SANAA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- In response to earlier reports that a Chinese-flagged commercial ship was hijacked by Somali pirates off Yemeni coast, the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center (MSA) said Sunday that the ship has never been hijacked, and is now sailing safely with escort of the Chinese anti-piracy navy fleet.Both the "Tien Hau" ship, which was registered in Hong Kong, China, and its 22-member crew, are safe, a MSA official confirmed to Xinhua over the phone. The center contacted the ship to make sure it was safe, he added.The ship had been followed by a suspicious boat for a while, but it was never attacked or hijacked, the official said.Earlier, Yemeni Interior Ministry had said the ship was hijacked by pirates some 20 kilometers off the Yemeni island of Al-Tair off the city port of al-Hudaida, and was heading to Somali coast.The Gulf of Aden is considered as one of the world's most dangerous waters because of rampant piracy.

CAPE TOWN, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The World Economic Forum on Africa, scheduled on May 2-4 in Cape Town, South Africa, will see participants exchange views on how the continent can turn to the next chapter of development.The meeting, expected to gather a record 900 participants from over 60 countries, will be held under the theme "From Vision to Action, Africa's Next Chapter," organizers said."We chose this theme because we feel it is very relevant for the events that are taking place on this continent, and the opportunity for growth and investment that the international and African communities are seeing," said Katherine Tweedie, head of Africa for the World Economic Forum.Seven of the fastest growing economies in the world in the next five years will be in sub-Saharan Africa, Tweedie noted, saying that a lot of discussion will be devoted to explore drivers behind this growth.Africa's economic growth in recent years have impressed the world. Though being the most underdeveloped continent, Africa have been more resilient than expected during the global economic crisis.The International Monetary Fund (IMF) have predicted that the continent's growth in 2011 will reach 5.3 percent.Under one of the three thematic pillars, "Shaping Africa's Role in the New Reality," the meeting will explore how Africa can take on a leadership role in the new reality and guard against newly emerging global and regional risks. Participants will look at how Africa can strengthen its representation and negotiation capacity on global platforms such as COP 17 and the G20.Meanwhile, the meeting will look into Africa's industrial diversification, which is widely considered as an effective way to increase competitiveness. Discussions under the thematic pillar of "Fostering Africa's News Champions of Growth" will focus on what innovative and entrepreneurial lessons drive Africa's fastest- growing companies, and how can Africa's emerging economies build capacity in science, technology and innovation to move up the value chain.Another topic expected to attract much attention is Africa's inclusive development. In recent years, African decision makers have been looking for ways to attain inclusive development by translating economic growth into better lives for the people.Marcus Courage, managing director of consulting group Africapractice, said ahead of the meeting that Africa must start measuring its economic growth in terms of job creation and progress of value addition of what it produces, rather than the gross domestic product (GDP), if it has to move from vision to action."One of the challenges is that we measure economic success in therms of GDP. MOSCOW, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Soyuz TMA-20 spacecraft with three crew members onboard has landed in Kazakhstan on Tuesday, said the Mission Control Center (MCC) outside Moscow.The spacecraft undocked from the International Space Station early Tuesday, carrying Russian cosmonaut Dmitry Kondratyev, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Paolo Nespoli and NASA astronaut Catherine Coleman back to Earth.According to the center, the Soyuz TMA-20 landed in the Kazakh steppe at 6:27 Moscow time (0227 GMT). Some 17 planes and helicopters and several rescue vehicles had conducted search works.Flight engineers Catherine "Cady" Coleman of the U.S. (L) and Italian Paolo Nespoli (R), and Russian cosmonaut and station commander Dmitry Kondratyev are seen after the Soyuz capsule landed, about 150 km (93 miles) southeast of the Kazakh town of Zhezkazgan May 24, 2011. XI'AN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 100 children were sickened by food poisoning Monday noon at a kindergarten in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.The accident occurred at Zhaocun Beibeile Kindergarten at Weiyang District of the provincial capital Xi'an City, where the children suffered from nausea and diarrhea after lunch, said a spokesman from the Weiyang District Government.The sickened children were rushed to five local hospitals for treatment, and their conditions were reported as not life threatening, the spokesman said.An initial inspection showed that their sickness was caused by nitrite intoxication, and the exact cause is under investigation.
