VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Prosecutors presented evidence Thursday against a man suspected of killing his girlfriend in Cardiff in an effort to send the case to trial. Late in the day, a judge decided there was enough evidence for the case to move forward.Henry Cowen is charged with murder in the death of 43-year-old Sabrina Lukosky. During his preliminary hearing in Vista court, attorneys heard from multiple witnesses, including a DNA expert who tied Cowen to the crime scene. Lukosky’s mother requested a welfare check in October 2019 after not hearing from her daughter for several days. "There was a broken stick, a bottle that had been broken, some amount of blood, and the victim had a 1.5-inch vertical gash to her forehead," said Deputy District Attorney Marnie Layon. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office later determined Lukosky died of blunt force trauma and strangulation. Prosecutors believe Cowen left San Diego County and traveled to Los Angeles, then took a Lyft to Riverside County. WASHINGTON (AP) — A military whistleblower says federal officials sought some unusual crowd control devices — including one that’s been called a “heat ray” — to deal with protesters outside the White House on the June day that law enforcement forcibly cleared Lafayette Square. National Guard Maj. Adam DeMarco says the Defense Department’s lead military police officer for the National Capital Region sent an email asking if the D.C. National Guard possessed a long-range acoustic device — used to transmit loud noises — or an “Active Denial System," the so-called heat ray. VISTA (CNS) - A professional photographer who sexually assaulted four teenage girls during modeling sessions at a rented Carlsbad residence where he had set up a temporary studio was sentenced to 25 years in state prison Friday.Robert Koester, 52, pleaded guilty last month to 23 felonies related to raping and inappropriately touching the teens -- some of whom were drugged and unconscious during the abuse -- as well as creating child pornography of the girls.Koester also faces federal charges locally, as well as charges in his home state of Oregon, where he's accused of assaulting additional victims.RELATED: Modeling photographer pleads guilty to sex crimes against teenagersDeputy District Attorney Dan Owens said the investigations against Koester began with one of his local victims, identified in court only as Jane Doe 1, who came forward regarding the abuse and "put a stop" to his ongoing crimes. (KGTV) -- Deputies are searching for a suspect they say stabbed someone in Vista early Sunday morning before fleeing the scene.According to deputies, the stabbing happened just after midnight on Flower Lane, a street located inside a condominium complex about half a mile north of State Route 78.The suspect was identified as Christena Potter and remained at large as of Sunday afternoon. The victim was survived and was taken to the hospital, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.Deputies didn’t specify whether or not Potter had a relationship with the victim. Deputies warned nearby law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect. 688
