SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A family killed in a Logan Heights house fire in October was laid to rest Friday.Jose Antonio Romero Mayo, 44, Nicolasa Mayo-Cortes, 46, and daughter Iris, 21, all died from their injuries following the Oct. 13 fire.Funeral services were held at Saint Anthony of Padua in National City Friday morning.RELATED: Family's oldest son charged in Logan Heights house fire deathsTwo other surviving family members, Wendy and Angel, were out of the hospital and in attendance.After the church service, a funeral procession drove by the house the family once called home. Loved ones shared a moment in front of a memorial placed outside of the charred, boarded-up house on Clay Avenue.Friends of Mayo-Cortes described her as a hardworking mother who went through many hardships but was always resilient. He was charged with counts of murder and arson and is expected in court Monday. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for December. 1246

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A San Diego man walked up to a horrifying sight:  his wife bloodied and unconscious in Balboa Park.Donna Gookin and her husband Ed were part of a group participating in orienteering last Wednesday in the early evening.  Orienteering is hiking sport that combines a compass, a map and locating markers.  The two were on separate parts of the trail. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and ABC) - Fishermen had a close encounter with killer whales off the San Diego coast that was caught on camera. The group was on a 21-foot boat looking for yellowtail when they came across the orcas. "Out of nowhere, one of them popped up right next to the boat 3 or 4 feet away from me…landed, splashed me, and splashed the whole side of the boat. I screamed,” witness Nathan Benge told Good Morning America. One of the killer whales had a playful interaction, performing a belly roll beneath the surface of the boat’s wake, GMA reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of San Diego Star Wars cosplayers are committed to charity work, not galactic control.Dressed as the "bad guys" of the Star Wars universe, the Imperial Sands Garrison can be found visiting children in the hospitals or supporting fundraisers. The group tries to attend more than 150 events a year."There's nothing better than going up and getting a high-five from the kids," says local commading officer Todd Mullen.Though over 100 strong, the Imperial Sands Garrison is only part of a much larger network. The 501st Legion spans worldwide with over 13,000 members. It has united Star Wars fans since 1997. 640

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday after being shot in Chollas View. According to police, the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at an apartment complex near the 47th Street Trolley Station. 10News spoke to the victim's mother. She said her eldest son, Ricardo Dominguez was shot in the right hip. The bullet went through the main artery but missed his organs. She said Ricardo is now sedated at the ICU -- in serious but stable condition.Witnesses told police two cars were seen speeding from the area, but no word on whether or not the vehicles were involved in the shooting.Ricardo Dominguez's mother has set up a fundraiser page.
