NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)on Monday kicked off its trading session with a special ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.     In a symbolic move, Stephen A. Orlins, president of the U.S. National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR), rang the market's Opening Bell. He was accompanied by Dr. Henry Kissinger, a key trailblazer and eyewitness for the normalization of U.S.- China relations.     The two countries formally established their diplomatic ties on Jan. 1, 1979.     Zhang Yesui, China's UN permanent representative, said the bilateral relations of China and United States is of great importance, not only to the two peoples, but also to the world peace and security, and the global economic development.     Dr. Kissinger, who visited China in 1971, said he is optimistic about the future of the bilateral relations of China and United States. "It is now a pillar of the international order. And peace and prosperity of the world depend closely on the Sino-U.S. relations," he said.     Talking on areas of further co-operation between the two countries, Dr. Kissinger said first of all China and United States should develop a common solution on how to overcome the current international financial and economic crisis, and develop a program of collaboration to tackle the issue.     And "on the key problems that exist in the world -- proliferation, energy, climate change, environment -- China and United States can be a key to a solution of these problems," he said, "So the strategic dialogues between China and United States should not only continue, but be reinforced and strengthened."     NCUSCR President Orlins called the NYSE celebrating ceremony "a real testimony, not only to the historical events, but also to how far we have come."     "When we established diplomatic relations exactly 30 years ago on January 1st, we could not have imagined that we would have Chinese companies listed on the NYSE, whose market capital is in excess of 800 billion U.S. dollars," Orlins said, "It is just remarkable."     Currently, there are 41 companies from Chinese mainland listed with NYSE, the premier U.S. listing venue for non-U.S. companies.     Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO of NYSE Euronext, told Xinhua that he has taken the relations with China as one of his most important initiatives during his years as chief executive. He also suggestedthe Chinese companies to "stay the course" and stick to the good business when dealing with the global financial crisis and economic downturn.     "There is always years like this in global markets where it is a very very tough ride. I think there are a lot of terrific companies in China. They either already listed or are in the queueto be listed, and we're gonna continue to support them through the ups and downs," Niederauer said, "I believe their fortunes will improve overtime and we just need a long-term outlook of it."     NYSE was the first foreign exchange to receive approval to open a representative office in China. After the opening of its Beijing office on Dec. 11, 2007, NYSE has signed memorandums of understanding with China's Dalian Commodity Exchange and Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange in co-operations in the futures and options markets.     Among the guests to the Monday ceremony were Peng Keyu, Chinese consul-general in New York, and Jan Berris, vice president of the NCUSCR. 

CHENGDU, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao extended Lunar New Year greetings on behalf of the government and joined holiday festivities in quake-hit Sichuan Province in southwest China over the weekend.     Wen visited villagers, students, medical workers and police in Beichuan, Deyang and Wenchuan, which were among the worst-hit areas in the 8.0-magnitude quake that struck on May 12.     It was Wen's seventh visit to the province since the quake, which was centered in Wenchuan County. The earthquake left more than 69,000 people dead, 374,000 injured, 18,000 missing and millions homeless.     Wen started with a visit to Wang Chengyi's home on Saturday afternoon. Wang, a middle-aged villager of Qiang nationality, lives in a newly-built Qiang village in Beichuan County. More than 1,000 of the school's 2,900 students and teachers died in the earthquake.     On Sunday morning, Wen visited new homes in Deyang City's Xinyu Village. He watched a lion dance and played table tennis with villagers.     Wen also visited medical workers at the Deyang City People's Hospital and extended televised greetings to police and firefighters in Sichuan.     At Dongfang Steam Turbine Works, a large state-owned enterprise, he urged employees to have confidence in Dongfang's development in spite of the quake destruction and global financial crisis.     Wen then visited Yingxiu Town in Wenchuan County, the epicenter of the quake. In a community of makeshift houses, Wen went into a kitchen shared by the Wu's and two other families and joined them in preparing dinner for the Spring Festival's Eve. He even cooked a dish of Hui Guo Rou (Sauteed sliced pork with pepper) for them. BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's senior political advisors convened here on Wednesday to discuss the new Party decision on rural reform and advice on the issue.     During the four-day third meeting of the Standing Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, political advisors were expected to carefully review the decision made at the third Plenary Session of the 17th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee that closed on Sunday, said Jia Qinglin, the CPPCC National Committee chairman who presided over the meeting.     The CPPCC had made great efforts to study the issues of agriculture, rural development and improving farmers' life, he said. "We hope political advisors can present their findings, put forward proposals and contribute to the rural reform and development." "We should be clear about the serious challenges and difficulties from home and abroad but also realize the great opportunities and favorable conditions in it."     He listed several works the country would do, such as to seriously implement macroeconomic policy, to boost economic restructuring, to greatly enhance capacities for independent innovations, to control pollution and protect the environment and to deepen the reform and opening-up.     Hu also stressed that to maintain social stability was very important when the economic development faced some problems.     During his visit here, the president paid visits to three large state-owned enterprises.     At a new assembly line of Angang Steel Co. Ltd., the first steel producer founded by the People's Republic of China, Hu inquired about its business perspective.     "As a leading company in our steel industry, we hope you to take the advantage of your technology and scale to contribute to the country's economic growth," he said.     Hu expected these state-owned enterprises to focus more on research and development so that they could develop more core technologies, maintain a technical advantage and catch up with the world leading level.     Export-oriented enterprises were widely affected by the global financial crisis.     The president was concerned about their conditions and visited two companies during his stay here.     Visiting a joint venture clothing manufacturer in Yingkou city of Liaoning, he learned that the number of overseas orders it received for next year dropped month after month.     "I hope you to be more confident in face of difficulties," he said. "While maintaining the traditional markets (Europe and U.S.A.), you may try to explore new markets."     At Shenyang Yuanda Aluminium Industry Engineering Co. Ltd, Hu was glad to learn that the company's revenue reported a year-on-year rise of 72 percent in the first ten months this year and the value of overseas orders increased by 1.5 times.     "This was very rare and commendable in a shrinking international market," he said. The central government has decided to invest more in public service," Hu said.     He promised that more people like Wan would move into new homes and retired workers would have higher pension.
