The movie highlights the bi-cultural relationship between San Diego and Mexico. Ruta Madre first premiered in 2017 and has since made its way around the film festival circuit winning various awards. Now, the movie is getting some major attention and even making its way to theatres around San Diego. Although Ruta Madre has had a successful turn around the film festival circuit, the theatrical release comes at a critical time in the political relationship between the U.S. and Mexico. It also confronts the issue many Latinos in America face: self- and social-identity."It reflects the feeling of many Latinos, especially Mexicans, who have emigrated or were born here, but who have not they feel neither from here nor from there,” director and screenwriter Agustín Casta?eda said in a 2016 interview.The film, called Ruta Madre, follows Daniel, a young American singer who leaves his home in Chula Vista to embark on a spiritual road trip after his first love Daisy breaks his heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died Saturday night after being shot during a fight in Lincoln Park, San Diego Police say.According to police, two men were involved in a fight on the 300 block of Euclid Avenue around 9 p.m.During the fight, police say one of the men produced a handgun when both men were shot.Officers were called to the scene after receiving reports of gunshots heard in the area. When they arrived, officers found both men with apparent gunshot wounds.One of the men was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the other was pronounced dead at the scene.Both men are from National City and have been identified, but police are not releasing their names at this time.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man who recently returned from Iran is under self-quarantine at his parents' home in Rancho Bernardo. The traveler, who declined to give his name, lives in San Francisco. He said it would be easy to expose other family members at his home, but his parents have a detached unit where he can isolate himself. He said he contacted his healthcare provider for guidance before returning to the United States, but was directed to the CDC website. "The onus shouldn't be on me. There should be some kind of response, from the government or some kind of authority. I just feel they should be a lot more proactive. I feel it's going to hit us like a tsunami, " said the man. He was in Iran, where at least 200 people have died from COVID19, for the last few months taking care of his family business. He's been out of the country for eight days. He says he isn't showing any symptoms, but he still wants to be tested. "Per CDC guidelines, they said if you're not showing symptoms, you don't need, and the word was "need," you don't need a test, you should just self-quarantine until the 14 day period has passed. Need is one thing, I said I want to test, I said wouldn't you want to test, if you're a carrier you want to know." It's up to an individual's doctor or healthcare professional to recommend someone for testing, but the CDC has the final say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local businessman is now accused in a child porn case, several years after he managed to get off the sex offender registry.Along Tokalon Street in Bay Park, there is a sense of disbelief. A neighbor of some 7 years - Joseph Welsh - arrested in Fontana over the weekend.Police say parents confronted him and took his phone after he took photos of girls in bathing suits at a birthday party.Search warrants executed at his home and his business - a Segway rental outlet on Mission Boulevard - netted several electronic devices containing child porn, according to investigators.The neighbors' sense of shock was magnified because of what they didn't know about his past: a conviction in the 1990s in San Bernardino county for possessing child porn, and annoyance of a child.Police say in 2014, the courts deemed him not a danger to the public and removed him from the registry.It's a maneuver many can't understand.An acquaintance of Welsh, 47, told 10News those who worked near him became "creeped out" because he was always photographing surf schools and flying drones on the beach.In one instance, concerns led to an acquaintance to warn a teenager who knew Welsh to stay away from him.To search the California Megan's Law website for registry results, click here. 1308

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hazardous Materials Team is investigating a Rancho Bernardo residence following reports of a possible fentanyl overdose death at the home Thursday morning.Crews responded at around 4 a.m. to calls of an overdose at a residence at 11300 Calenda Road located a few blocks from Westwood Elementary School.First responders discovered an unconscious 27-year-old male. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials. Neighbors told 10News the man lived at the home with his parents.While at the scene, our 10News crew saw a woman being escorted out of the house and placed in an ambulance. It’s still unclear how she’s involved.The San Diego County Medical Examiner will identify the man and confirm his cause of death. 800
