SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In-person voting kicked off in San Diego County on Saturday, welcoming voters to the polls early through Election Day.The polling locations will be open through Monday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and reopen on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are 235 super poll locations in San Diego County for in-person voting.Margie Singley is one resident who chose to vote in person on the first day. She said it was fast and easy.“I thought maybe it might be crowded so if it was busy today I might come tomorrow or Monday to avoid the crowds,” said Singley.She said that she felt an added level of security by voting in person and did not have any concerns about coronavirus because necessary steps were taken inside the polling place. “Not at all, so no fear. Come on in!” she said.Liza and Joe Kennedy turned in their filled-out ballots to a drop off location on the same day. They said it was their first time filling out their ballots from home, and they appreciated being able to take their time in the comfort of their own home.“It’s a safety reason too, you’re not sharing pens, you’re not in the same little fold up booth. You can do it in the security of your own home,” the couple said.Mary Criscenti and Allyson Brenner are the poll workers who collected the Kennedy’s ballots. The duo cheered on voters as they dropped off their ballots, saying everyone who stopped by had high energy all morning.“Everyone is happy. Everyone is filled with hope,” they said.All mailed ballots have to be postmarked by Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls close for in-person voting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.As of Sunday, more than 28,100 voters had already cast their votes in early voting at polling locations. Another 10,091 voters had already voted at the Registrar of Voters since Oct. 5.As of Friday evening, more than one million of the registered 1.9 million San Diego County voters had already cast their ballots. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It appears traffic along parts of Normal Street in Hillcrest will disappear for good, giving way to the Normal Street Promenade.City Councilmember Chris Ward says the city has signed on for the project as part of the Uptown Bikeways Project with SANDAG.The east side traffic lanes would stay but the lanes on the west side will be replaced by dedicated bike lanes and a pedestrian walkway along a two-block stretch from the Hillcrest Pride Flag to Lincoln Avenue."I'm excited.  Hillcrest is a close-knit community, and this will make it even more social," said Hillcrest resident Madison Layo."A great gathering space for everyone that people can rally around ... show a little pride," said Alex Craig, another Hillcrest resident.Ward says the public space can host events like the weekly farmer's market and Pride gatherings, along with events such as street fairs, movies and concerts.  The proposal also includes 70 extra parking spaces from Lincoln Avenue to Washington Street.  Supporters believe the project could also attract business activity to the area.The Uptown Community Parking District has allocated .8 million for the project.  Community outreach for the project will begin in early 2019 with construction expected to start in 2020. 1307

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It looks like a mini farmer's market: fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, even flowers.All of it coming from home gardens like Rosemary McElroy's. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds showed up for a prayer vigil Wednesday night, organized by the Broadway Heights Community Council. The Prayer Vigil for Love, Peace and Justice was outdoors on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. A dozen faith leaders participated, each taking a moment to speak to the crowd and then share prayer with the crowd. Organizers say they put this together in response to the racial injustice around the country, mentioning the death of George Floyd and the arrest of Amaurie Johnson at the trolley station in La Mesa. The vigil was peaceful and organizers say that was the goal. Families that attended the event and faith leaders say they are hopeful that coming together will lead to meaningful change and healing. 740
