Heights community and surrounding neighborhoods Wednesday evening, about the transitional homeless storage facility that's set to open.  The facility is scheduled to open at the corner of the Commerical and 20th Streets on June 13.  It's been a controversial project from the beginning. The storage facility will hold 500 units for homeless people to store their things while they look for work and get back on their feet.  RELATED:  514

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego is planning on expand its designated scooter parking zones to Ocean Beach. The Mayor’s staff recently sent a list and map of 106 prospective locations to the Ocean Beach planning board. The scooter corrals are similar to the on-street parking the city has already installed downtown. The ‘Micro Mobility Parking Corrals’ - as the city calls them - are installed at red curb spaces that do not block traffic, fire hydrants or impede visibility. The Mayor’s office says it is working with community groups to find suitable locations in OB and they plan to have feedback by June 10th. 630

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The leader of a San Diego motorcycle gang pleaded guilty Tuesday to participating in a scheme to seal dozens of Jeep Wranglers in San Diego County. Jimmy Josue Martinez, a leader of the Hooligans motorcycle gang, pleaded guilty Tuesday, admitting to participating in the scheme. According to court records, the gang is responsible for the theft of more than 150 of the vehicles since 2014, totaling about .5 million. Records show that the Hooligans used high-tech methods to disable security systems and steal the Jeeps before taking them to Tijuana to be sold or stripped for parts. RELATED: Three arrested, 6 sought in San Diego Jeep Wrangler theft ringAs part of the plea agreement, Martinez admitted to stealing the Jeeps in Pacific Beach, Serra Mesa, Chula Vista, Mission Valley, Ocean Beach, Hillcrest and North Park. Martinez and members of his crew would obtain the vehicle identification number in advance before getting secret key codes which allowed them to create a duplicate key for a particular Jeep. “The joy ride is over for Mr. Martinez,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “These thefts were audacious and sophisticated and created hassle and heartache for scores of Jeep owners. I congratulate prosecutors Andrew Galvin and Joseph S. Green, the FBI and members of the Regional Auto Theft Task Force for putting together a strong case against a gang that, unfortunately, has lived up to its name.”Along with Martinez, eight other members of the gang were charged in a grand jury indictment in 2017. Of the nine charged, six have pleaded guilty and three are fugitives. 1616
