St. Louis Zoo officials are trying to solve the mystery of how a 62-year-old ball python laid seven eggs without being around a male python for at least two decades. An expert at the zoo says it’s unusual but not rare for ball pythons to reproduce asexually. Pythons also sometimes store sperm for delayed fertilization. (KGTV) -- Dozens of people gathered in front of a post office in Solan Beach Tuesday morning with signs in hand, pushing for the protection of the U.S. Postal Service.Tina Zucker, one of the organizers of the rally, said, “I just would like our country to have a postal service that works and to have a government with people who support it and don’t take it into our political realm.”As a succulent grower, Zucker has relied on the postal service for the last 15 years. She said there’s been a noticeable delay in delivery times.This comes as the U.S. Postal Service had announced the removal of hundreds of mail processing machines across the country and warned 46 states it may not be able to process all mail-in ballots in time to be counted for the election.“This has to get handled. You know, it’s America. This is the United States of America. We are bigger and better than the way things are going. And with the pandemic, we have to be able to vote with ballots. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who just gave birth to her second child, is attempting the rare move of changing longstanding Senate rules in order to accommodate senators with newborns.The Illinois Democrat has submitted a resolution this week that would allow senators to bring a child under one year old to the Senate floor during votes, which they currently cannot do."After many positive, constructive conversations with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle, Sen. Duckworth is glad to be able to offer this legislation to ensure no senator with an infant is prevented from performing their constitutional responsibilities -- and send a message that working parents everywhere deserve family-friendly workplace policies," said Kaitlin Fahey, Duckworth's chief of staff, in a statement provided to CNN on Monday. "She is optimistic that this will be resolved quickly."Duckworth gave birth to a baby girl on April 9 becoming the first US senator to do so while in office. The senator decided to take her maternity leave in Washington rather than in Illinois so as to be on hand and available to cast her vote, if needed.Leading up to giving birth, the senator openly expressed concerns how the Senate rules might impact her ability to do so while caring for her newborn."If I have to vote, and I'm breastfeeding my child, especially during my maternity leave period, what do I do? Leave her sitting outside?" Duckworth brought up in February during a Politico "Women Rule" podcast.There are a whole host of Senate rules that would make voting difficult for a senator while caring for her baby -- being unable to hand the baby off to a staffer, being unable to bring a child onto the floor and being unable to vote via proxy.Duckworth's resolution must first pass the Senate Rules Committee and then approved on the Senate floor to take effect. Some of San Diego's fastest growing companies will add more than 600 new jobs over the next five years.The hiring, however, is starting now. California awarded 15 San Diego companies tax credits in exchange for investing locally and adding jobs. Overall, the jobs will pay an average salary of about ,000.The state launched what's called the California Competes tax credit in 2013 to combat lower cost states, like Texas, from recruiting companies out of California."We need people, we need equipment, we need to improve our facilities, and that's really helping us do that," said Dave Twining, chief operating officer of Planck Aerosystems, which got a 0,000 credit. The company just expanded into a Midway warehouse large enough for a net for drone testing. In exchange for the credit, Planck is committing to add 23 jobs at an average salary of ,000. Twining said the company needs workers that run the gamut, from office administrators to engineers. Companies are also required to invest or expand in California. BOFI, for Bank of the Internet, got a million credit for its commitment to expand and add 160 jobs in San Diego over the next five years. The jobs will pay an average salary also ,000. But the credits are not just for finance and tech companies. Take Bold Brew Coffee, which recent SDSU grads Jack Doheny and Jake Solomon launched last year. The state is granting them a ,000 tax credit in exchange for expanding locally, and hiring seven workers at an average salary of ,000 a year. "It's Jack and I running the show, and that's why we desperately need some employees to help us out," Solomon said. Some voters in a North Florida county hit hard by Hurricane Michael submitted their ballots by fax and email -- a practice that runs afoul of guidance issued by Florida election officials in October.Bay County Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen told CNN that he and his staff had worked with 158 voters displaced by Michael to allow them to cast ballots by email and fax, despite the Florida Department of State saying that voting by fax or email "is not an option."Andersen said, "That was the only method available to voters that were displaced from the hurricane.""We would send them a ballot via email just like we would to the extent with our overseas voters. They would get it, they would vote it; 147 of them actually faxed it back to us after they voted it," he said.
