(KGTV) - The library at Willow Elementary School is officially be renamed the "Ramon Parra Library" on Friday, in honor a man who dedicated his life to the children of San Ysidro."Anything that needed to be done, he did it," remembers Emilio Noriega, Jr., who played baseball with Parra's son. "He didn't look for any help, he did it himself."Parra is credited with founding the San Ysidro Little League. He also served on the local school board for 18 years. Friends say he served on countless other committees and community boards, all working to make San Ysidro a better place."He was the kind of person that did everything for everybody and didn't ask for nothing," says Jaime Mercado. "He was one of the most honest people you ever ran across."Parra passed 30 years ago. The effort to honor him began in 2017. Mercado and a few other people from the Friends of San Ysidro group started a petition to rename the whole school after Parra. When that failed, they set their sights on the library.A GoFundMe campaign raised ,100 to pay for new lettering. The San Ysidro School Board chipped in another ,000. In addition to the name on the outside of the library, a picture of Parra and an explanation of what he meant to the community will be on display inside."There are so many people in town who never heard of him," says Noriega. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Coast Guard is investigating what caused a ferry boat to crash twice into docks at San Francisco's famed Ferry Building, slightly injuring two people aboard.Coast Guard spokesman Chris Shih says investigators are looking into mechanical issues and other factors that led to Friday's crash. The agency regularly inspects the ferries.A Golden Gate Ferry spokeswoman says the boat was traveling from Larkspur and carrying 53 passengers when it struck an outer berth before bumping into another dock.The vessel's hull was damaged when it struck the concrete promenade and knocked a guardrail. The Coast Guard says there were reports of two minor injuries that didn't require treatment beyond first aid.Witness Tiffany Dennis says the crash set off panic among a crowd of people dining and shopping at the waterfront attraction. 856

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco's iconic Cliff House restaurant that for more than a century has served tourists and locals from atop a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean is closing its doors at the end of the year.Restaurant proprietors Dan and Mary Hountalas say in a post on the restaurant's website they are closing Dec. 31 because of losses brought on by the pandemic and not being able to renew a long-term operating contract with the National Park Service.They have been the restaurant's proprietors since 1973.The couple says 180 employees will lose their jobs. 581

Sears is getting serious about selling Kenmore.The struggling retailer announced Monday that it had formed a "special committee" to explore the sale of its in-house appliance brand.The move comes less than a month after Sears CEO Eddie Lampert wrote a letter to the board urging it to sell the brand. He offered to buy it himself if necessary, along with other assets.There is a good chance that Lampert will be the one buying Kenmore.Through his hedge fund, ESL Investments, Lampert owns a majority of shares in Sears Holding, the company that owns the Sears and Kmart chains.Sears has been exploring a possible sale of Kenmore and other assets for a number of years but never found a buyer. But this week it escalated its efforts by forming the "special committee," retaining counsel and bringing on an investment bank.The announcement was enough to briefly lift Sears shares 19% in early trading Monday, before they retreated to more modest gains of about 6%.Shares are still near historic lows. The retailer has admitted "substantial doubts" exist that it will be able to remain in business.Lampert has insisted that the company is on a path to return to profitability. But it is in need of cash and has been closing stores, cutting costs and getting creditors to agree to a longer repayment schedule on its debt. Because of that delayed repayment schedule, Sears was judged to be in default of some of its loans earlier this year.In early 2017 Sears sold its Craftsman tool brand to Stanley Black & Decker in a deal valued at 0 million. (KGTV) — Deputies are searching for a man who attempted to lure a child into his vehicle this week.A driver pulled alongside a nine-year-old girl riding her bike in the 8000 block of Poplin Dr. in Santee at about 6 p.m. Thursday and asked her if she would like a ride to a "game," San Diego Sheriff's Department says.The girl became scared and rode her bicycle back to her house. She was not injured, according to deputies. The suspect was described as a Caucasian male, about 60- to 70-years-old, with white hair, and wearing a red hat and chrome sunglasses. His vehicle was described as a 2-door, silver convertible with a black top, possibly a Honda.
