VOLKMARSEN, Germany (AP) — Police in Germany say several people have been injured after a car drove into a crowd at a Carnival procession. Northern Hesse police said a large number of police are at the scene in Volkmarsen, about 175 miles southwest of Berlin, and the driver was arrested. Police said they couldn't immediately provide further details and urged people not to spread “unconfirmed reports" about the incident, which happened early Monday afternoon. Police say they have not received any reports of any deaths, and don't have a specific number of injuries yet. They say it is too early to say what caused the car to crash into the crowd. 662

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration says it will block Chinese airlines from flying to the U.S. later this month. The Transportation Department says it will suspend passenger flights by four Chinese airlines to and from the U.S. beginning June 16 — sooner if President Donald Trump decides to do so. It's the latest escalation of trade and travel tensions between the two countries. China so far hasn't allowed U.S. airlines United and Delta to resume flights to China, which they wanted to restart this week. Those flights were suspended earlier this year because of the coronavirus outbreak that started in China. The Transportation Department says China is violating an air-travel agreement between the two countries.“The Department will continue to engage our Chinese counterparts so both U.S. and Chinese carriers can fully exercise their bilateral rights,” said the agency in a statement 913

What does our future hold in terms of how our information is collected? How can we know our information is safe? It's a question people at SRI International are trying to answer. SRI is a research non-profit located in Silicon Valley that's helping to develop technology that become staples of everyday life, like the computer mouse and the technology behind Siri.“I really enjoy being part of the future, trying to imagine what the future is and live in that future as much as possible," says SRI's Patrick Lincoln.Lincoln is the Director of the Computer Science Laboratory at SRI. He and his team work to understand security and privacy aspects of the "internet of things.""The internet of things is growing world where everything is a computer,” Lincoln explains. “Where your refrigerator and your car [are] a computer.”Lincoln says with that growing world he believes there is more recognition that computer security matters and private information should stay private. "There are, unfortunately, threats to that based on the vulnerabilities out there in the world and your devices and as well as the internet,” he says.He says giving the guarantee of security in today's world is hard, but he's optimistic progress can be made towards that goal. “The good news is there’s brilliant people engaged in this topic, trying to understand the concerns and identify ways to move forward and provide security and privacy for people’s data out there in the internet,” Lincoln says. “There is a great deal of progress being reported in academic conferences in how we encrypt data and yet protect the privacy of the data that’s used.” 1639

WASHINGTON (AP) — Basketball Hall of Famer Wes Unseld has died at age 74. Unseld is one of two players in NBA history to win Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in the same season. He died Tuesday after a series of health issues, most recently pneumonia, according to a statement from his family released by the Washington Wizards. Unseld was a powerful 6-foot-7, 245-pound center who dominated as a rebounder and led Washington’s team — then known as the Bullets — to the 1978 NBA championship, earning Finals MVP honors. He was a five-time All-Star who played all 13 of his NBA seasons with the franchise that drafted him in 1968. 642
