Officers encountered 31-year-old Trayford Pellerin of Lafayette in the parking lot of the convenience store on NE Evangeline Thruway. As officers tried to apprehend Pellerin, troopers say he fled the scene and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers deployed Tasers as they pursued Pellerin, but they were ineffective.Pellerin, who was still armed with a knife, attempted to enter an occupied convenience store along the NW Evangeline Thruway. Officers discharged their weapons and Pellerin was struck by gunfire.Pellerin was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured.The officers have been placed on administrative leave, according to the spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department.The investigation is active and ongoing. (KGTV) - A dog owner has a warning for other pet owners after her 5-year-old English Bulldog died during a dental cleaning at a Vista pet hospital."I just thought it was a routine visit," said Kristine Ortiz.Ortiz's nightmare began two Tuesdays ago at Banfield Pet Hospital in Vista, after she brought Chesty in for a dental cleaning. Chesty is her emotional support dog. Ortiz, a medically retired Marine, lives with a rare and debilitating bone disease. Ortiz got the call just before 3 in the afternoon."Just in shock. I remember screaming ... I've had surgery six times since I got my dog, and she's been with me the whole time, so it was very emotional," said Ortiz. Chesty, a healthy dog, had been put under during two previous cleanings and never had any issues. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District union workers say they are worried their jobs are on the line and say the district could be looking at bankruptcy.Union workers rallied Thursday ahead of a district board meeting over a million budget shortfall. Union President Bill Faust represents 1,400 support staffers at Vista Unified, including custodians, secretaries and food service workers who are concerned for their jobs since those are historically among the first to be cut. Faust says the board approved almost million to add unnecessary 8th periods to two high schools and another 1,000 to fire the district's superintendent two weeks ago. He says the board is spending money it doesn't have."We are concerned. With this board mismanaging funding," Faust said.
