Now one Cheektowaga, New York girl is using the lemonade she makes to buy happiness for other children. Eight year-old Abby Jacques was devastated when she found out someone stole her brand new bike from her home on Cleveland Drive, so she decided to take action. She set up a lemonade stand to raise money for a new bike. Word about what happened to Abby spread on social media.After Erie County Comptroller, Stefan Mychajliw posted a photo on Facebook, the community pitched in to help Abby get a new set of wheels.Mychajliw and Howard Cadmus, owner of Sweet Jenny's in Williamsville, split the cost of a new bike.You can still find Abby outside of her home selling lemonade, but now to help others.All of Abby's future lemonade sales will be given to children in need of bikes and helmets at the Seneca Babcock Community Center.For those looking to support Abby, a PayPal account has been set up.  1007

TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) -- Mexican authorities said a Chula Vista woman and her friend were gunned down at a family gathering in Tijuana. Investigators said the suspect is a Tijuana firefighter who shot at the two during a jealous rage.The victim was identified as 32-year-old Roxana Diaz."She was always smiling, she was kind of crazy," said Diaz' cousin Ivett Corral. "A happy lady."Tijuana investigators said Diaz went to visit a family friend, 39-year-old Carlos Roberto Trujillo, in Tijuana Aug. 15. They and another female friend met with several Tijuana firefighters at a get-together.Early the next morning, the three friends headed to Trujillo's home at Colonia Union. Police said the three firefighters ambushed the group, shooting at Trujillo and Diaz, and kidnapping the other woman.Trujillo died just outside his home. Diaz underwent surgery at Tijuana General Hospital but died Aug. 20 after she was transferred to UCSD Medical Center. "I start crying a lot because she was like a sister to me," Corral said. "She was more than a cousin. We grew up together."Police said after the firefighters kidnapped the woman, she screamed for help at a toll plaza on the way to Ensenada. Officers were alerted and arrested the firefighters.Mexican investigators said the alleged shooter, identified only as 27-year-old Ricardo N., is the boyfriend of the woman he and his co-workers kidnapped. They said he was jealous that she was socializing with her ex-boyfriend Trujillo and Diaz.Corral said Diaz was a long-time employee at Kentucky Fried Chicken on 3rd Street in Chula Vista. She worked hard to provide for her 16-year-old son.Trujillo's family said he worked at the Tijuana Town Hall. He leaves behind three children."We just want justice," Corral said. Trujillo's family told 10News the suspects are being held in Ensenada on suspicion of kidnapping but have not been charged with the murders of Trujillo and Diaz. "I try to make sure I get a workout in, although there have been periods throughout this quarantine, where I just have felt too low."Obama’s podcast launched at the end of July, her episode on Wednesday was about “Protests and the Pandemic.” She told her guest she has not always felt like getting on the treadmill or waking up at a regular time each morning.“You know, it's a direct result of just being out of, out of body, out of mind. And spiritually, these are not, they are not fulfilling times, spiritually. You know, so I, I know that I am dealing with some form of low-grade depression. Top health officials are considering “pooled testing” as a way to ramp up COVID-19 tests.Here's how it works:Instead of testing each sample individually, labs pool together a certain amount, like 10, in one tube with one test.If it's negative, you double check it, and then you're done.If there's a positive, you break it down either into smaller pools or individually for further testing.“So, there are advantages, mostly cost savings, that's the huge advantage of pooling, also the ability to go through a very large volume of specimens,” said Dr. Thomas Quinn, an infectious disease researcher at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious DiseasesQuinn worked in one of many labs that used the pooling technique during the HIV epidemic in the 1980s. He says the difference between then and now is the tests themselves.Pooling dilutes the samples. The HIV tests were very accurate, so that wasn't an issue, but with COVID-19, the tests aren't as reliable.The other problem is pooling takes more time in the lab, even with robotic equipment helping.“We need to get everyone tested and everyone wants to know what's the result of my test within 24 hours. That's very hard to do with pooling,” said Quinn.Quinn isn't recommending pooling for individual testing right now. He says it could be more useful in big surveys, when it's not an emergency. 1357

Three inmates in a suburban Atlanta jail are being credited with saving a deputy's life.The Gwinett County Sheriff's Office says the trio noticed the officer was not feeling well as he conducted security procedures.After he returned to his seat, the deputy lost consciousness. He then fell to the floor and hit his head.The inmates began pounding on the doors loudly enough to wake up the deputy, who then opened the cell doors.After that, he lost consciousness again. But the inmates stayed by his side and administered aid until help arrived.The deputy is now recovering at home."These inmates came to his aid because our deputy, like most law enforcement officers, treats people with the dignity they deserve," the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. "These inmates had no obligation whatsoever to render aid to a bleeding, vulnerable deputy, but they didn't hesitate. Many people have strong opinions about law enforcement officers and criminals, but this incident clearly illustrates the potential goodness found in both.""We're proud of our deputy, whose strong desire to serve gave him the strength to activate the door release when he believed an inmate needed his help.
